So this has been going on for about 2 weeks now and isn't really affecting anything, but am I the only one whose gas cap not closing all the way? Don't know if I opened it too hard with my gigantic muscles at one point (joking) or what's going on. I don't really care but I'm tired of people mentioning it to me! I guess I'll get some magnetic tape, bc I have no idea..

Never saw a thread on this before and had no luck with the search. See pic and be glad it's not you I guess!

I'm sure you've already checked this but just in case...

I've noticed that if the gas cap holding thing, the plastic string stuff whatever the hell it's called, get twisted or stuck in the wrong spot, it'll prevent the door from closing smoothly.

I did check the string/tether that attaches to the cap (should've mentioned that in my post), but to no avail. I am a bit surprised I'm stumped by this (Not enough to take my whole truck apart and figure out how/why the hell it's doing this though). Just wondering if I was alone out here, or if there's a crazy easy fix that I'm too dumb to have figured out yet.

I'm sure there's some annoying spring or something thats tucked way up in there behind the hinge that's causing it then.

magnetic tape or some other type of magnets would probably be a decent/easy fix.

I had this happen. The tension spring was broken. Was repaired under warranty at 34,XXX miles by replacing the door complete.

I expect it will happen again, dammit.

Yours has a spring?. I thought the crown of the road giving me a right hand lean allowed gravity to keep mine closed.:monocle:

Mine flaps open sometimes. I replaced the spring, hoping for better luck, but unfortunately it didn't help. It's not as loose as yours, but it will blow open going through the car wash and such. It doesn't really "snap" closed. Drives me nuts.

The plastic leash got spun on mine a while back and caused this. Thankful it wasn’t the spring, but the springs do appear to be a common problem. Probably wouldn’t hurt to have a spare on standby.

Wish Toyota would have put the locking gas door on the truck with a button to pop it open from inside the cab
