I am undecided if I want to (and its worth the wait) to go with a TRD Pro or spec a different grade with the TRD Lift kit. I have noticed that some of the trim on grades like the limited are chrome. If I spec an SR5 with packages I want and put a TRD Pro suspesion on it I can get the front with painted surfaces instead of the chrome surrounding the grill.

Is the dealer installed TRD Pro lift more lift than the one that comes on the TRD Pro?

Also, I know this is controversial as many people don't like the fake engine sound but I like it. Is that on a model like the SR5 without the hybrid engine? Or is that only a TRD Pro thing?

I'd 100% get a different trim and go with the TRD lift kit. TRD Pro you are paying a ton of money for badges, not capability. Yes the TRD lift is more than the TRD Pro as far as ride height is concerned.

Welcome to the forum from OKC! I'd be researching the main crank bearing and rear main seal failures.

I got the TRD Pro. I had no plans to do any major mods to the truck - wheels/suspension/etc, so it was nice to have it all from the factory, and covered by the factory warranty.

Still planning on tires and bumper, maybe other small stuff.

What this guy said. Take a look at all of the engine failures on the 3rd Gen. You should just buy whatever truck he has. :)

Now, back to the question you asked: I would ask what your intention is with the TRD Pro if you got one? Would you still want to put a 3" lift and 35" tires on it? If you feel like that is a possibility, then I would highly recommend saving the dollars to get a lower trim and spending the money on upgrades. If you think you'd be satisfied with it as it comes, then wait for the TRD Pro. The Pro will also retain more of it's value long term since it's the "enthusiast" trim.

I really wanted a Pro, but I also know myself. I have the "project bug" and I always have to make vehicles my own. I knew I would eventually put on a 3" lift, armor, and a bunch of other things. So I opted to save the money and go a different route.

For the fake engine noise, it's only on models with the JBL system on the Limited trim & up. Someone else might be able to 100% confirm, but I don't think you can spec an SR5 with the JBL system. You can get the 14" screen on the SR5, but I think you have to step up to the Limited trim to get the JBL system with the engine noise.

If you like the Trd Pro model wait. Just add up all the parts that’s on it. It’s over 15k and if you turn the sr5 into one it’s still a sr5. The Trd lift is just a lift and not performance shock like the Trd pro shock.

I can't fault that thinking for sure, which is another reason I am strongly considering the Pro.

However right now on the configurator I can't seem to option the TRD Pro Lift. It used to be there.

No wrong answer here I don’t think and much more reasonable to buy a Pro now that they can be had at MSRP.

I revelry went through this dilemma and elected for a limited hybrid with off-road package. Am adding the pro flares and rear spoiler, upgrading suspension, and doing a front bumper. I will be in the truck right at the cost of the pro with something more capable and unique IMO. But I understand the convenience of just getting a pro for some people.

I think if you enjoy the process of mods it’s a no brainer to go with a different trim you upgrade because there is more value. But if you don’t just go with the pro, especially if you like the pro colors.

they probably took it down. 4K is too much for a 3” lift that’s got skinny shocks. Some dealers won’t install also I heard that’s ridiculous that a Toyota dealer can’t or won’t install a Trd Toyota part lift kit.

It's a trade off. Are the OE Fox shocks on a Pro better than the Bilsteins in the TRD 3" Lift? Absolutely. Does the 3" lift, overall, make the truck MORE capable than a stock TRD Pro? Very likely. Higher ground clearance and better approach angles.

That being said, if your truck is a pavement princess or mall crawler...the capabilities debate is kind of moot.

The other person's point, if the difference is $15k...I can promise you that you can spend $15k on a SR5 and make it more capable off road than a Pro. But, it will always just have SR5 resale value. Ask me how I know. hahaha.

Just for clarity, it is a TRD lift kit not a TRD Pro lift kit. It is not the the suspension from the pro. It's a lift kit for non Pro trucks, whereas the Pro actually has different suspension.

Fake engine sound is not available on the SR5 trim.

Personally, the TRD Pro isn't worth it to me as I like to add my own choice of parts over time. But you could be the total opposite, and buy the truck and never really make any big changes to it, and in that case, if you like the Pro, then I say go for it. Even a few years ago when I bought my Gen 2.5 Platinum, the Pro didn't appeal to me as much as the Platinum with the nicer leather/interior. Plus all the "TRD" and red lettering etc is a little childish to me (unpopular opinion, I know). Nothing like clean and sleek imo.

Ultimately, it all comes down to preference and what makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

Can’t get the red interior if that’s what you like in other trim.

I am going with the Pro as I really like the ride of the 2.5 Fox Shocks in the last gen tundra Pro, the Fox shocks on my Bronco Wildtrak the Fox in a used 3rd gen Pro I test drove months ago. I love the red interior matched with the MGM exterior too. However, if you are the type to modify everything you touch and/or want the most lift out of your truck then going for a different trim may suit you best.

If I was building my own Tundra rig besides adding some accessories I would not get a Pro and most likely get a limited or 1794 with an aftermarket Fox, Kings or Dobinson's lift.

This is the exact truck I would love to find. However lunar rock isn't available in a TRD Pro. This truck had red coil shocks so I assume it has the TRD Suspension.

Lunar rock with painted front grill surround instead of chrome only seems to be available with the TRD Sport package on an SR5 Trim. Limited trims don't have it.

I also really like the Boulder Softex interior color. Can't get that in the TRD Pro.

However I did really like the TRD Pro I test drove. Definitely could make color concessions for one of those if I could find one.

This is such an interesting mix of parts. I'm so intrigued. I wonder if it's a member here?

    It looks like this:
    • SR5 with the TRD Off Road Package (maybe it's the TRD Sport...can't tell from the resolution of the pic).
    • Color match wrapped front grill trim.
    • It looks like TRD OR or the Base SR5 wheels that have been powder coated or painted black? Or, maybe the all black Platinum wheels, but I'm betting wheels that have been powder coated.
    • TRD center caps added
    • Looks like it has the TRD 3" Lift

Lunar Rock Pros were only available for part 2022, you might have some luck finding a used one, but very unlikely there is any new inventory left.

I LOVE the red interior on my TRD Pro, wouldn't have it any other way, and i'm already looking at getting a red interior on my next Cayman when its time to upgrade my weekend toy.

just got my wife a new GLS 450 with crème interior. Never thought I would like a light interior but it is so nice. Thought about a red interior for my 911 but it’s just too much for me.

The pro doesn't' have a lift it ***(correction it does have a 1.1in front lift) has fancy fox shocks and different springs rates and sway bars (I added the rear shocks from a take off and they do perform well and still hunting for the fronts). Also the TRD pro rims stick out a little more because of the change in offset and a slightly wider tire (285/65/18 vs 265/60/20) hence the 1.4" wider stance (nearly identical height) and the width is the need for TRD Pro wheel well flares. The TRD 3" lift kit actually raises the vehicle to lift it and comes with new upper control arms, axles shafts, brakelines, etc.. I think mainly you could consider the TRD 3" as far as shocks go its basically a Bilstein 5100's (still not available from Bilstein). Comparison of base Limited to TRD Pro below you can see they are exactly the same height and you can see the width difference. So in summary TRD Pro is not lifted and TRD 3" lift is an actual lift. I personally feel if anyone is going to buy a PRO and lift it you completely defeated the purpose of buying the PRO. More capability for the money buying limited w/TRD package (gets rear locker) and then spending the money for a proper lift with a lot more capability.

Personally I think the pro is really overrated. It doesn't even have a very large lift. I bought a limited trd OR premium and did the 3" TRD lift and like it a lot and it was less expensive. I also wanted the 6.5 bed which you can't get on a pro. My friend has a 3rd gen taco pro and he paid a bunch of money for badges. Very little on it is really special. The pro really is in line with a Dodge rebel or Ford tremor. It costs a lot less than a TRX or Raptor R but those at least have amazing stuff added on that no other model has.

Below is the cost to mostly (I said mostly don't yell at me) to turn a Limited w/ TRD offroad package (for the locker and MTS) in my opinion if you bought the following TRD pro parts you would mostly have a TRD PRO (like I said mostly!!!)

Prices are local dealer and will vary slightly:

    TRD Pro Front socks PTR61-34220-FR- $1000.00/ea = $2000.00
    TRD Pro Rear Shocks PTR61-34220-RR- $800/ea = $1600.00
Front Sway TRD PRo- 48804-0C020- = $525.00 ish
TRD Pro Sway Bar end links- $65/ea = $130
    TRD front skid plate PTR60-34200- = $350.00-ish

    Total without wheels= $4600-$5000 +tax

    TRD Pro Wheels = $800-ish per wheel x 4 = $3200ish
    Total with wheels= $7800-$8200+tax

Can you get take off parts for cheaper? yep-er (got my TRD pro wheels with tires for $1900 and TRD Pro rear shocks $425 for the pair). Really though if you wanted to make a TRD pro from a TRD Limited it would cost you about $8000k but for cheaper you could customize the parts and likely get a more capable rig in the end for less money. TRD Pro is cool and you should get that if you want the cool factor and if you're after capability then buy the limited package you want and customize as you see fit. Basically an additional $8k from the dealer is what it would cost for the cool parts (+more if you pay to have it installed), to get fender flares and a couple other camo bits probably be in it another $800-$1000. Also consider all the other parts you get in the TRD 3" lift like drive shafts, control arms, brake lines, and other misc bits and it starts to appear to be a better value with more capability for the 3" lift.

Oh yeah second this if you want 6.5' bed its not an option in the pro, although it is hard to find especially with TRD OR package (bit of unicorn ish, but possible to find)

I waited a year to get what I wanted. So yeah, 6.5 is not easy to find with the premium TRD OR package but I'm VERY glad I held to what I wanted and I wasn't worried about things that are just visual.

    Interesting debate here...

I am currently in a TRD OR 2022 [non-hybrid] but have my eye on the TRD Pro Solar Octane 2023. For me, I am not a huge off-roader and would not be upgrading to a 3" lift, changing shocks, etc. but have swapped out wheels and tires. I think the TRD Pro just catches the eye a bit more. No chrome either which I have been trying to cover [wraps, etc.] since day one on my 22'.

If your looking at a Solar Octane, my understanding is that color is gone in 24'.

If you are looking to buy a truck w/the most capability out of the box and have no intention of doing suspension mods, then go w/the Pro; just be prepared to pay a higher mark up at this point since they are more difficult to come by and harder for dealers to get (apparently).

If you are wanting to do upgrades to the suspension, tires, wheels, etc. then save on the initial cost of the rig (and lower mark ups if any) that you'd spend on a Pro and get the lowest priced truck that has the 'amenities' you are looking for (leather, seating config, safety, sunroof, bed length, etc.) and use that money you saved to purchase a quality suspension upgrade.
