Anyone find a locking gas cap for a 3rd gen Tundra? I've scoured the usual sources with nothing that's compatible.

Would a 1st gen not fit a 3rd gen? Not sure why the filler neck would be a different size.

I have one myself from Autozone for $17.

    Too many, but not enough....
Probably better if you dont get a locking cap because if someone wants your gas, its better they suck a few gallons out rather than puncture your gas tank.

In the fittment guide, they differentiate between any Tundra older than a 2022. I was hoping someone would be able to chime in on it.

I don't think a locking cap will do anything for you, have you tried to siphon gas out of these new trucks? Used to do it on my 1993 T100 all the time when I ran out of gas for the lawn mower. Tried to do the same with my 2018 Tacoma and 2021 Tundra and I can't get a tube past the filler neck into the tank. You'd have to drill into the tank or pull the filler neck off.

Doesn't hurt to buy one, try it and return it if it doesn't fit. Downside is the seal isn't as tight so an EVAP code could trigger occasionally. The good obviously is less worry about someone pouring a soft drink into your tank.

How will a locking gas cap stop vandalism?

Make it a little harder to put something in the tank that will kill my engine.

Especially helps protect against the crazy ex-girlfriend, who would never drill a tank, but might pour something down the filler.

For those unaware, gas theft isn't the only reason someone might want a locking gas cap. There is an "environmental" activist group and followers that intentionally pour different crap into gas tanks of trucks and SUVs. Vandals have been doing this crap all over the place as well. A quick google search and you'll find tons that happening all over the US.

First thing I thought of, too. Fortunately I keep mine in the garage, but if I parked outside overnight I'd be concerned about punks pouring something down the tank.

    Edit: And then there's @
TheLordwoulddriveaTundra's post right above mine that I just now saw. Sigh..

Never really understood why the hybrids get a locking cover but the gas only models do not...am I missing something?

The new Tacos gas cap cover locks…. Why not the Tundra!? On top of that you have to unscrew the cap, Big Blue Oval Ford has a cap less design along with good ol’ Ram !

Hybrid systems require a different fuel pressure so its there as a safeguard to ensure the user doesn't open the gas cap while the system is in an unsafe state.

Ahhh yes, I do recall the issue about what "starts the engine"...the standard 12V starter motor or the hybrid motor/generator and one of the factors was temperature and if the gas cap was removed. Makes sense now.

Truck Cap, drivers grab handle, bug shield, locking gas cap, tail gate black raised insert letters. (Searching for black 20 inch rims.)
It is NOW July 1st 2023. Still no luck on finding a locking fuel DOOR for sale. for my 2020 Tundra crewmax.I have been trying many places on line for months that say they no longer carry them OR that they have been discontinued. I finally had 2 places admit it is not do to lack of customers wanting them. But rather a "shortage of parts" from MANUFACTURERS. Any info on someplace that has now started selling them again would be greatly appreciated. Gloss black finish would be great. Again this is for the fuel DOOR ....NOT CAP.

Stops you from losing $140 in gas. That’s all (cap costs $17) And, when I was a kid there were kids on our street that put stuff in peoples gas’s tanks. Rocks, snails, Cola, urine, etc - they thought it was funny and in some cases a payback to the neighbors that complained about them to their parents. No thanks!!

Sad News - Finally took delivery of my ‘23 Limited yesterday and the first thing I did was match up my 3rd Gen Tacoma’s locking cap by Stant with the OEM Tundra cap. Threads and insert dimensions are the same BUT the knob and locking mechanism are just a hair larger and enough to prevent the fuel door from fully closing - Crap. No wonder Stant hasn’t listed this cap for Tundra. I’m on a mission to find one!! Will report back.
