the chain hooks are way easier on the gen3 and this just rests on it, it will be fine, worst case just slide the lock off

I’m picking up my boat in a few days as it’s getting a new canvas cover made, I’ll try it and report back

that’s one improvement Toyota made the chain hooks are finally oval front to back and you can easily get the chains on and off.

Can someone explain to me why a ball mount lock is needed?

run into a gas station or store with the boat on your truck, some d bag rolls up and simply slides out the normal Toyota cotter pin , rolls the trailer back and installs ball mount into their truck and rolls away in about 30 seconds . This at least deters the mouth breather level ones as you cant just take out a cotter pin and take the trailer

OP should be able to extend those loops with a few chain quick links, not terrible.

Yeah, it's all good! Just one issue, they wait until you are approaching with the keys, blast you, and take the whole rig. I'd rather pay insurance and let them take the trailer.

wont be needed I don’t think there is more clearance there than the photo shows underneath

Or just slide the lock off, anyway

    On we go

Can they really roll the trailer back far enough to hitch another truck up that quickly and easily?

Not if one is careful when selecting where and how to park. In most cases they prey on the low hanging fruit. Obstacles, slopes, terrain, etc. can all be helpful.

Missed this post but for those following, this may be worth a look, uses your truck key. Assume they have one to match 3rd gen key by now.

Nothing for 22+ that I saw and nothing on where it’s made.

it uses the key inside the fob?

Yes uses key in fob. I just called them they said they are working on the 22+ but no timeline. When I asked where they were made they said “most” in Mexico.

ok, first tow with these two locks ,

latch lack works and fits nicely, works perfect.

The ball mount lock works fine, when you slide the safety chain into the attachment point it does rotate the lock up. And then when you take off the safety chain its lose again.

so all in all, it works fine and you can get the chains off and on easy, it also doesn't bust your knuckles trying to get the cotter pin off the OEM ball mount king pin since its stupid tight using all OEM toyota stuff.

so all in all, I like this stuff and using the same key everywhere is super nice

That's what I have on my little utility trailer tongue coupler. I was thinking of purchasing a massive lock for the new travel trailer we are expecting, one of those cast iron or cast aluminum boots, but I don't want to deal with four or five different locks and keys. Our travel trailer will be insured. If someone really wants to steal it, they will, and I'll get reimbursed.

Not exactly, insurance will depreciate the value over time. Plus any contents will be somewhat difficult to prove. Unless of course you have some specialized insurance and have negotiated an acceptable replacement cost ahead of time. At least take pictures of your contents and have receipts to prove the value. Insurance companies are pretty much in business for them, not you.

Plus then you have to get your hands on a replacement.

Good point on depreciation. It might be based on the average used value, which is pretty high for a fiberglass trailer we've ordered.
The contents are probably covered under either our towing vehicle's insurance or even the house insurance policy.
That original Picasso that so many people have hanging on every wall of their pop-up trailers is going to be hard to replace...:)
But seriously, probably the most expensive thing inside of our camper is probably going to be the Macbook. I will add a GPS tracker, which should lower the insurance premium. I just don't see myself futzing around with a bunch of locks and keys, like a character in medieval play. But I do see how locking the thing would bring a peace of mind. Maybe I'll change my disposition after we get hit.:D

Where do you live? I have heard stories like that...mostly from lock manufacturers. GPS tracker in the travel trailer or in the boat will help locate it in literally minutes.

I picked up an AMP lock for the trailer tongue. If I recall correctly they will also sell matching hitch lock pins too. They are a bit speedy but I feel it was worth the cost.

Ya, my old setup was a pita as well, I used my old Toyota setup and the ball mount pin needs to be 1/2” longer .

I picked up an amp lock in June. Happy w it. Made in Canada

I looked at the ones that matched to your key but I thought that would be frustrating since most of times my key is already in the ignition when I back up to trailer so just prefer a separate set. Just works better for me.

    Lots of stuff!
I made a wheel lock that clamps around the wheel and uses a Proven puck lock with the pin hole that goes through body so the "Lock picking lawyer" can't drill it.

I have a Proven hitch lock and use a padlock on the coupler release. I have a locking 5/8" pin in the truck receiver. And I have removable chains which get stored when the trailer is parked.

I have so many keys, it takes me hours to unlock everything.

Then I added an Airtag to see where the thieves take it ;)

Any locking system can be defeated with a few tools and some time! Depending on the campsite, this might not ever happen but boondocking would leave the trailer exposed to theft. Not too much you can do about it other than make sure you have good insurance.

My tongue weight with my boat on the trailer is 600 lbs. I doubt you’ll “easily” slide that out without taking the weight off using the trailer jack, assuming the trailer has one.
Guess we need a trailer jack lock, too. :D
