I've done plugs on other trucks, including my 2000 LC. I've watched some videos and as usual, those two against the fire wall look like a PITA, especially passenger side.

Wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to get those two replaced. Long 1/4" socket extension? links to jointed socket extension? etc.

    Thank you.

Did mine a few months ago and it was non-eventful. For the back cylinders, I just drop in the socket + extension first then attach the ratchet.

It was more of a pain in the ass to get the connectors off the coils then anything else with the change.

Not too bad of a job. But Watch out for counterfeit plugs. Don’t buy from Amazon or eBay

5.7 I use the spark plug socket to remove the plug and i use a piece of rubber tube to Install the plug then take the rubber plug out and tighten them up. I also use a little anti seize on plug and dielectric grease on rubber boots and electrical connections

Yeah i have anti-seize and grease. rubber tube is smart. so i thought removing the connectors from the coils, just a plastic tab, pull off and then a 10 mm screw to remove coil from the motor?? that plastic tab?? I'll have to watch the videos again. I recall him using something, but I recall doing it on my Land Cruiser and other toyotas, and not being too bad.

It is just a push plug to remove unplug then take the 10mm off it is easier

New spark plugs don’t need anti seize anymore they use special materials so it don’t rust or get seize.

For the passenger side firewall plug(s) I think I (sorry, not looking inside the hood) unbolted a part and got better access.

Be very careful of where you buy the plugs. Denso has a network of authorized resellers that their website will identify for you. Here's what the proper Denso box looks like (bought through bricks & mortar Advance Auto):

Don’t trust it. Been bitten. I’ll stick to anti seize.

    This.

I feel this truck is one of the easiest vehicles to change spark plugs. I think it took me all of a leisurely 45 minutes to do all 8 plugs. One of the main wiring harness mounts slightly interferes with the back plug on the passengers side but you can easily bend it a 1/4” or so to make it easier to access the back plug.

A combination of 3” and 6” extensions make life easy. Also, a magnetic pickup tool helps retrieve old plugs and and drop in new plugs without much fuss.

I ended up with counterfeit plugs last go round and one of the electrodes flat melted off the plug.

They are great! Only downside is shipping cost, which negates the part cost savings. Especially from different distribution locations. Try to match locations to make shipping cheaper.

That's exactly what I did as well. It helps a ton to remove the airbox. My daughter was handing me tools while I was hanging over the fender working the plugs out, and all in all it took an hour or so of my time to swap out the 8 buggers.

On the anti-seize aspect, the reason you shouldn't use anti-seize is because it affects the torque needed/applied to the spark plug. Do not use anti-seize. Direct from NGK (and I'm sure Denso is the same).

All in all, it was more of a pain to change plugs on my old 2.7 EcoBoost than the 5.7. Back cylinders are actually pretty open on our trucks.

Thank you for all the info. I got Denso plugs from a local family owned auto shop that's very reputable. Just about ever hot rod owner uses this shop and the are very knowledgeable. Now just debating on the anti-seize...crap

I didn’t use anti seize the firs go around. I used a tiny dab this go round but didn’t torque to spec, knowing it wouldn’t be accurate. So….

You don’t need the anti- seize if the plugs are genuine.

good call on getting plugs from a local auto parts store. Sounds like your good to go
