Alpine ILX-F511. Game Changer

Yeah, I think we've all been guilty of that.

 

So far everything has crossed over between the harness on the ilx-107 and f511 except for the camera harness. Connector is the same, just more wires on the f511 (because more cameras.

Edit: The wiring shitshow is not my doing. This is stereo #4 for this truck, funny enough all done by reputable shops previous to me owning it.

 

I’m grabbing the Dasaita one on Amazon since it has metal side brackets. Going to try to design and 3D print a 1-DIN blank-off to fill the gap above the housing.

 

Print and extra single DIN plate if you get that figured out haha

 

You’ll likely have to reflash the meastro but otherwise likely no issues.

 

Reviews on that camera setup aren’t great for that price. 1920x1080 front cam only…

It looks like it includes both the front and rear cams from what I'm seeing. I agree the reviews aren't the greatest, but I do like the integration into the head unit.

Edit: I misunderstood. Yeah, front cam only for 1920x1080...

 

It’s a single din unit so the only option would be to use the pocket from the dash kit. I threw mine away since I’ve have 2 double din units, and I’m not a big fan of the pocket anyway.

Do you think there would be any issues with other camera brands? I have a thinkware front and rear cam already installed, would be cool to tie them in if they can integrate

Is the ILX-F511 chrome or silver around the bezel?

Thanks, it’s hard to tell from pictures. I haven’t seen it in person yet. Would you say that it matches the silver on the dash?

I just de-chromed everything but left the silver. I don’t mind the silver.

 

Based on @TRDFerguson 's picture, I would say it's within 50 shades of silver

Honestly though, it looks close to the OEM silver. If the color match isn't there, the bezel is pretty thin where it would attract a lot of attention to it.

 

I'd say it's a similar finish to the brushed "metal" look around the AC controls and dash kit, and very close to the finish and color on the AC control knobs. Like Jimmy mentioned, it's a very minimal amount of trim, so you probably won't notice it once installed.

Has anyone added a front camera? Does it actually require the two camera switcher? Because it has two camera inputs already.

 

It has two inputs, but you still need a second adapter (not the switcher). It's the Alpine KCX-CAM1. You get one in the box, but it'll probably be most useful on the backup camera.
