If you just refill at a half tank then it will only be $75 :homer:

I put 100 of my hard earned dollars in the tank yesterday and got 21 gallons out of the deal. Not a bargain by any definition but it is about 3/4 of a tank roughly. That's around $4.75 a gallon. I imagine it's about the same in "Da Bay Area" only with fewer homeless drug addicts shitting on the sidewalks. :eek2::poking:

I live in hurricane prone area where gas stations run out of gas for hundreds of miles during an evacuation so the extended range could be very useful, and if we get hit there could be gas shortage after returning.

I can confirm for 2021, went down to 42 miles before empty, added about 28 gallons, so still had at least 8 in the tank. The computer range after filling up is about 450 miles with is great. This is all very good info.

I didn't even know I had be bigger gas tank and 450 mile range is way more than any other vehicle I've had.

Just got a new used 2020 Limited with the 38 gallon tank. Dealer filled it up I drove over 400 miles but I didn't reset the Trip A. I've always used Trip A for gas and Trip B for oil tracking. Just filled up with about 40 mile range left. It took 29 gallons. I was seeing 530+ mile range. System says I'm getting 16.9 MPG.

Good idea with the trip meters, will borrow that idea. Most I’ve ever filled up is almost 33 gallons.

I’ve always wanted to run the tundra out of gas just to see how far it would go and how much refill it would take. But then that takes some planning and the urban legend (?) of burning up the fuel pump.

This thread would have NEVER happened if toyota would simply put a 38 gallon tank on their truck with 38 gallons of usable gas. After 46 years of buying Toyotas, my loyalty is waiving but at my age who gives a s***.

All 38 gallons is usable. It's not hidden in some secret compartment that only Toyota has the keys for.

It's called reserve. All vehicles have it. The only reason this thread exists is because the tank is large enough to make the reserve really noticeable. Other than that, we'd all be driving around using up 37.5 gallons of fuel at 15mpg and bitching about running out.

So I just read a couple post on this thread and seems a lot of people go off the trucks computer to estimate MPG's. Does anyone use an app ? I use an app and my MPG's don't add up to what the trucks computer says. I'm at about 9.28 MPG (City driving) spending about $100 - $120 to fill up with a quarter of a tank left. Not complaining but wondering what it's going to be once I regear this hog.

you "should" get better MPG with gears...even better if you boost it...first 2 years you'll have worse, but after you're used to it, it'll buff out...I use Fuelly to track MPG and man oh man, I'm only 5-6mpg off from the computer

Filled up today with 24 miles left. Looks like I had over 7 gallons left. That would have been 100+ miles. How much have you put in and how long have you pushed the Range?

the 8 gallon reserve is to prevent fuel starvation...because our tank is long/flat-ish.

don't let the fuel light come on.

both of the dudes that tuned my truck said >>if you have a blower (and you know who you are) don't go below 1/4 tank.

@ 1/2 tank - you have used 15 gallons. go fill up.

This logic does not vary if you:
    use 10k oil change intervals
    have a trans cooler
    use 0w-20 oil
    use Amsoil
    have 35" tires

I filled mine up the other day. Put in 28 gallons, meaning I had 10 left. Miles remaining estimate was 53 miles, but I was only getting 7 mpg on that tank, so I probably had about 70 miles left in reality. Not too far off in this case.

I was in the 2 week trip with my family, drove wife's Sequoia with its tiny 24 gallon tank and gas appetite similar to Tundra's. It was very annoying filling it 2-3 times a day, because who knows when you'll see a gas station next time? 38 gallon tank definitely rules.

I know it's an option for the tundra but can you do a 38 gallon swap in the Sequoia?

No. Sequoia's tank is as big as can be physically fit.

It mostly comes from the fact that Sequoia is generally shorter and also independent rear suspension takes more space than solid axle with leaf springs.

V8 Sequoia updated to Tundra's 2014+ interior, +1-2 feet in trunk and accordingly bigger tank would be a killer vehicle.

Oh, also a self-leveling rear suspension please, like Sachs/ZF Nivomats. Sturdy, comfortable and no compressor and air lines.

It's not a programming issue. It works as intended. The 38 gallon tank is about 6 feet long and fairly wide. If you are on an incline all the fuel goes to the low end. If you are below the reserve you risk tilting all the fuel away from the pump and have a fuel starvation issue.

All this howling about "I can't use all my fuel!" is completely absurd to me. Am I the only person that grew up having it drilled into me to fill up at a half tank whenever possible and that I better never let it go below a quarter? Where does this obsession with running all the way down and then complaining that you didn't burn every drop come from?
