Im about to lift my tundra 6ins (ReadyLift), and currently have 34s on my truck. I am debating on going to 35s.

Ive heard some mixed reviews about regearing the truck (4.88 or 5.29).

Is it worth doing it? Will it make the truck last longer?

    TIA!

Lot of information came across in this thread; spend some time looking through it and you'll find charts and other data that talk about RPMs for specific ratios vs tire size, etc..

It should be a good place to start your research.

Depending where you are, I believe another group buy was started. So, if you're looking to save a few $$$ it might be a way to go.

Good luck on your decision

5.29s and powertrax grip pro LSD in the rear is about the best option. Front e locker if you seriously off road.

Just got 5.29’s today. Stock 4.30’s. Running 34” tires. Well worth the money. So much better to drive.

5.29, without a doubt for 34” and larger tires.

    No. Question.

The Powertrax Grip Pro LSD is well worth the price of admission while you’re having the gears set.

Remember, that “auto” limited slip that Toyota gives us in our Tundras is nothing more than an open differential. Other than the traction control via braking, there is zero traction adder. With a real LSD, you’ll see the traction control light a lot less because you’re not a one tire fire anymore…

Nope. I bought my gears (Nitro) through a friend that owns a shop. Always good to pay wholesale! Amazon, of all places, had my Grip Pro listed for less than wholesale by a fair amount, so I bought it there.

Shop around for a decent price.

That one in particular was in Riverside area of CA; but there should be another one floating around right now (not sure where that one is at)...

    Where do you live ?
What size tire are you going to run ?

Its flat down here, the stock 4:30's with 37's were fine and would be for most people.

    I did e-lockers F/R so I did 5:29's while I was there. Happy that I did.

Unless it’s all downhill everywhere you drive, 37” tires and stock gearing will be less than ideal.

Acceleration will be much more sluggish than stock, fuel economy will be worse than after regearing appropriately, and your transmission will hate you if you use 6th gear.

Gears are, in my opinion, the best performance mod that we can do to our trucks. Yes, I put them above a supercharger, which is second…. Well, third. Good suspension is second.

I run 37s on stock gears in the PNW and have no issues haha.

If you’re sticking with 34/35s I wouldn’t even consider gears.

After a week with the 5.29’s on my 34’s, no way I’d ever consider leaving it stock. Now to hook up the trailer and rzr and see how she pulls.

After 18 months with 5.29’s and 34’s, I’m still all smiles. 0.0% chance I’d do this with stock gears after recognizing the difference.

Get the preliminary heat cycles and break in done, then swap oil before you do any hard pulls or towing if you can!

You’ll love towing your trailer with those lower gears…

I made it to 300 miles before I had to tow. Changed the oil this morning. And WOW. Huge difference. 70 in 6th is no issue now. I’d love to crank it up to 80 (which is the speed limit) and see how it does but I’m still being a bit sensitive on the gears. Varying speed from 60-70 and stopping every 30mins for a few mins to let them cool.

Cant remember... Do you have a tune? If not, you're going to be limited at ~93 MPH...

Nice. Well, if you haven’t already, adjust the tune for gears and crank that speed limiter to 11.

Already done. Loaded it the moment I got it home.

I’m still amazed at how much better it pulls. I’m going to drain the fluid one more time after this trip and then I’m going to let her eat.

It might not have issues, but your truck is absolutely gutless without gears
