    Team,

    I have code P1340 camshaft position sensor : Bank 1 Sensor 2. engine starts but hunts/stumbles until dies 3 seconds later. 2 UZ-FE Engine - 2005 V8 4.7L

My question is : What is difference between Sensor 1 and Sensor 2?

    > Bank 1 is driver side , Done
    > but is sensor 1 the sensor by the timing belt, then sensor 2 is where ??

I want to say someone on here indicated in the past it was one of the bank 2 sensors. Let me see if I can dig on that.

    Thanks Shifty.

So I replaced VVT1 and it didn't fix. I replaced the camshaft sensor in front, and it worked.

So even though my code showed "sensor 2" that is not the VVT sensor. It is still the camshaft sensor in front.

I had my doubts about it, there's a reason I didn't definitely answer. Thanks for clarifying. T

Curious, was the camshaft position sensor up front physically damaged in any way? Wires nicked, etc.? I was under the impression Toyota fixed the design in '02-'03 with a new integrated wire retaining clip to prevent damage.

Irrespective of what your code reader says, there is only one cam shaft position sensor and it’s located by driver side cam as noted in TSB that came out in 2006 pertaining to the P01340 code. There should be no doubt. The link that was posted above dealt with the OP indeed a VVT sensor problem not cam shaft

Indeed it did, only linked it because you clearly indicated there was only 1 camshaft position sensor in your reply. Thanks for that.

I understand….it’s a questionable sensor that has come up on numerous occasions since I’ve been here and certain comments have been incorrect….”replace both cam shaft pos sensors”….just one example.

Any/all timing belt videos linked to in here would show that, along with any of the FSM’s that are being linked to. No harm, No foul….simply an important fact IMMHO

Hey BubbaW, in the linked info you provided above it mentions the Camshaft Position Sensor Assembly was improved. Would that include the addition of a silver colored band being added to cover the tip of the sensor? Asking due to a replacement I bought at RockAuto having this added feature with a green check mark indicating it fits my vehicle? Thanks, Tom

Did you buy an OEM sensor, or aftermarket? It fits, and it’s the original part are 2 different things. This truck’s are picky with electronics and sensors.

Hey Knabores, I appreciate you taking time to reply & assist.
After getting a no start single click/thud from starter & P0340 / P0345, I sourced the HOLSTEIN CSPS 2CAM0335 (in timing cover) & 2 Dorman 907-866 CSPS's (the top of the valve covers) from Rock Auto due to the price & the lil blue INFO button leading me to believe the OE hype. Another gracious member has posted somewhere that the actual name for these 2 Sensors is VVT.
Sadly, I read that part about being picky in several 1st Gen threads after I had ordered & installed them. (The $117. Denso sensor assembly (in timing cover) pic shows it also has this thin silver band screwed down over the tip of the Sensor.) Despite the replacement of all three & new battery, I'm still getting the same ol single click/thud from starter & no codes. I'm reading the crap out the EWD's posted by Shifty & others & related threads. I'm starting a Return & getting OEM today, when able can you tell me which ones you'd buy & from where?
    Thanks again.

Use an online Toyota parts dealer such as Serra in Birmingham and put in your vin. You can find OEM sensors that way. Sometimes Rockauto will also have the OEM option. But it won’t say Toyota. It will say Denso (electronics) or Aisin.
