Power rear view mirror

So my DC mirror is looking pretty crappy. I looked on ebay they are showing a auto dimming with digital compass available for about $80. Mine is a xsp type. I'm curious if my truck will have a female harness plug type thing behind the headliner for power. If anyone has any experience with doing this please share any information you might have.   • The overhead console that has time/outside temperature and/or compass. is another DC-exclusive. NO, that overhead console won't fit in an AC or RC truck without significantly modifying the headliner (at least) and rewiring your truck from the fusebox to roof. If you have a DC but no overhead console, the wiring for that special console may be tucked up in your headliner, check for it!
  • Some DC trucks (but not AC/RC) came pre-wired for an auto-dimming rearview, like the Sequoia. That being said, if you want to add an auto-dimming mirror, with compass, HomeLink garage door opener, outside temp, or whatever else, this post should direct you to necessary details/pictures you need. DC owners may have the wiring tucked into the headliner above the console opening. You may find the temp sensor wiring on the firewall as seen in that post above. AC/RC cab owners need to retrofit; there are OEM harnesses available, but the kits aren't plug 'n play...

 

My 2005 XSP double cab was prewired for the mirror. It's tucked up in the headliner. Are you in SWFL?

 

Hey actually in the Tampa area. I will definitely look for it. Seems like the features in the Sequoia could work too.

 

Read up, pretty sure it's in the reply I linked above, but the Sequoia and Tundra use same connectors but have some of the wiring swapped. @BubbaW has posted in the past exactly which wires are different. I recommend reading that down, and reading the links in the reply I linked above before jumping on anything. The knowledge you need is here, but it may be a bit of a link-maze to get to it.

 

Okay definitely getting deep on the thread you created, suggested. Looking at 912's speaker install atm. GX460 Might be in my future. Tundra needs paint from the Florida sun. Had I kept it waxed it probably would still look great. So the thing ahead of the sunglasses holder is a trip odometer and what else? Not sure if that is worth the effort. But like the mirror options

 

That "info display" thing in front of the mirror, IIRC, normally has time and temperature, maybe compass? I forget.

And yeah, if you've got metallic paint, that's one of the topics in that thread I linked in the 2nd reply above. Clearcoat tends to fail in hot/sunny places, especially on the more-horizontal panels (roof, hood, topside of the fender flares, topside of the doors). The solid, non-metallic-paint trucks are almost always single-stage/no clear, like mine, so no pigment under the clearcoat to heat up and help degrade that bond (clear<=>basecoat). I prefer the metallic colors, especially metallic gold, metallic silver, metallic grey like @912 and @abcinv's trucks. But there's only one generation/manufacturer trucks I've owned that had worse clearcoat issues, and that's the 88-98 GM pickups, GMT400 was exceptionally bad.

 

Well I took down the console sunglass thing and didn't find a separate wire for the mirror on my DC. Short of taking headliner down not sure the wire is there. I'd think it would come off the plug controlling the lights. But looking under the hood I did find the temperature plug deal so it must be compatible but maybe through the harness plug with the Sequoia time, trip, thing

 

The OEM wiring kit I bought for installing that mirror included wiring from the mirror area down to the fusebox. And it was a separate wire from the fusebox area to the front of the truck. Not sure it helps, but it's just another tidbit of info.

I know there were some pics in one of those threads showing exactly where others found the wiring tucked away. Not sure if you found it or not, or how obvious the harness is.

 

Two years difference but my 04 DC Limited did not have mirror harness. I do have the overhead console that has temp, compass, homelink. When I found an auto dimming mirror at J/Y from a Sequoia, all it needed was positive and negative hookup. The auto dimming mirror with compass should only require neg/pos....the compass is in mirror. I used the below instructions and attached the whole install pdf.

 

Hey was the overhead counsel stock in your DC? I Finished up my mirror today. I'm wondering if the over head counsel would be plug in play on mine. I'd like to be able get the temp thing. Thanks for posting the diagram I'll have to look at mine again.

 

Indeed it was stock.
According to how many conductors you have in the overhead console connector determines if plug/play. You possibly only have 3 considering the way your asking ?

Yeah mine has more than 3 wires. Reading the thred you posted another guy was saying there was a gentex mirror with temp included along with homelink and compass. I think I'll go that route because no moonroof in mine even though I really like the counsel

 

If you consider the overhead console, post a good pic of your connector showing a good shot of the colors and pin location. We can tell ya if the 2 temp sendor conductors are there.
Yeah, the gentex is a good route also since you have pwr and gnd already there.

 

Will try and get a picture of it soon. Any help would be appreciated
