    Function before sparkle.
Yes, I use it. So far it’s the same as any other - just cheaper.

I use Kirkland oil. 5W30. Great oil. You'll be fine. And richer.

Oh. And I got Costco's in-the-mail-box upcoming sale items 3 days ago. Kirkland oil gonna be $8.00 off on 5 gallons when it goes into effect in about a week. Should make a jug about $25-$30.

Bought a box yesterday. The savings on oil alone pays for my Costco membership.

Yep. Have it in mine Gen3 now. Just returned from a trip to Colorado pulling a camper. Many 10K passes and absolutely no issues. The oil still actually looks really good. It is fine oil.

I was waiting to see if someone would have an oil sale. I got the filters and the aluminum housing with fumoto valve to start doing my own oil changes. Picked up four 5 quart 0w-20 jugs for $63. Thanks for posting

Whatever this forum told me to do
@ 5k intervals, it’s the best 0-20 on the market

I used it for the first 60k

after 4500 miles and 18 dyno runs, my kirklands oil showed no wear metals and a TBN of 4.6

most other folks will give you opinion. Facts are better

Same here. Sam's club does carry Mobil and currently Penzoil and Castrol (near me).
Their house brand (Prime) is conventional.
If I had a Costco closer, I'd have no reservations about using Kirkland.
It's oil. It's made and distributed by Highline Warren (not Exxon Mobil). They make oil for many, many, many labels.
They know how to make oil and it meets/exceeds all the same standards as all the recognizable major labels.

Just got back from Costco and bought a case of the two bottle 5qts 0w20 for my upcoming oil change next month on the truck. It is $30.99 until 9/24 on the sign. Going to be my first time using Kirkland as I'm not using Amsoil membership anymore since my other car I'm switching to VR1 Valvoline.

Funny Sam's club came up this morning.
My wife told me she was running there with the step daughter, so I tagged along.
They had Mobil 1 and Penzoil 1qt 6 packs.
Mobil worked out to $7.25 p/qt and Penzoil I think was $5.50.
Probably cheaper than the auto parts store, but still didn't feel cheap enough to make me wanna grab either one.

It is fine oil. Ran it for 200k in my 2015 Taco and still purred like a kitten. All full syn oils that meet the GF6 standard are great.... Dont let the Amsoil salesman convince you otherwise.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
EDIT: This oil is good to go, product description was not updated but kinda hidden specifications pop up shows real specs.

I got a little curious as I want to buy a few packs for other vehicles the SO and I own.

Page 549 of the manual for a 2023 Tundra (Owners Manual_USA_M0C051_en) states the following:

    “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is
used in your Toyota vehicle. Use
    Toyota approved “Toyota Genuine
    Motor Oil” or equivalent to
    satisfy the following grade and
    viscosity.
    Oil grade:

    ILSAC GF-6A multigrade engine oil

    Recommended viscosity: SAE
    0W-20

    From the Costco description:

    https://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-0w-20-full-synthetic-motor-oil-5-quart,-4-pack.product.100687280.html

    Applications
For use in gasoline, ex-fuel or gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles requiring SAE 0W-20 API SN PLUS, SN, SL and ILSAC GF-5, GF-4 or previous standards. Approved for use in all GM gasoline engines requiring dexos1™ Gen 2 0W-20.

    From Mobil:

    https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/about-us/mobil-1/mobil-1-modern-engines/ilsac-gf-6

What do the new GF-6 standards mean for my engine?
ILSAC standards are constantly evolving and improving to meet changing industry demands. The popularization of turbocharged engines among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has led to a new focus on turbocharger-specific standards for GF-6. The primary purpose of GF-6 is to combat problems with LSPI, a common issue with turbocharged engines. As in the 2018 upgrade of API SN to API SN Plus, the new ILSAC GF-6 standards also require added protection against the harmful effects of LSPI in today’s modern turbocharged engines.

It's likely not an issue at all if you were to use this oil in the new Tundras but I would hate to have an engine/turbo issue on my truck get denied a warranty service over some oil that they inspected. I signed up to pay a lot of money for a truck that isn't as fancy as the domestics but has/had good brand reputation.

    What is lspi?

Could this motor be that picky that the failures are tied to oil quality and specs? Seems unlikely but interesting find

Is it possible Costco hasn’t updated the product webpage, and the oil is in fact gf-6?

    https://www.valvolineglobal.com/tr-tr/what-is-lspi/
One of them is low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI). Also termed stochastic pre-ignition (SPI) or super-knock, LSPI occurs in modern turbocharged gasoline direct injection technology. This phenomenon may result in fatal engine damage when you least expect it.

Could the motor? Probably not, but someone (or some entity) who doesn't want to cover a new motor for you would love to point it out.

I tried Amsoil “small engine” synthetic oil. Supposed to have more zinc, for small engines. When I changed my generator oil it was a very weird/brown color. When I used “whatever was cheapest at Walmart” oil it looked much better than the Amsoil.

not sure if it’s an Amsoil thing, or small engine motor oil thing. Same grade oil, same change interval.

    This.

Here is the back of a bottle of the 0W20 Kirkland that I picked up from Costco today and it includes ILSAC GF-6A.
    upload_2023-9-2_22-24-14.jpg

From Costco site. It shows ILASAC GF-6A Approved oil. Better than meets requirements.

Ah, you gotta hit the "specifications" link under the photos which bring up a new window not elsewhere in the page. OK, concern resolved.
