Hey everyone, i have a 2010 tundra dbl cab, sr5 stock aluminum rims. Nothing special. Its time for new tires. I want something that looks aggressive, but i do 98% road driving. Interstate and in town. I am looking at bf goodrich ko2 $1300 installed (neighbor has them on his f150 and loves them) nitto terra grappler g2 $1000 installed, and the cooper adventurer at force at i think $900 installed. I like the look of the nitto, have always had good performance with coopers and bf goodrich. I am leaning towards the nitto. You guys have other recommendations, or comments on what i am looking at? Also, i think the cooper has a 65k mile and the others are 50k. I would like to save a little, but just looking for a discussion…thanks!!!

 I have a similar list of potential tire options. Curious minds want to know.

Went back and checked, looks like the nitto has a 65k and the cooper is 55k warranty. (I think)

Better go back and check those Nitto's again, unless you are trying to fit car tires on your truck.... you need the LT's not the P's

Why does he need the LT’s?

Sorry, I always assume that someone with a truck is gonna be doing truck things with it, I suppose a pavement princess could use P's?

P rated tires have more weight carrying capacity than the truck does. Most are around 2600# per tire, which is 5200# across the rear axle that’s only rated around 4100#. LTs add extra plys for additional strength and puncture resistance. They have more weight carrying capacity, but again, you can’t really use it without being way over the axle rating or GVWR. Most who drive trucks primarily on road have little use for LT tires. They add weight and cost, and take away from fuel economy and comfort.

Exactly. That's why when I recently bought Falken Wildpeaks for my truck I went with the SL load rated tire instead of the E-rated version. They can carry more weight than the truck can, they're lighter, and they were about $40 per tire cheaper. Plus they had better treadwesr ratings and warranty.

Good looking tire and a nice price. When you get them installed, I’d love to see a pic or two.

Ok, just got them installed. Went to pepbous, total out the door was $1155 and some change. That was the tires, install, road hazard, rotate and balance, and lifetime alignment. This did also include my military discount of i think 10%. I did hit the interstate at 80mph just to see, and there was no noticeable road noise, and they felt…like new tires so. As of now, i am pleased with the purchase!!!

happy to see you didn't go with BFG. IME/IMO they "used" to be a great tire but the compound must have changed over the years because i found their wet weather traction pretty bad and in snow no better.

I'll be needing brakes in a while on my 2010 DC according to my Mechanic. I have 88,000 miles now and he tells me I should see 100,000 from my OEM brakes. Can't see the sense in not going with OEM for my uses.

If you’re doing truck stuff and need e load tires for the weight you need a truck that can handle that weight.

I'm assuming you're looking at the SL load (P-rated) G2s. The SLs used to come on the TRD Pro 4Runners, and back when I had a 4Runner, everyone at T4R.org who had them couldn't get rid of them quickly enough. They might've been trying to do more off-roading with them than they should have been though.

I put nearly 50k miles on my 4Runner with the LT version of the G2s, and they were awesome. Lightest weight LT tire for the size, too.

I've had absolutely horrid experiences with KO2s in rain and mud. I don't care how cool it looks; I will never run that tire again.

TBH, sounds like you just need a good set of Defenders. Why not? Any aggressive looking SL all terrain tire isn't going to perform as well for your use, nor will it last as long.

Just a small correction - when P rated tires are used on a light truck, they are derated by 11%, so they are only rated for 2315 lbs, not 2601 lbs per tire. 4630 lbs is still higher than the rated axles capacity as you noted, but only by 10% or so.

What my truck is rated for and what it does, like many others on here, are two totally different things.

It's people like you that make it so we can't have minivan trucks. Instead, we get these stupidly rugged, archaic body on frame, live axle stuff haulers. Sure, the Crewmax has enough room in the back seat for like 17 people and their dogs, but we want people moving mini vans with a bed! I mean, if only I could take a Honda minivan and put a bed on it.. What? Are you telling me they already did that? A Honda Cribline? Oh poo.

Wait, I do truck things with my truck, too. I must be part of the problem. If only I'd have known... :anonymous:

I don't even know what a minivan truck is, mebbe the Honda Ridgeline??? Just gimme a bed, a planet killing V8 and a knockoff CD player and I'll be happy as a pig in shit - cos I can transport one of them in the passenger seat and not worry about it damaging all these Gucci leather seats and surround sound movie theatre type entertainment bricks.

Thanks for posting the pic and sharing your thoughts. I’ve done a lot of research and have my choices narrowed down to either these Coopers or Wildpeak AT3W. They both seem close in design and features. The price on the coopers is better but I like the idea of the Falkens since they were what came on my truck from the factory. I’ll be taking a trip down to pep boys soon to put my eyes on both and make my pick.
