Finally scored a Pro-Tech TR-4. Been wanting one but they’ve been out of production for quite a while. I found a guy selling several knives from his collection so I jumped on it. It’s pretty awesome, but it’s massive.

I've been looking for a better belt loop system for my ESEE 4 kydex sheath. I came across this one by Sagewood Gear. It's excellent quality and sits my knife right where I like it.

Do you have any use for the lanyard hole?
I like the design of this, for a general purpose knife and am considering making a version of it with a few upgrades.
Also curious about the kydex sheath. Is that a horizontal carry?

I’ve thought about adding a short, braided paracord lanyard just to give me a little something extra to grab/hold on to. On the other hand I’m afraid it would make it more likely to snag on something.

The kydex sheath can be set up in several configurations. The belt loop is attached via Chicago screws like many kydex gun holsters. I carry mine horizontally in the small of my back. It’s comfortable and discreet enough that I forget it’s there. The only drawback is that occasionally the grip catches on a piece of furniture as I sit down, etc. It could stand to be rotated in more closely to the belt, but I also think much of that could be my anatomy - the small of my back is very hollow - my spine curves forward quite a bit around my belt line.

If you're interested in horizontal carry, there are simple options that work pretty well. Half Face ships these straps that snap onto the rivets. Works fine.

Wish there was a description about that knife. On some of the other pictures there was a short note about things.

Finished up this mushroom knife yesterday. Just in time for the season! The blade is mosaic Damascus and the handle is a piece of stabilized cedar burl. For those who aren’t familiar with mushroom hunting, the bright yellow lanyard is pretty important for its help in not losing the knife in the dimly lit woods where you are scrambling around under the ferns and brush.IMG_0484.jpgIMG_0485.jpgIMG_0487.jpgIMG_0488.jpg

Mushroom hunting is a really perfect activity for old people like me. You wander around in the woods, peaceful and relaxed. Usually you come home with food and make a stroganoff or pizza! I will post some pictures in a few weeks, after the bloom starts. That is usually about a week after the first 2”+ rain, in the fall. Rain is in the forecast right now, for the next week.
