For a long time now my seatbelt light will randomly flash even when I'm buckled up and there is nothing in the passenger seat to trigger that sensor. If I shift my weight around in the seat the light will stop.

I'm assuming this means something is wrong with the driver side female buckle Should I just keep ignoring it?

IIRC, 1GTs are like most vehicles, where the safety sensor is grounded near the base of the buckle. You may just need to clean the ground.

But given what you said before:

Have you tried something simple, like drenching the buckle with CRC contact cleaner, and working the buckle in/out. Maybe someone spilled something in there, and the contacts are gummed up? I wouldn't be surprised if it's the case.

Had same issue last year and had some MAF CRC cleaner. Few shots in there while pushing in and out on the receptacle red PRESS button, cleared it up for awhile. Then chose to buy drvr and pass side receptacle from McGeorge if for no other reason than the red PRESS button was ugly after 20 years :)

According to McGeorge, same part # I bought fits your 2002 also, just have to figure out last 2 digits for your color, mine is E0 light tan.

The circuit is simple in that the Combination meter is looking for a gnd.

    C/TR = Color/Trim
    Color = 056=White(color of truck)
Trim = FE11=F means fabric, E(not 100% sure, some say 2nd letter denotes bench, captain etc, others say fabric pattern and 11 is in grey family, supposed to mean light grey(MD Charcoal), 12 should be dark grey
Definitely check with dealer or check with McGeorge via the order supplying VIN.

What color do you feel the female seat belt receptacle is ?

    They call this Oak...

I’ve got the same problem, I’m sure it’s just gummed up (pretty sure a honey roasted peanut went in there…).
I haven’t tried any of these fixes, but I’m considering just removing the bulb from the cluster :) I don’t need it, and I need to replace a bulb in the cluster anyway.
Is there any reason not to do this that anyone can think of?

I can't imagine there is an issue with removing the bulb but I've been wondering how "smart" our seatbelts are. I could be wrong but I thought they are designed to lock during a crash. If the light is on or flashing, would that change anything? No clue.

I know for the actual seat belt you can't have them shipped to your house. It's considered hazmat so they make you pick them up from a dealer. Not sure what makes it hazmat.

Edit to add this from Google. "In the unfortunate event of a collision, seatbelts help protect the occupants from injury, but what can be seen on the surface is just the beginning. During a collision, the airbag computer initiates the seatbelt igniter to ignite, activating the seatbelts and locking them".

Medium gray shows up as "Trim 12" and is 73230-0C030-B4. Medium charcoal is "Trim 11" and is 73230-0C030-B3.

And as confusing as it is, B3 and B4 appear to be no longer available; both part numbers show as a supersession to "E1" which is oak. The gray parts may no longer be available from Toyota directly...

I'd be going to the store for some cleaner. Although honestly, if you have a can of Triflow hanging around, it may work also. I just like contact cleaner because it doesn't leave residue downstream. Dilute alcohol may work also.

Toyota strikes again! You'd think being safety related they would keep making these.

They do keep making them. Just in the wrong color. Toyota only needs to guarantee function, if they need to guarantee anything at all.

Of the 2 greys you have, is that the lighter or darker of the 2. The below is what the 2002 brochure said came eith yours as far as trim.

    IMG_5105.jpg

Thanks for fabric shot also. I will add it to my list of trim codes, in particular the FE part, in search of what Toyota means by 2nd alpha character.
Remind me what kind of front seat you have….bench, 60/40 etc

Also, the picture shown of seat belt above is not yours as it mentions “Trim12” unless it’s the darker of the 2 greys you have

Correct, here's the one saying Trim11. Note also in the last pic, this p/n is also listed as a supersession:

I believe our FGT have only an inertial reel on the seatbelt and no pyrotechnics. At least on my 2000 the seatbelt light on the cluster flashes whenever the key is turned to ignition and the driver seat buckle is not latched regardless of weight on the seat. The paasenger side seatbelt light in the center dash only illuminates when there is weight on the passenger seat and pax buckle is not latched. It’s just a simple switch in the buckle

Do our trucks have the “fail safe burnt-out idiot light” chime that some cars have if the idiot light bulb burns out? When I bought my 99 Ranger off my grandma, she said, “yeah it has beeped in this weird pattern for the last ten years but I just ignored it”—that was the burnt-out airbag light’s backup warning. (Chime beeped in the same pattern as the light blinked, trying to tell you what to fix!)

That bulb got replaced quickly. do our trucks do that?

My truck has oak interior. When searching wrecking yards sometime gray and oak are hard to tell apart after a few years. There is another thread on this forum where someone used grey vinyl spray paint to change interior parts from oak to gray.

I have an ancient can of radio shack contact cleaner/lubricant designed electromechanical switches and parts. My dad bought it in the 60s for his old tuner TV but I use it for switches that quit working and volume knobs that get staticky

Boy ain’t that the dadgum truth! The photos on car-part.com aren’t much help either, you almost have to lay eyes on it to tell. Have wasted some trips, for sure.

Well they are considered hazmat and you can only pick them up at a dealership. I assumed because of the charge inside. That's according to some people on the Best Gen Facebook page recently.~$220 for a new seat belt reel.

Not the best lighting in my garage but it's definitely gray. So, we concluded they don't offer a seatbelt in gray anymore? Or we're not sure?

From what I'm seeing, no. You get tan, or you hit the junkyard.

Get some contact cleaner, or if you have MAF cleaner that should work also. Shoot some in the hole, and work the button fervently, 100-150 count of push in/out.

IMHO that just relates to the fact B2, B3, B4 are no longer available, so they say.
On that point, the Parts Mgr in Jackson I deal with has told me to always give him a call on anything I'm looking for that might say dis-continued.
He says it's not always 100% true just because we see discontinued.
