I have a lifted tundra on 37s. Bought it this way. Have broken three lower ball joints. This last time they only lasted about 2 months. Each time one broke I had replaced all 4. Was wondering if anyone has some knowledge or can point me in the rite direction on how to fix this issue. Was thinking aftermarket control arms and going down to 35s

I had replaced them with oe replacement ball joints. Not the best quality but definitely should have had more than two months on them. Also what parts of suspension?

Do you have a bracket lift? Doesn’t seem like it.

That's what the BDS gives you to attach to the bottom of the shock there. For the lift kit. Note I had bought the truck prelifted already, and I'm fairly new to the game

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

That would be a fucked up cheap strut/shock extender. Basically a big ass spacer on the bottom of the shock rather than the top, which will throw the geometry all out of whack and break shit, as the OP is finding out.

Just say no to spacer lifts of any kind.

Hmmm, you can't buy OEM balljoints though, Toyota only sells them as part of the lower control arm, do they not?

If you're throwing Moog, Duralast or whatnot, that might be part of the issue. I heard some of the ACDelco stuff still made in Japan was good, or Beck/Arnley - but I haven't done mine yet. I'd like to - my front passenger side started oozing recently as well, but was told if there's no play in it, not to worry too much about it just yet, it's not a first gen.

    1. Get rid of the lift and get shocks/coilovers that provide a proper lift, and UCAs if going over 3 inches.

    2. Don't buy any LBJs not made in Japan. Toyota doesn't sell LBJs for our trucks outright, so unless you want to get complete LCAs buy Japanese made AC Delco or Beck Arnley or Sankei 555 LBJs.

And what do you mean by broken? Has play in it, the stud popped out of the joint, the stud broke?

Ok so you've got a bracket lift, which rules out extreme angles that would cause binding, but somehow it's happening. What is the truck doing when the LBJ breaks? Dipping into a pothole? Going over something big?

When the lower ball joints break, it's when I'm in reverse and start turning the wheel. Coming out of parking spot

And by broken, I mean the shank completely breaks off, leaving part of the joint in the control arm and the shank and bolt still in knuckle

Does the passenger side have this piece of metal welded on? It's designed to keep you from overturning.

Yes, both sides have those aftermarket knuckles. I believe they came with the lift kit

I'm talking about the extra piece of steel that was welded onto the knuckle. It's a stopper that butts up against the LCA to prevent you from turning the steering wheel any further.

EDIT: The extra piece of steel is welded on during the installation

Honestly not sure, I did not install, I'm leaning towards factory because the lift kit that was put on the truck uses the factory arms I believe

Maybe they're not, and that's what's causing them to break?
