I'm sure someone here can help with this problem. Pro -tip, set the "Home" to a neighbors house nearby and not your actual residence.

I was mainly going with the garage door opener aspect, but OK.

I would agree that setting your 'home' address to your actual address isn't smart. We have ours set to a business address near the entrance to our neighborhood.

    .
Do you also black out the address on your car registration? If not, setting the address somewhere else won't make a difference (many registrations have a bar code w this info too, that is fairly easy to read/decode.

Great point. I put the registration in an inconspicuous place rather than the glove box. Nothing is foolproof, but every little bit helps (situational awareness, keeping garage door into the home locked, security systems, guns, ammo, etc.).

You have to do it in the app but it is not where you think. Your address is in 2 places, one is obvious and the other not so much and of course the obvious one doesn't do it.

One address is under your profile. If you click the icon on the top right (looks like head & shoulders) it will take you to your Profile page. Then you click the "Account" button below your name. This takes you to the "Account Settings" page. Then under "Personal Info > Home Address" you can set your address. This one does NOT set your home address in Navigation.

To set Navigation you have to do it under the Find page. Along the bottom of the app it is farthest icon to the right. Click "Find:. Then click on the "Destinations" banner under the heart icon. Here you can set Home, Work and other favorites. Once set you can send them to the vehicle. Once done they will be active in your Navigation app in the head unit.

Stupid, non-intuitive place to do it IMHO but it is what it is. Hope this helps.

A great tip is to use smart plugs on your opener and use an app to set a timer. My garage won't open overnight unless I turn on the plug in the app. I have it timed to turn on when we typically leave in the morning. Too easy to forget to hit the garage lock button at night.

Garage break-ins are becoming very common where I live and the police don't even show up to take a report.

I like the smart plug idea. No power = no open!

I don't understand the home and using your address.
The thought being someone is going to steal your vehicle then go to your house ?
That would solve several logistics issues for me and the cops when I check their location on the app.

But if you think bad things are going to happen it's pretty gross to use your neighbor's address without their consent.

If someone steals the car, or it's valet or whatever, they can always just look for your registration, which also has your address on it.

Umm. am I the only one that keeps the car reg in the vehicle just in case I get pulled over or in an accident? That has your address anyway, so they will still figure out where you live!!

I have the home address set to a park in my neighbourhood. I use it when I’m in an unfamiliar place and I want the best way home so I say “hey Toyota take me home” and when I know where Iam I turn it off, it’s really great.
