I am trying to blackout my magnetic gray metallic tundra, but am trying to find cheaper options other than buying all of the pieces to replace the chrome. I have heard of plastidip and that it is extremely durable. Does anyone have any experience with plastidip? If so what color should I use to match magnetic gray metallic?

Plastidip will flake and look like crap quickly. Buy the parts and don’t look back

I've had good luck with the durability of plasti dip. I used it on a bull bar setup from one 2.5 to another. The part was faded and had some signs of surface rust or discoloration so it didn't look good on a brand new truck. The plasti dip made it look brand new and it held up just fine. I was concerned since it was right on the front of the truck, but it wasn't an issue.

I used plastidip a lot on my 4runner and never had any problem with durability. Would have to touch up maybe once a year but all in all it was pretty durable……and much cheaper than ordering new parts.

I find Plastidip to be very durable. I used it on a lot of my old Explorer even the rims. I found if I started with 2 light coats and then got heavier until I got the look I wanted and also do more than you think you need it will look great and last a longtime. The other key is proper preparation is key. Go to plastidip.com and watch some of their videos. Hope this helps

    ^^^^^this is the way

don’t try to cover the entire area on the first pass. Do multiple coats in even sweeping motions. They sell a trigger attachment that makes it very easy to control. I suggest getting that and following Ben’s advice.
