I've heard some good things about the dasaita 13.3 head units. would be a couple hundred more than that head unit though.

I am with him on that, not sure on your brand, but I run a Dasaita in my 4runner and it is a solid unit. Android auto and Apple Car play works great.

Does the Dasaita track mileage and have a maintenance reminder app similar to the stock head unit?

The maintenance scheduling and Sirius XM are the reasons I haven't done this yet in my 4runner, but I finally got tired of calling every 6 months to get a reasonable price with Sirius and just stopped subscribing so it's not a thing anymore.

    Don't mean to thread hijack..

I've had the Dasaita Max10 PX6 in my 08 Sequoia for 2.5 years. Love the HU but it can be quirky. I recently lost the display in that everything works but there is no display. I got tired of running audio from my phone to my HU so I put a few feelers out on the Dasaita forum page and received a little help but not enough to get it working again. They sent me a link to a new G12 model that is Qualcomm 665 w/ QLED screen. I'll probably go for that one w/ the 8% discount they gave me but I'd really like to purchase from Amazon where you can get an extended warranty thru Asurion. Luckily I did that originally so I got my $549 back in the form on an Amazon gift card - another reason I'd like to purchase from Amazon.

Also, if you don't know already there is a HUGE thread on this HU. 77 pages of experiences and support of one another who purchased the HU. Give it a look if you haven't already:

As stated above, the Dasaita's are good and Joying's are supposed to be decent. Both are the "high end chinesium". I've personally tried several of the cheaper chinesium ones like the one you have linked. All functioned decently, and they are getting better with time. Audio performance was ok, although I can't judge that fairly because not one of the Chinese units I've tried has yet to play nicely with my cursed JBL wiring (front door speakers never work right even with their JBL adaptors). One day I'll get around to getting Maestro... Only con I've consistently ran into (besides JBL compatability) is that the FM reception never seems to be as good as the OEM I had. I live in the mountains and reception is a pain. I sold a couple of my experiments to other Tundie owners and they said the reception was good in their urban areas.

As for the one you have linked, I will tell you that it is outdated and overpriced. I just ordered a 4+64 octa for less.

There is so much wrong with that statement lol, unless you are saying Sony is manufacturing their head units in Shenzhen now and to be fair, that very well could be. 95% if not more of these android tablet headunits are made in China, mostly Shenzhen. Look at the name of the seller of the head unit you have linked. Just FYI, even reputable domestic/Japanese brands manufacture some of their head units in China.

Thanks for sharing. I've been under the impression that the Dasaita and Joying units are the best and the others are far inferior. Is that not correct?

I haven't personally tried a Dasaita or Joying yet (not ready to spend that much on a head unit, although I've spent that much total on playing with different cheaper ones :() so I can't offer a experienced opinion. From my research, I'd say that yes, they are the best of the Chinesium market head units. Dasaita in particular is obviously a tier above the rest when you analyze the photographs of build quality and design. Apparently they also have good product support and software updates, but again I can't verify.

Thing is at their price range, you are almost getting into decent domestic brand territory. The android base for the head unit is a leg up over domestic brands since they don't use proprietary operating systems, giving you far more customization and flexibility.

Shenzhen is probably the world capitol for electronic counterfeits and ip/patent theft. The good ones steal their designs from successful innovators and make some tweaks. The others steal from them and each other lol. It's a different culture.

One of the reasons I've been trying various cheaper head units is to find the higher quality alternatives to Dasaita/domestic. From what I've seen so far, they are all functionally basically the same. You are paying more for Dasaita (and possibly Joying, less info available) for product/customer/software support and what appears to be better overall hardware. If you've got the cash, get the Dasaita, if you've got even more cash buy domestic/Japanese (I've been an Alpine whore since the 90s).

Additional note. All the cheapo Chinese head units I've tried so far have worked just fine. Sound fine so far too, although my old ass ears aren't as good as they used to be. Until I do something about this godforsaken JBL wiring in my Tundie I wont be able to offer an in-depth opinion on overall sound quality.

SnL also had a sony guts skit years and years ago as well. My friends and i make the joke about it quite frequently if anything breaks down (audio equipment, cars, trucks, shoe laces, basketball, ect).

I'll probably stick w/ somebody w/ a US storefront. Not sure I want to deal w/ AliExpress for something like this.

I've had decent luck with AliExpress, communication with seller/factory can be difficult. Even done ok with Alibaba where even better deals can be had, but the whole import/shipping thing can definitely be intimidating. So I agree, easier to spend a few extra dollars and buy off an ebay/scamazon storefront from someone who's bought a bulk load off ali-baba.

I literally just installed that AWESAFE unit and it’s a huge upgrade to the stock unit in terms of sound and features. Factory rear camera, radio, bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and steering controls all work. The only problem I’m experiencing is not having sound come out the rear speakers. I’m going to double check the aux connections tomorrow to try and figure out what’s going on.

But honestly, best $125 I’ve spent so far on the Sequndra lol.

FYI I purchased this based on suggestions from the Facebook “2nd gen Sequoia” group. They all seem to use Joying, Daisata, or this new Awesafe unit. Most reviews are positive, some have issues with RES (I don’t have RES anyway) and some seem to just have installed it wrong.

I’ll try and update this post asap

Any tips or tricks? Mine has been the biggest POS since installing it. Can tell if speakers are out of phase or WTF is going on. Just doesn't sound good.

Hmm I'm not sure then. I was going to suggest grabbing the JBL harness, but if you don't have JBL and it sounds like poop I'm not sure what to say..

Which is odd because the sound on my 2008 Sequoia Limited with JBL sounds significantly better with this head unit. But that was after tweaking the EQ quite a bit in the DSP menu.

On the head unit go to the menus and one of them says DSP. From there you can adjust your EQ.

Would you mind posting a picture of your DSP settings? I have it installed on a 2015 sequoia limited with jbl and it sounds like we are underwater. I did adjust the amp down to 60 adn that helped, but still sounds muffled.

I dont have your HU, but i do have Dasaita.

Look at your harness and see if there is another CAM-IN connector. On mine i have two and they are yellow.

If you do, switch the camera RCA to the other input, see if that fixes it.
Disconnect the neg- cable first, just to be safe.
