Yes. No need to remove it to access the drain plug.

Filter is easy to reach from the top side. IIRC.

The 2UZ may be different. On my 5VZ, I can finagle my arm up in there to access the filter from the bottom. It doesn't sit directly over the skid plate so if I lose oil, it's not going to get on the top of the plate.

Did plugs today. I’m pretty sure they were the originals, after 158k miles they were overdue. Seems to run a little better.

Na, not at all. I used to put some old rags or if I had some a piece of old carpet under the filter on the skid and was pretty good at getting it off with minimal spillage. Much quicker than screwing with the skid.

You can do it from above with some hand yoga moves, also a half gal milk jug cut and capped can catch all the drips and majority of the fluid.

I like to hit it from the side.....

But even with Skid Row I still make a little mess removing the filter.

Either the 2UZ has a different skid than the 5VZ or my 00 has a different skid than your 02.

Skid Row is an aftermarket skid plate company. That's what I have and that's why I'm able to access the filter from the side.

Weirdest thing happened yesterday night. I was headed into a pretty strong headwind while going uphill, and had to keep my foot on the pedal to maintain 60. Within the course of about a mile, I watched my fuel gauge drop from approximately halfway down to under a 1/3 of a tank, and bounce around a little. It stayed there for a bit until I got out of the RPMs/ wind, then it returned back up to just under halfway.

I washed it yesterday. Ended up buffing out some scratches from where the fender flares used to contact the paint, pretty happy that most of the scratches there came out :D

About 3 years ago headed to work one morning going up I77 north at about 70mph my gauge slowly dropped from 3/4 down to 1/4. I had to pull off and check to ensure I didn't have a massive fuel leak. After I found no leak I continued on and the gauge sat at a 1/4 for about 5 miles and then righted itself. I’ve never seen it so that again.

Yeah, I thought I had a massive fuel leak too, but had nowhere safe to pull off and get back on. Think my truck just really wanted to let me know I was probably getting 6-8mpg at best...

Yeah that's an option if I could make it look halfway decent.
Hard to say where it's coming from, I probably would have not even worried about it if I knew about the shipping charge before hand. Just didn't really think much of it.

This is conflicting, I had never heard anyone call it that until the last couple years and very rarely at that.
I stick a doubled grocery bag under the filter and spin it off and let it drain. Worked for me the last couple times.

Dad used to squeeze 12mpg out of a Dodge powered 28' brick-shaped class-A RV. Probably not when we were in the Rockies though. LOL
