Thanks! I didn't see that on Sony’s website. I’m still trying to decide on the floating display. It kinda looks too unfinished and a dust catch looking from the sides.

How are you guys enjoying this unit now that you have had several weeks with it? I just placed my order through Crutchfield and look forward to installing it next week. I have a 14' Crewmax with the JBL system and for the past 6-years have wanted to upgrade the system. It's been horrible. After this, I plan to replace the speakers, amp and add a DSP.

Going to have to say I absolutely love this deck. Wish there was a screen mirroring but the wifi android auto is flawless. The USB C works great for charging at 3.0 amps and android auto. The thing that I am most impressed about is How amazing the sound quality is. I didn't replace any speakers on my 18 CM NON JBL Amped system and was completely blown away. Really kick up the Highs, mids and wow the lows for the stock speakers. If you are good with setting up the equalizer or are in need of the built in cross over there are so many options, settings, etc. Screen is huge, crystal clear, and so responsive. You are going to love it.

Thanks for the feedback. The only thing I didn't order was the USB-C cable. I should probably go on Amazon and do that. Do you have plans to replace your speakers? It sounds like you are content after replacing the deck.

I have a Samsung S21 Ultra so I have the USB C TO USB C laying around all over the place.

I am going to upgrade but it's not need as much now. I did by some DS18 tweeters for the dash that I'm going to drop in.

DS18 PRO-ST 1.9" Replacement Upgrade Bullet Compression Tweeters with Crossovers- Car OEM Tweeter Upgrade Kit for Many Subaru/Toyota Models - Replacement for H631SFJ101 and H631SFJ100 (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HVCQZXF?_encoding=UTF8

Also looking at these 3way components from DS18 for the front door and their 2 way for the rear. Just need to find a good amp first.

    https://ds18.com/collections/car-au...lity-component-speaker-system-580-watts-4-ohm

If could really make the JBL come alive.

I do get crackling during phone calls from the front speaker. On the Sony HU you can swap to the rear speakers and it comes though just rear doors. Did have that issue on the stock HU so got to figure that out. It's only with phone calls too. Tore it apart and tested it while out and didn't get the crackling when HU was pulled from the dash. Makes me think there is a pinched/pulled wire in there when I push everything back in.

Goon do you recall what RCAs you have to connect and to what outputs on the Sony to get the speakers to work?

I only hear my tweeters, which makes sense since it runs off the head unit but I’m trying to figure out which RCA s for the JBL system. I have the white plug from the harness connected to the Front L output from the Sony and the grey plug to the Front R output on the Sony but still have no sound.

    Thank you.

Not sure if the link will work so here was some stuff crutchfield sent me. But I also didn't wire it. I paid 25 to crutchfield to save the headache.

Thanks for the reply. I too had Crutchfield wire up the harness and have everything you purchased. In addition to not having any speakers other than the tweeters working, the backup camera doesn't work. I used the yellow RCA from the harness and connected it to the RCA coming out of the Sony. I believe there is a stand-alone wire for this from one of the kits. IIRC I had one wire that looked like it was routed towards the center channel, may have been the factory GPS connector, not connected to anything along, another similar plug which might be for the USB, and one white plug from the factory wiring may be the am/fm wiring. I am going to try and figure this out today and if I continue to have problems I will either make a new post (so I don't booger up this thread) or call Crutchfield. I'm sure I'm just having a blonde moment... :)

Any chance you wear polarized sunglasses? If so, how does the screen look from normal driving angles with polarized glasses. I put a Kenwood dmx907 in my wifes suv and i cant see the screen worth a darn with my fishing glasses on, take them off and it clears right up.

I have polarized Spy sunglasses and do not have any issues. I can also adjust the Maestro input levels for brightness. It also auto switches modes when lights are turned on or off automatically or manually.

I know there were some functions removed if you didn't get the USB adaptor for the Maestro. Like if I use anything on android auto it says incoming call.

I would double check the connections on the Maestro RR. If I remember correctly there are two sides that one connector fits in both. Also recommend checking the program file that you have is correct. I was going to pull mine back out this weekend to see if I can figure out the in call crackling sound issue.

Don't worry about starting a new one , I think this is a perfect place for it. One stop shop for the Sony XAV-9500ES HU.

Heard Crutchfield has a great tech support.

Sounds good - Offical XAV-9500es HU thread it is =)

I got the backup camera working.

I noticed that the one plug on the RR could go either way, but I believe I have it installed on the correct side. IIRC one plug went on one side, and three on the other. Still, it may be worth comparing both sides.

I spoke with Crutchfield's phone support and they stated that I had everything hooked up correctly. The tech did ask that I hook up my multimeter to the ready harness to verify the amp is getting power. Of course, on that day I couldn't find my multimeter. I ended up just bolting it all back in for now. After all, the front speakers powered by the Sony sound better than everything else hooked up ever did.

The only complaint about the Sony I have (so far) is that the backup camera display seems to have noise in the picture. It's not as clear as the factory JBL hu.

I agree with crutchfield I would check the blue/white wire that is connected to the HU for Amp trigger/turn on.

I feel the video is distorted because the display is a lot larger. I think the quality of the picture from the camera is not that good vs noise interference. If it was you would most likely see motion in the screen like an old tube TV.

Hey all, I have a question. I installed this unit in my 2016 Sequoia Limited w/JBL. It’s amazing and almost everything works flawlessly. The one issue is an important one, calls sound comes from one speaker; front passenger side dash. My son is an audio engineer and messed with every setting. We narrowed it down to a setting that keeps the audio up front but only allows you to select drivers or passenger side audio, not both. Something has to be off because the sound quality sucks, I can’t imagine this is how it’s suppose to be.

I bought the pre wired Crutchfield harness and triple checked all the evening. Everything else sounds great and no other issues.

I called Maestro and Sony, neither was of much help. Sony wants to swap the radio!

I’m considering one of two options. Swap the JBL amp, Crutchfield seems to think that’s the issue or follow someone else’s suggestion from here and take it to BestBuy.

One thought my son had, Sony limited call audio to one speaker to lessen the likely hood of that double audio feed back that comes from some calls.

    @Pancho
Did you ever get this figured out?

I know voice/phone calls come out of all the front speakers on the dash and the front doors. Changing it to Rear it comes out the rear doors.
I am factory non JBL amped so I know does make a difference
Only issue I have is when I speak to my wife or someone with a high pitched voice I get crackling. If I am speaking to the same person and they are connected to their car talking through their vehicle the crackling goes away.

More of an update to HU operation, unit is still producing bad ass sound quality. Android auto works great, sometimes it's difficult to get itnto connect. I know there is a new firmware/software update that I need to do but just haven't done it. I want new amp and speaks to really see what it's like. I did blow rear passenger door so there's an excuse for new ones.

I want to try DX18 they make a 6 1/2 3way components set that I want for the front then get their 2-way for the rear.

    @Goonrideit

    somewhat.

i couldn’t get the 9500ES Bluetooth calls to come out of all the front speakers, calls only came out of one or the other front dash speakers. I experienced the same crackling others have complained about. channeling calls through that one speaker ended up blowing it.

I ended up ordering a Alpine Halo iLX F511. My son and I installed it a few days ago. Had the issue of the unit not holding/saving the fade setting. I ended up taking it to a stereo shop so they could install an amp to correct the fade issue. After the amp install, everything finally works perfect. I had the stereo shop also install new dash speakers as I blew the one speaker with the phone calls.

The 511 compared to the 9500ES. The calls on the 511 are amazingly clear, I like the HDMI input, color 11inch screen is nice. Cons; sounds sucks compared to the ES. I like turning off the screen of the ES, the 511 screen doesn’t dim enough at night, to bright. The narrower black trim around the 511 looks way better than the ES, but the ES screen appears to be higher quality.

Here’s the plan, this weekend my son and I may go back to the ES as now I have a new amp installed which may correct the calls coming from one speaker. Maybe! I’ve been through three different radios in the last few months. Im so over installing radios.

Dang @Pancho that sucks you had to get rid of it. I truly think the sound quality on this thing is incredible. It might be it puts out to clear of sound that the stock speakers or something can't handle it.

On the Dimming not sure if the 511 has Maestro interface options but, on the ES I can increase or decrease the Maestro interface sensitivity. Which then would increase or decrease the screen brightenss when the lights were on you can adjust by using the dash adjustment for cabin lights and the Mastro reacts to the adjustment.

Hoping someone can help me out here since I haven’t seen my particular issue in the thread (I very well could have missed it).

I just got my 9500ES installed in my 21 Platinum today & appear to no longer have my hotspot wifi that I had with the JBL.

Anyone know the fix? Appreciate any insights you have. Thanks.

Not sure mines an '18. Probably an extra harness or the module was located in the stock head unit.

If you bought it from Crutchfield you could message/call them and ask.

    Update,

    I installed the DS18 TWEETERS

DS18 PRO-ST 1.9" Replacement Upgrade Bullet Compression Tweeters with Crossovers- Car OEM Tweeter Upgrade Kit for Many Subaru/Toyota Models - Replacement for H631SFJ101 and H631SFJ100 (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HVCQZXF

In the front left and right corners, these really woke up the highs inside!

Very simple install fit perfect and they are basically plug and play. Just have to snip off a piece of the connector on the truck side. As shown, used a Razor and scored them on all 4 sides then a pliers to snip them off.

Added this to my 2018 Tundra. With the Maestro hook ups I was able to use all the factor settings and antennas without having to use the ones that came with the unit. Only issue was the mic but after removing the factory mic I was able to fit the Sony mic into the same spot. Used a mount from trailgridpro.com If you are looking to get a new CarPlay head unit with a big display check them out! Have the package set up for your truck made for easy install.

Also if you are looking to screen mirror and watch Netflix or whatever else you have on your phone I found a way to do it. Not super Hd quality, but good enough to watch videos or football.

First you need to get a HDMI to RCA converter that is powered by USB. Route the yellow video in to one of the extra camera spots for the head unit. Then you have to get creative with routing the hdmi and USB power cords.

Once it’s all connected use the Apple adaptor for hdmi to lighting or USB C to connect your phone. Select the Bluetooth option for sound and then select the camera input you connected the video input to. Now you should see you phone mirrored and once you start a video the sound will play also through the Bluetooth.

Hope this works well for you guys.

For SiriusXm, GPS, mic and all factor settings get the unit from trailgridpro.com
Got mine through them and it was all set up for straight plug and play with minor modification and kept all factory settings.

Thinking about doing this for my 9500es. Do you have a link to what adapter you ended up using? Is there audio delay because is it bluetooth?

    Thanks!

Did you have any issues with sound coming from the subwoofer? I am getting nothing out of mine. Have the maestro setup from trailgridpro and for some reason even after doing a reload on the maestro for the JBL system with amp I am still not getting sound from the subwoofer. Any ideas or fixes from anyone? Thanks
