Spoke to the shop. He said the reason the truck was probably stalling after starting is because it's missing the two front intake manifold bolts, and sucking air. Fair enough. I wasn't exactly taking my time removing the supercharger and reinstalling everything. I did drive it to and from the previous shop, but I guess the ecu finally caught up.

He said 90% of the parts are on their way in. And he's going to send the 22" TRD Forged rim off to be refurbished, if possible. If not will get back with me for that correct part number to order a new one. Tbh, I'm fine with them doing a refurb if they can, loads cheaper.

Didn't get any ETA though. That's on me, forgot to ask.

Can’t believe they didn’t total that truck. All the best on the final outcome?

IKR! Well, now that it seems it's not getting totaled, it is definitely getting sold. I did one of those KBB instant trade-in offers last month or longer ago and it was $52k. Hopefully when I get the truck back, it's still at least $50k...if it is, I'm taking it straight to the dealer for a check.

The truck only just rolled over 10k miles before it went into the last shop.

Shop said truck was in the paint shop for the doors and side panels. They're still working on the bed. Said eta end of next week or two. And said the cost should be right about what insurance already adjusted for, around $15k.

If anyone is looking for a truck, I'm selling it for $50k on private market. KBB Instant Trade-in is at $48k, have dealers lined up asking me for it already.

Let one of the dealers have it. No offense, but the history on this one is what everyone is watching out for. Previous motors and suspension mods of prior owners taste, some still there, some reversed in haste. Previous major accident with panel replacement and repaint. Most just want one owner unmolested stock.

... we used CarMax about 18 months ago (they were the highest at the time in the PNW) when we sold the wife's pilot; they gave us exactly what the online quote for the vehicle was, and at the time it was a very fair price; plus in and out of there in under 1 hour.

it's my understanding that they've dialed their offers back quite a bit, but either way if you can off it using something similar it's definitely the way to go

we have several Toyota Autonations around me. Plan is to sell it outright, and I've been looking at salvage Rav4 hybrids on copart. Still not sure exactly what I'll end up with. Goal is AWD and 30-40 mpg

Doesn't have to be a Toyota dealer. I started the process at a Chrysler dealer because they had a Sequoia. The site offered 2k more than the next one and 5k more than Carvana.

I ended up with a dealer in Corpus Christi who honored the deal. I did the swap at a AN in Tempe, don't remember what their primary company was.

when I did KBB Instant Offer a few weeks ago the price was dropped to $46k, and one dealer emailed an $48k offer. Which I think I can get that price up to $50k if I shop around dealers wanting to buy the truck

I would have asked what it costs to buy that Subaru back from insurance. Absolutely nothing wrong with it other than cosmetics. We had a Corolla totalled by hail in 2011. I bought it back from State Farm for around $1,100 and drove it another 7 years. Sold it for $1,600. One of the best decisions I ever made. We named her Hailey.

In your situation I would have done something similar. Had this been our Lexus, that's exactly what we would have done.

We paid 22700, wrote a check for it in 2018. Insurance paid out 20000 in 2023. Salvage rights would have been almost 7000.00. We drove the vehicle for 5 years and 85K miles. Wife had 5 years left for retirement and recently started a new position and longer drive. I estimated the next 5 years would be 90-105K additional miles. Even if there were no mechanical failures with 180-200K miles, we would have needed to replace some panels/parts on the vehicle to make it driveable. Hood, 1 tail light/ 2 headlights, and not sure the windows would have sealed up due to the major dents by seals. The Subaru had very noticeable wind noise driving due to the location of damage. New windshield was needed as well.

    20000-7000=13000 to us.

New windshield 900.00 (yes they are expensive).
    New hood painted 665.00
    Headlights 328.00
    Taillight 100.00

Vehicle now has a salvage title. Nothing but liability insurance.

Damages were so severe that it cracked the paint in all the panels of the Subaru. This is a rust concern.

Now if all else is good and just deal with the constant whistling and wind noise we would be into this salvaged title vehicle for 9000.00. With the drivers in Colorado and lack of insurance, I'm not going to risk driving this thing around.

Her 2018 Crosstrek has already been in a significant accident 6 months after we purchased it. Some lady decided she needed to slide her car into the side of my wifes parked SUV and damage from the front headlight all the way down to the tail light. This was a 9000.00 damage estimate and pulled up on a carfax. Another ding on trying to sell the 2018 later on.

We took the payout and purchased a 22 Subaru Limited Crosstrek which will get my wife through retirement and not driving a golf ball around. The limited and newer model year is a very nice vehicle and made a bunch of changes to fix the screw ups from the 2018 purchase. (bigger motor, better features and leather interior).

What would a 2018 Crosstrek with a vehicle accident, salvage title from hail and high miles sell for at 10 years old? Probable not much. Even more money lost due to the history of the vehicle.

There are a lot of things to consider when keeping a salvage title vehicle. In our case, it just make sense to purchase something else.

Yikes. Given all that info I would have passed too. All we had to replace on the Corolla was the windshield. The hail did crack the paint but I touched it up. She wasn't pretty but she ran well.

We looked at it hard, and that is exactly what my wife wanted to do. Sometimes we just have to level each other out on bad ideas. :D

Besides, we purchased this Subaru through a Cadillac dealership and had some add ons with the purchase. So for two weeks my wife was given a loner...2024 Cadillac XT6 400. She said that was one of the most comfortable 600 miles ever.

Update. Of course I should have put back the stock fuel pump...$1600 dealership diagnosis and replacement. They also replaced the Rack and Pinion under a recall, so no cost there. And they did the ecu flash update.

It's back at the body shop and only thing left is to respray the bed liner. Should be back home end of this week or next. Then it's getting sold immediately to a dealership. When I checked the Buy It Now option a month or so ago it came back with $46k. And I've had several dealers offer me $48k.

    My new project is a 2005 GX470

Spoke with Body Shop and truck is DONE! Props to Prime Time Auto Body in Denver. Owner was pretty cool with me tinkering on the truck to t/s the starting issue while it was up there. And he's giving me a $1500 discount if I can pay in cash. Insurance quoted $14,900 minus my $200 deductible, Prime Time doing it for $13,500. Said he felt bad about me having to pay the dealer $1600 for the fuel pump.

And then he's going to sell me the Quarter Panel and Quarter Extension for my GX470 project at cost, no shipping charges. And shipping charges were $275 at the lowest from anywhere else.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/salvaged-2005-gx470-rebuild.132323/

So this thread will come to a close soon. Only a few steps left before it gets sold off to a dealership. Will keep you posted.

Sad to see an end to this, but glad at least this is coming to an end, nightmare for sure.
And I must have you mixed up with someone, though you had gotten another white Tundra but re-reading this whole thread, nope....

I was thinking to do an RCSB Tundra build, but I sold the s/c and other goodies over the summer. The GX470 (Land Cruiser Prado/4Runner) suits my needs a bit more anyhow. But I don't think I'll ever not have a car project going on!

I would love me a good sized SUV, but I also think I can't give up on a truck, so trusting you will be back in one sooner than later.
