Oh and while we're on the topic ...

Looking at @SateenC1's phone holder in that thread, it reminded me. Work forced me to upgrade iPhones because my 8+ wouldn't upgrade to iOS 17, and we've got a strong leg in the cybersec world and are always worried about security, so they [forcibly] issued me a 14+.

It's just making me realize two things: It's big, feels larger/heavier than my 8+. It supports wireless charging better than my 8+ and I got a case with embedded magnet catch for that purpose. I'd love to be able "dock" it on a magnetic wireless charger and have it sit in front of the ashtray area, angled toward me. Maybe something you could use to add a HaloLock (or Qi) style maglock charging mount onto that would also give some ability to pivot the screen towards you? Maybe it could fit into the ashtray slot like the Scangauge holder like @FiatRunner was recently showing off. Maybe that's what @axtawesomizer needs to be 3d printing the structure for? I just don't want to give up one of my cupholders for a phone mount, nor block one of my vents, and I'd prefer it was up higher and more-forward than the cupholders too. I know, I know. I could just use wired carplay, but ... I find I use use my phone more than CarPlay when we're in either CarPlay-functional vehicles, it's habit.

EDIT!!! This exact mount I'm describing would be awesome for folks who are using Torque Pro on secondary Android devices as an added gauge cluster!!

I think that making a phone mount that fits into the ashtray slot would work great. I was really surprised at how easily something could be made to securely mount something in that area. I think if you found a phone mount that attaches to a surface via screws or adhesive, it would be easy to design and 3D print a bracket that would slide into the ashtray slot and have a place to attach a phone mount. I'm thinking a phone mount like this would work: https://www.amazon.com/Permanent-Screw-Phone-Mount-iPhone/dp/B07MLM88S7

Another bonus with the 3D printed scangauge mount: all of the wires can be hidden in the space where the ashtray once was.

Shifty is this the console in your AC? I have somehow never seen one of these blanks before!!!

    IMG_2094.jpg

That’s what I need to replace the useless side mirror adjustment switch from the Sequoia console I put in my AC.

I didn’t mind the spiker scangauge mount, felt like it was a good spot. Not sure the ashtray is decent line of sight.

for phone, I prefer wireless CarPlay. What are you guys displaying on the phone while driving? I have a DMM in the ‘16 but I don’t ever put the phone on it so it’s mostly useless.

Well, I also have a new and much larger phone (Samsung Z Fold) that required a larger holder. The holder I had previously, clipped to the vent blades. This was not very effective for a number of reasons. I have a ProClip in my car that clamps to the side of the console. This makes for a very solid and adjustable mount. I got the small tablet holder for my ZFold which measures 7.6". ProClip is on the spendy side but was worth it to me. They have many options for many phones and, they're metal not plastic. You can check them out at www.proclipusa.com. Here's a couple pics in the car and truck.20231111_093754.jpg 20231111_094023.jpg 20231111_094148.jpg

Did my first oil change since I got the truck back in the summer. Swapped in an OEM oil and air filter. Found a good bit of oily mud on the topside of the skid plate, but it lined up pretty well with someone doing a sloppy job on swapping the oil filter in the past so I’m gonna chalk it up to that.

Whelp I performed a colonoscopy on my baby. The entire fuel filler neck was clean as a whistle. This pic is the entry into the tank I believe. I had almost 4 feet of camera line into the fuel filler by this point. No obstructions. I could feel that little flap move as I poked at it with the camera end. I think the pump clicking off may have just been a fluke? I went back to the same store and used a different pump and pumped $20 into the tank at the full speed and the pump never clicked off this time. Anyway here is the pic.

Here is my camera I used.

Replaced the burned-out brake light on the off-brand Tundra. Little success.

I've been sourcing bits from China trying to add in a tailgate handle camera to the truck. Built an adapter/jumper plug using a Molex, some wires & a Sony cable I stole off a $2 Chinese plug. That built, everything in hand I installed the molex into the Nav head unit, Plugged the camera's RCA into the adapter, ran the wire through the back window, across the bed to the tailgate handle laying on the tailgate. Took the power/ground wires from the camera, wired them into a 7-pin, plugged it in to the trailer plug, put the truck in R & WALA! I head a picture of the outbehindthetruck on the head unit. My concept actually F'n worked on the first try. Picture on the head unit seems good, maybe a little dark. Oh, duh - camera still has the blue plastic on the lens! LOL.
    G-damn!
Looks like rain coming, so i'll tear apart the truck to run the wires another day. Gonna suck that I just had the truck WoolWaxed, I'll be coated in the stuff.

    But a project worked.
    1st try.
    Exactly as conceptualized.
    Amazing. Big Success.

All told, I'm at about $50 & including future wire running - about 2 hours to add rear camera to the factory Nav/head unit. Nice.

My eBoy “sandalwood” color-coded cubby came in to replace the Sequoia donor console’s rear climate controls, thirty seconds to swap those out, can’t tell a noticeable difference with my truck’s OEM “oak” interior colors:

It was just a little extra "flair", and at $5 I thought "why not?!"

I honestly didn't like the way it looks in person. It looks like some plastic garbage you'd get out of a 25¢ toy dispenser at K-Mart in the 1980s, for anyone who may remember that. All it is is shit blown plastic, glued to a baseplate, with two nylock nuts sandwiched in.

    Yup, won't do that again...

Trip down south for two nights, with some hunters, I was just hunting for a buzz. Pretty chilly at night/morning, dew on everything right before the sun hit the canyon. There was a 4runner anniversary event just across the highway, so we tootled over there in my buddies 80series. The raffle was for a local charity and the admins brought in over 12k worth of raffle items I won a lil ammo can compressor, a Warn recovery backpack loaded, and a camp table!

their description online seems to suck, but it’s got gloves, a snatch block, some sort of shackles? A regular rope and maybe a kinetic rope

So that's what goes in the little cubby on the center console? Huh. How 'bout that. My mirror controls are on the dash, left of the dimmer. The cubby I use as my chewing gum wrappers tiny trash can. LOL

I have a 2001 AC, so my side mirror controls are on my automatic window control panel on the left armrest; what you're seeing is the location on the 2004 Sequoia I robbed that whole center console from. If you want your mirror controls there, mail me that little gum wrapper cubby and I'll mail you my Sequoia mirror controls!

I bought them on eBay for $30, lol. Utterly frivolous expense but my truck's interior is really nice and the Sequoia console donor truck was a gross coffee-stained and godknowswhatesle shitbox.

I bought mine out of Texas, from eptech: https://www.ebay.com/usr/eptech2003

    Specifically, this item/set: https://www.ebay.com/itm/323809743677

Mine I think ended up with @alb1k, inside the OEM cupholder I shot his way.
