This feels like a dumb question. I'm looking for a second Tundra in the 2016-2021 range, but I'm not entirely familiar with anything newer than 2016. What might I find to love or hate in the last five years of the 2.5 gen?

I know the dashboard layout was updated in 2018, and TSS was introduced in 2018, and the transmission cooler went away in 2019. Was there anything else?

2020 - CarPlay added to radios, and I *think* push-button start that year as well. Unsure what else.

Optimal year (IMO) is 2018. Because it still has the tranny cooler, and can be had with the LED headlamps and adaptive cruise control. Downside... no push button start, or apple car play. And it still retains the old style radio antennae, which may increase radio reception, but is one more thing to stick on the fender. I still like the style of this generation better than the newest version, although the new version is growing on me. And I love the sound, power, and reliability of the V-8. Although, I think the power of the new hybrid would be nice.

Some trim levels are push button, but not all. The SR5 doesn't have it.

    Incorrect sir. :p

Well, partially. The base SR5 doesn't have it...but it comes with either the SR5 Upgrade Package, I believe it is, or the TRD Off-Road Package. I forget which.

In any event, I've got an SR5 with the SR5 Upgrade Package and the TRD Off-Road package, and I do indeed have the push-button start.

2016-2017 - Added 38 gal tank as an option on lower trims, standard on higher. 5.7's got Trailer brake controllers standard. TSS Standard on highest trims.

2018 - TSS standard on all models, no more single cab, gauge changes, LED lights option,

2019 - Removed Trans cooler, added technology to cab.

2020-2021 - 5.7 standard engine for all trims, Added Carplay/Android Auto

Might not be 100% everything or correct.

2020 has Carplay. Not clear any changes occurred for 2021.

Somewhere around 2020-21 I believe the SR5 upgrade got the auto dual zone climate control as well.

my ‘20 has it and push button start, but it’s a Canadian model, so they are a bit weird with the options.

2020 added keyless entry/push button start, shark fin antenna, and CarPlay. The center display got slightly larger with higher resolution but lost the CD player.

2021 (and late 2020 builds) added a bunch of dormant covid germs wherever a factory worker touched or breathed on.

What year did they get rid of the FFV engine? My 2017 was and my 2020 is not.

Pretty sure it was dropped somewhere along the way, I know when I built my 20 online it wasn't an option.

TRD Off Road factory skid plate, if that's what you want to call it, changed at some point. The ears that everyone talks about having to cut actually got cut.

Okay this is all good. In other words, nothing of any
I'm not particularly a fan of push buttons. I look at them as a solution in search of a non existent problem.

Interestingly, a nearby dealership has two 2021 SR5's in stock, both with key ignition.

Thank you for saying that. I had not tripped over any FFV horror stories yet. I'll steer away from any FFV trucks until I know more about them. I'll smoke a turd in hell before I put E85 in any vehicle I own.

According to Toyota (see attached .pdf), 2018 was the first year of TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) for the Tundra. Partial TSS functionality was offered in other Toyota vehicles as far back as 2016.
