So far it seems like we get about the same, maybe a dozen soft freezes. But if it stays frozen the next day, lots of folks around here will burst pipes.

I got all excited about buying truck parts for black friday, i forgot to look at generators. If we lose power for long enough, i might be in trouble.

I don't think it's snowed here since like 2006. Minus the big freeze a few years ago, since that was more like sleet.
We have a Generac that runs on natural gas. That thing is awesome.

I finally ordered a new head unit and speakers, which I've been putting off for four years. The Crutchfield box should be arriving shortly, and I think I'll have time to get it installed the weekend after next.

I will be bypassing the JBL amp in the back, installing new door speakers in all four doors, and replacing the head in my 2006 doublecab. While I've got that all opened up, what and where should I add sound deadening to? I am not looking to go crazy, but what is the bang for the time and effort?

I've never done this before, so I would love suggestions of the proper material, placement, and techniques.

Best bang for buck comes from hitting large flat sections or panels with no structural seams that would otherwise stiffen the panel. 100% coverage is wack, and total overkill, 30% coverage is ample for almost all installs, including competition-ready systems. The whole point is to add weight to those panels so they aren’t thin, light, and therefore good transmitters of sound you don’t want to hear.

You'll get the most bang for buck by doing the inside of the outer door skin with the largest seat you can safely roll on. It’s worthwhile to prep the inside of that outer door skin with rubbing alcohol or paint prep spray and you need to use a roller to adequately apply the deadening material. I can recommend one if you need it.

It’s also worthwhile to roll out some around the speaker opening and slap a couple of pieces on any flat stretches of interior door panel. I like taking flashing tape to tape down loose wires also. But yeah … the crap you see with people completely doing the interior door panel …. It’s absolutely unnecessary and more “feel good” or show off material than anything. Study after study over the years has proven the gains you achieve after 40-60% coverage are so miniscule it isn’t worth the investment. Just don’t bother. Only time I’d really push you for excess coverage is if you’re intending to compete in SPL comps like in IASCA or something. But if you are, you picked the wrong f’n vehicle! Unless you have a Sequoia!

@shifty` what's the brand of leather seat covers you like? I remember you saying they don't make them for our trucks at the moment. The pictured Katzkin looks good, and I know of it to be good quality. Lots of cruiser guys were using Lseats, and were quick to report the quality was garbage.

I like The Seat Shop. But to my knowledge still not making anything for 1st Gen Tundras. Katzkin still getting all that business.

Dammit. I'm having a bigger problem finding leafs than I thought. I was attempting to buy a complete stack that includes lift, but I'm not finding much for my year of truck.

    My options appear to be:

    Get a custom set
    Or
Order a standard set of leafs from general spring (or similar) and install the AAL.

    Sound about right?

HD leafs have 500# more spring tension generally and ride 1-1.5” higher (lift) for most. @shifty` just did this upgrade. General and SD both have an HD leaf available I believe.

Nice, I did not realize the HD springs provide a bit of lift.

I'll check on Archive Garage, haven't seen that one before. I've looked over Deaver and it looks like the only set w/ lift, that isn't a stadium style, is the G57. Everything else is for a 2007.

Deaver will do a custom pack for FGT. They did mine. But it took two tries. First pack was lower than stock.

Yeah those seem like the way to go. Thanks for the clarification on the extra lift HD's provide.

I guess I could've just called customer service and asked, but where's the fun in that??
