I have the Toyota Bed Step installed. It is too low to the ground and a pain to use. Stepping from the bed step to the tailgate is a much larger distance than from the ground to the bed step and it's real awkward for me.

Anyone have a mod or suggestion to make the bed step so it's halfway between the ground and the tailgate?

If not, I might just go with the Traxion tailgate ladder....which I had on my 2014 Tundra and worked pretty good.

People complain about not having tow hooks. I wish Toyota would have the integrated steps into the rear bumper. It's practically standard on most trucks these days.

Toyota probably gained 0.001 better drag coefficient by not putting steps in the bumper. The tow hooks and lack of a bed step are about the only complaints I have on my truck.....maybe the shutting off the engine on remote start but hey with start stop being a feature I don't see it as that big a problem. To the OP think you'll probably have to settle for the tailgate ladder or possibly an aftermarket bumper, but I also haven't found any rear bumper that has a step in it. Damn first world problems!

Not that it will help your situation but more as info, all manual steps whether Factory or aftermarket are about the same height when deployed. Now when you talk about the factory powered boards & step, the step is 6" higher which puts it right in the middle between ground and tailgate and makes it more of a natural step up and in to the box. I have had both manual (on my 22 Limited) and powered (on my 23 Platinum).

Not at the same time, sorry it was misleading...
22 Limited bought Jan 7,2022, traded 25 Jan 2023 for Platinum.

So something that crossed my mind. I wonder if anyone else agrees. There should be a passenger side step as well. 1 for access on both sides, and 2 for a balanced look of the rear.

Along with the tailgate drop button, should have one of those on passenger side as well.

Put a Silverado bumper on there, seriously GM has the best bumpers going with the side cut out steps.

No can do, there is a BSM & RCTA sensor in the corner of the Tundra "Bumper".

Those are for my records, Man. I’ll stick with my bed step.

I just installed the Traxion HD tailgate ladder and it's very good. Much better than the original I had on my 14 Tundra.

Measure distance from ground to step(X), than measure distance from step to tailgate(Y)

    Y - X = $2,000-$5,000 suspension lift you need to match the distances :D

I was thinking to try the standard version for my non-lifted Tundra. The OEM bed step is a joke and next to useless.
