Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and I am looking for some help on a recent issue I found while filling up at the gas station. I have a 2021 Tundra TRD Sport CM with 16,600 miles. During the last few fill-ups I have had a good amount of gas come rushing out all over the side of the truck and onto the ground a second after the pump clicks off. I always stop pumping after the first click as I do not "top-off". I tried at a different gas station and got the same result. The service advisor at the dealership told me there could be a spider nest in the vent tube which I find unlikely or someone damaged something trying to siphon gas. I thought there was something to prevent siphoning but I could be wrong. I had a 2011 Tundra before this one and never had this issue. I am scheduled to take it into the dealership next week to start with a $160 diagnostics fee which I am sure will climb much higher but I was hoping to hear from anyone who had a similar experience and what the cause was. Thanks for your help.

    Too many, but not enough....
I had this happen only 1 time on my 21 in 25k miles. It happened when i had the pump set on the "slow" fill. I usually do the fast fill stop and it has never happened. I recently tried the slow fill stopper again and I didnt have an issue. I have a pretty decent idea now of how much gas i need when i go to the pump, so i will do the slow fill for 90% of the fill up, then switch to the fast for the last bit just as a precaution because I hear these trucks are sensitive to overfills and the charcoal canister.

Any resolve to this @Jeffrost23 ? I have a 2021 same miles, doing the same thing! I can’t stand it. I even try to stop fueling before it overflows.

Filler neck issue? Is this possibly related to the plastic valve that doesn’t allow you to pump gas?

The flapper/roller valve at the tank is stuck open. I disabled mine to be stuck open on purpose and this happens sometimes when I fill up. Pull the wheel liner and the filler neck at the tank snag a mirror and look into the tank to see if it’s stuck open. My guess it is

I took the truck to the dealer again and they told me I had a stuck one way valve in the tank somewhere that they freed. They said if it continues to happen they will have to replace the gas tank. The gas would have a higher probability of overflowing below half tank so I let the truck get down to “E” and filled it up and it did not overflow. I only have one fill up since taking it to the dealer so I will need more time to see if it is fixed or not. Typically if I went to “E” it would overflow every time so I never really let it get that low. My warranty expired a couple days ago but I should still be covered since I have this on record during the warranty period.

I have this problem occasionally so if I want to fill the tank all the way up, I turn the key on and watch the fuel gauge when it’s close to full. I know that on my truck when the needle is just completely beyond the F marker, the tank is as full as I should allow it to get. I shouldn’t have to do this but it’s not a big deal and I don’t have to be concerned about damaging the charcoal vent canister.

Did this ever happen again to your Tundra? I'm having it happen now. I just purchased a used 2021 Tundra w 22k miles and it is doing this. On my first fill up.

It happens to me if I don’t completely cover the fuel neck where you insert the pump. I feel like if it’s covered it builds up the pressure to set off the safety to stop pumping. My guess only lol
