For what ever reason my fuel door wouldnt unlock today. If you find yourself in the same situation, there is a manual level directly below the door on the inside of the fender. Grab the handle, or the cable as I did and yank down.

When adding fuel, you have to trickle it in, and I do mean trickle as it will blow back on you.

Might save someone a tow to the dealer knowing this as the dealer didnt even know about it.

Hmmm. Maybe we non Hybrid owners could add the locking door with the manual release only. Interesting, although every thief will soon know it’s under there.

My fuel door unlock mechanism came broken from the dealer. I have to manually open the fuel door. No big deal, but the alert on the the left side of the DIC annoys me because it's always there saying to close the fuel door. Anyway, I still have to press the fuel door release button to depressurize the fuel system or it will blow back on me. So, in your case, with the fuel door not opening upon pressing the release button and fuel blowing back on you when you are refueling, I'd assume the fuel system is not getting the signal to depressurize. I would check to see if the release button came unplugged (from behind the switch panel) and/ or if there is a blown fuse that controls the fuel door release.

Anti-siphon stuff has been around long enough that gas thieves have just taken to drilling a hole in the tank to get the go juice. As long as angry exes don't find out about this and pour soda in your tank, you'll be good.

Growing up in the early 70’s some kids on my street (the troublemakers) put all kids of crap in the fuel tanks of people on our street they had a beef with. Dirt, rocks, seeds, water, piss … They thought it was funny. My locking caps on every vehicle I’ve owned was more for kids than thieves.

Now days you are expected to let the vandalism and theft happen, because a dirtbag's "life is more important than stuff." I call BS. I sacrifice time to earn the money to buy my "stuff" so thieves and vandals are stealing/destroying that time along with the added time to work at it's replacement, so it is so much more than just the money or stuff they are stealing/destroying.

When thieves tried to steal my truck I chased them down the driveway trying to club them with my Lob Wedge out of my golf bag. Police show up and say I should of stayed indoors and phoned them.....my response was, "well, my truck is still in my driveway isnt it "

FURTHER UPDATE: So new motor comes in, drop the truck for install, Technician finds the electrical connector that is 6" long that plugs in the motor is fully corroded. Upon further investigation the o-ring seal was torn. So water got in connector, frapped the motor. So while I am fixed kinda, they will replace the 6" connector .

Wow. That corrosion happened really fast. Glad they found it and didn’t cook another motor

You know, I saw this hot tech tip a while back and appreciated that you posted. Didn't foresee the day my $70k turd would experience a fuel door failure under 4K miles.

This fuel door thing just happened to me yesterday. 2023 model 1794 with 16k miles. I’ll use the release “pull” till it’s time for the next service interval. When i push the fuel door release i get an alert that the vehicle is ready for refueling. Seems overly complicated. this issue aside; the truck is fantastic and tows my 23ft Airstream like its not even back there.

replacement parts are inbound for mine just the same as OP. They said corrosion. I hope they looked at the seal; don’t want to add another dealer visit after this upcoming fix.

Parts finally came in for mine. Why it took so long to get a "door plunger/ pin" is beyond me. I'm happy I don't have to look at the "close fuel door" error on the dash anymore and it's satisfying (trivial, I know) seeing the fuel door pop open like it should when the release button is pressed.
