Official ATX Tundras (Austin, TX) thread

Wud up y’all. I didn’t see an official ATX thread for the Tundra group, so here we go. Any ATX area Tundra stuff, post it up here.

 

Just bought a 2018 Limited on Thursday from Next 1 Auto on Burnet Rd. Guy operating the place was a Toyota/Lexus enthusiast.

 

Also, y’all might know me as Chris from Triple C Chop Shop as well.

 

Also, Pistons at the Park this Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 from 8am to 1030am is having a toy drive.

 

Just moved here from OR (by way of 18 months in Phoenix) My wife and I pretty active in dispersed camping and dare I say "overlanding" We either use a RTT or an offroad teardrop trailer. Would like to meet a few folks in the area, we're renting Hutto. Currently planning a trip to PINS in either Dec or Jan.

 

Welcome! My little sister lives near Corvallis. You’ll find that overlanding in Texas is tougher than OR and AZ as most the land here is owned by someone. Big Bend is a great overland place along with other spots as well. Many folks head to New Mexico or Arkansas to overland as well. You should come to the car show in Pflugerville this Sunday. Huge Tundra turn out along with other models as well. Show up bout 8am and there will be plenty of folks to talk to. Also, toy drive for the kids. I’ll most likely be wearing my Triple C hoodie, so keep an eye out for me.

 

I'll see if I can make it Sunday, but I think we have company staying the weekend. I'll keep my eyes out for the next one. BTW, pretty sure we DM'd on Facebook before I moved out about a BMC.

We did several trips to NM when we were in AZ and loved it. Big Bend is on the list for sure, along with the PINS trip I mentioned above. While not ideal, I've also used Hipcamp a couple times for quick overnights.

 

Bring company to the car show, they’ll love it. Lots of badass rides there. My favorite is the 60’s Lincoln Continental with suicide doors, that thing is sweet. Guy wants $240k for the damn thing. Never heard of hip camp, I’ll have to check that out.

 

Last Sundays Pistons car show was a huge success. 2 huge bins full of toys along with 6 55gallon drum fulls as well.

 

Check out Merus Adventure Park. I spent two days out there. One in a cabin on the rim and another camping in the canyon. Seriously.. Go.. I'm planning another trip out there in late January with some other Toyota guys. I'll hit up this thread and see if anyone can make it.

End of January is around my birthday, so might could wanna go. May have my wheeling truck back together by then.

 

Did you get rid of the taco?

 

Never. It’s just got a a spun journal on cyl 3. Pulling the motor and gonna do tear down and rebuild. Then it’ll be my dedicated off-road truck.

I moved to the Austin metro area from Amarillo back in Feb 2020. Still feel like a stranger in a strange land.

I have a Top Gun brand grill guard on my 2011 CM that was already on the truck when I bought the truck used in 2019. I've gotten to really like the guard, and I'm not wanting to replace it, however, it is starting to rust. I'd like to see if it's possible to have it bead/sand blasted and repainted/powder-coated. I'd also like to have a piece added (welded on) to facilitate a lighting setup idea I have. Does anyone have a line on a shop that might be able to provide those services?

 

cross link powder coat with n Pflugerville can prob handle the coating. Anyone the can weld good can help with the light fixture. Where you at in ATX?

I am halfway between Elgin and Manor about a mile off of 290. I work in the city, but I prefer living in the country.

 

once you get your light mount welded, yeah, head over to Pflugerville for the powder coat. Not sure who’s out in Elgin/Manor to weld, but you got a simple job. As mentioned above, Brandin will make it look pretty, he is in New Braunfels.

 

FYI, January 7th, 2024 8am-11am, Pistons at the Park car show. I’ll have my tuning software with me as usual. See y’all there.

Been wanting one for a while. Motor in the Taco rage quit on me so timeline for purchase moved up a year. Now my damn roof on my house took money away from taco motor, so gotta wait there.
