this is driving me nuts. I’ve taken off the grab handle and “A” pillar trim, as well as speaker grate/cover. Starting to think it’s the windshield. Only started doing it when temps dropped. Sounds like hail in the video, but it’s more of a creaking in person.

My noise is from where the headliner meets the windshield. If I push up on it sound stops. Read someone else that had a loose harness behind the sunglasses holder.

I've got a new one that just started today when temps dropped consistently for a couple of days. Sounds very much like yours, but I believe mine is from headliner.
Like a clicking sound on bumps. Coming from up in near the microphone. I can replicate it by pushing up and flexing whatever is immediately above the headliner. Sounds like plastic flexing under screw tension or something. Haven't attempted a fix yet.

I have a slight vibration rattle when I go over washboard type surfaces. It started after I had my windshield replaced. I don't notice it every day, just depends on the roads/speed/temperature. I can't hear it over my normal radio volume, so I haven't looked into it too much yet.

I’ve read about this issue, unfortunately not my case. I thought I had it solved when I took the a pillar cover off and when I wiggled the wires behind it they would click like my sound. No such luck.

I pulled the a pillar trim back off and had a closer look. There is a foam gasket running down the edge of the windshield frame between the windshield and the metal frame of the A pillar. If you look you can see near the bottom it curves in and doesn’t run flush to the bottom. Is this normal? Anyone out there have their a pillar trim off and notice this? See the area circled and the arrows show where the gasket dips inward. Don’t mind the black rag, that’s me stuffing things in with a trim removal tool to try and stop the creaking. Haha

Forced a cotton rag in the gap between the windshield and metal frame. Haven’t left the pavement since but seems to have calmed down the creaking, but still hear it.

anyone that had their windshield replaced because of this noise see what was actually their cause?

Did a little more looking into this. If I push on the bottom drivers side corner of the windshield I can recreate the same noise heard in the video. I used a trim removal tool to slide under the various outside windshield trim pieces and sprayed honey goo rubber care along where they meet as well as down behind them. Noise seems to be reduced somewhat but confirms the windshield is installed improperly. Definitely shouldn’t be moving to creak by pressing it.

I have noticed it on mine. But I also only notice it when the truck is really cold. And for the first couple minutes of driving. Once I get going it is definitely a lot less. Rarely happens then.

If I’m on a dirt road or a forest road it’s a lot worse. General driving around town on smooth pavement isn’t that bad. But any rough pavement causes it.

I have it in my 24 Platinum. Sounds just like the video. I thought it was the speaker or somewhere in that area. How hard is it to pull off the A pillar plastic?

take your fingernail and pull the 2 covers off the grab handle. The covers will pop off and stay connected via little plastic cords. 2 10mm bolts under here, there’s blue locktite on them but they’ll turn out. Then grab the cover near the top and pull out. Once the top is out you have to pull back towards the rear of the truck as down on the dash near the windshield there’s a tab.

I’ve done this about 6 times or more on mine. Not doing it anymore.

on the outside of the windshield, bottom corner drivers side, push fairly hard repeatedly and listen. This is where I heard my noise recreated and you can “feel” the noise

I had a “creak” around the upper top center of the windshield and it turned out to be the sensor housing. It was rubbing against the windshield. I nudged it a little and the noise went away. Don’t know if it’s the case here, but maybe it will help someone.

Yep, I have a 2023 1794 hybrid and noticed the same noise when it's cold. This and the squeaking brakes are annoying. Didn't have all these annoying sounds in my 2014, but I still prefer my new truck.

I’m having the same issue in my 2024 1794 Crewmax. It is definitely worse in the cold and on bumpier roads. Will be following along to see if anyone discovers the cause. I originally thought it was a loose wire harness that runs over to the mirror. But the more I have listened, it sounds like an issue with the way the windshield was set. Haven’t taken mine into the dealer yet.

Mine 100% is how the windshield was installed. It’s been -10 or so and it’s about to make me jump off the deep end when on back woods roads for work. But the maddening part is if I take it in to get the windshield reinstalled I’ll likely be faced with more issues from whoever does it that doesn’t give a shit about the quality of their work.

My truck Tundra 2023 has plastic noise (vibration) like something loose but could not find it. It is not always, it is random and easily happen when speed up from 20 to 45mph.
Seems when the engine has vibration that meet frequency then it happened.

I tried to clean all coins or anything that can make sound (sun glass....) but it is still happened.
When I am in driver side, I hear it from passenger side. When I am passenger side, I hear from driver side.

It happened from ~ 2K miles.

Does anyone have experience about it?

I had same clicking sound along top edge of windshield only in cold weather. If you press along top edge of windshield about 8-10 inches in from corner and clicking stops, it is the plastic windshield alignment pins glued to windshield that they use from factory to set the windshield during assembly. Those pins serve no purpose once windshield cures and is set. Had my headliner partially dropped this week and those cut out and clicking is gone.

Can you zoom out and take another picture? Did you cut out the entire thing in your picture? My sound is from the bottom but maybe sound is travelling up the glass? Or maybe pins like this exist along the bottom under the wiper cowling as well?

I don't know about the bottom. I know there are one of these on each side along the top. Shop removed the plastic pin and piece of material glued to the windshield in case it was contacting the metal bracket. I suggested the issue to toyota from advice from someone that use to be in the Windshield business. Toyota agreed there was an issue, dropped the headliner, took the photos but never did anything with it as they had no direction. I then made them reach out to a glass shop and I took the truck to that shop to talk to tech direct. took them about 40 minutes and toyota covered cost. Only have one other photo. If it is the top pressing with your thumb along the glass right next to headliner will make it stop or lessen.

I used a camera to see where this clip is, and for now I have a straight trim removal tool wedged into that glue on the clip/windshield. See how that goes. It’s cold out and I don’t want to deal with dropping the headliner.

This was my problem. Just went on a forestry road where it would creak like crazy and not a peep. Funny how I had the same thing making a noise back in 2012 on my ram. Also strange how sound travels as it absolutely sounded like the lower corner of the windshield making the noise.
    Thanks for my sanity back!

@Northern Toyota awesome, thanks for sharing the photo and details. Glad this fixed the issue for you. Were you able to see this with a phone camera? I wonder if something smaller could be shoved up there so it stays out of sight.

I used my front camera on my phone to see the screen while looking. Used a hooked trim removal tool to pry down enough on headliner to see clip that was shown in attached images above. It’s about directly lined up with the top of the steering wheel (us Canadians get the pro wheel with red stripe on our trd models)

I can pivot that plastic trim removal tool sideways to be more out of sight but I kinda don’t want to touch it now as my truck is 100% creak free!

you can feel the tool go into the “soft glue” as you push hard.

I have this noise as of a couple weeks ago. It has also been very cold (single digit lows), not sure if that is a factor. Mine isn't as frequent. Hopefully it's just from the cold? If so I can live with it...

I just had this issue fixed on my truck. It drove me nuts for a couple of weeks. Had them take a look when I went in for the fuel line recall. Took them about 4 hours to diagnose and fix, under warranty.

They referenced TSB-0141-10 and removed part of the stopper and made a gap between the glass and roof panel.

A quick Google search looks like about all Toyota’s use these plastic glass holders on the assembly line to temporarily hold the glass until urethane cures. That tsb is to remove them. Sounds like Toyota needs a glue that stays somewhat malleable in the cold.
