Thank you. This exactly what we need to improve on these, This is V1.
And YES, sealant on that edge is not great, but that’s not the part’s fault.
About the lens colors, this is what this particular customer wanted, those can be arranged in any manner you want.
Normally the 2 outside ones would be chase/cargo lights with one acting as brake light.
Baja used to have a mask inside of all squadron SAEs so having a mask inside is fine for brake lights because they aren’t on as often.
Pricing could be improved with volume but as of now we are a smaller shop and we can’t make 500 of them without any sales.
We’re adding antenna mounts to V2, that’s already in the works.
Camera add-on is also in the works. again, thanks for the feedback.

Check the build link in my signature.
Without seeing more details of the construction of it, how the light plate is sealed, etc. it’s hard to really see how it might be lightened up, though I’m certain there’s opportunities.

I would look closely at how the BPD one mounts - it provides significantly better mount strength over factory without much challenge to how it seals. Their instructions are here and you can see how they add two holes in the flat part of the cab (unlike the Evil mount) and then use a custom clamping “nut” plate that goes on the back side. Part of this is so that they can retain the factory mounts for the re-used factory light housing (not needed in the case of your design). From the look of your design, it looks like something similar for nut plates would be fairly easy to incorporate.

Using a faying seal, I’d go the route of a butyl gasket myself - another reason to have a more robust mount solution. If made to fully cover the mated surfaces and around the anchoring bolts it would be pretty damn hard to leak.

As someone sitting here with a pair of S2’s and a set of stubby antennas on my desk that I’m looking to set up on my roof or roof rack for work/chase lights and comms, I see a lot of potential here but just can’t stomach that price for less function out of the box than the others at considerably lower price points. Better looks will only get you a date - if you can’t cook and like expensive jewelry then you’re not marriage material for me.

I’m less concerned with camera mount options myself, but I’m n=1. If the design is modular enough to accommodate them or allow the use of one like what evil is offering, then no big deal.

Yes, this is a low volume product in a low volume market, but you’ve got to be careful not to make it a non-seller out of the gate. The right price makes it more appetizing for resellers to jump in board as well.

Really would like to physically put hands on one to be able to provide better review. It’s hard to do that from a couple internet pictures, no instructions or tear down info, etc.

Also. Not sure about the general public's stomach to poke holes in their trucks, but adding a mod like this isn't done by the faint of heart anyway. A couple of additional holes with rivnuts or a nut plate as @RainMan_PNW pointed out, to help cinch the surfaces together, is something a ton of guys on this forum wouldn't think twice about. With the obligatory 'should only be done by professionals' disclaimer in the installation guide, of course. The truck would benefit from the stability after you add the weight of the housing, lights, antennas, and additional horsepower it's going to give the truck.

Are you saying that one should make sure to blind-drill into the roofline airbags, in order to find the most secure mounting points? :monocle:

I drilled the holes but made sure I didn't puncture anything. All worked out.

It looks like we may be able to retrofit an antenna mount into these lights we already made. Most likely 2 for those who need that.

So here are a couple photos of when I installed my EVL MFG 3rd brake light.

This isn’t for the faint hearted if you aren’t willing to drill into your vehicle - and also, this isn’t just a simple mod. I’m sure this product being offered by @Supertoyotabros will be a similar install process to the EVL MFG 3rd brake light as it requires the entire removal of the OE 3rd brake light assembly to be replaced.

If you’re going to purchase this one or any other fabrication shops take at 3rd brake lights, you all must drop your headliner. It’s going to sound difficult, but guess what? When you drop a bolt or nut or washer inside or when you’ll have to drill into the roof to install rivnuts, spending that extra hour to drop the headliner will save on headaches.

    Edit:

Also, I didn’t trust the gasket that came from EVL MFG, so after speaking with Rey, he recommended black RTV. Which has given me ZERO leaking problems after installing this. Only caveat is that it’ll be tough to take out once I gotta fix something up there. I may eventually swap out the black RTV for clear RTV since it’ll be easier to clean upon removal.

And another note is that if you’re going to drill the holes, I’d suggest put a piece of electrical tape for a stopping point on your drill bit. That way once it penetrates, you can immediately pull it back out without damaging anything internally or over drilling.

Any update on these? I still see them for sale but just wondering how the final product came out and what tweaks were made.

how are the sold or tested products holding up after a while?

any plug and play harnesses available?

well, I did a thing and ordered.

got mine in today, it is a heavy beast. So that is my first concern

second I want to come up with the most effective way to seal it to the cab, gasket maker and RTV are going to be my method.

I really like the finish, gloss wrinkle style finish.

My set up will be, left cargo light, center red brake, right chase light

Im going to make a plug and play harness for the cargo and brake to plug into the factory plug.

I will update when I get this going

Probably a great option. It never breaks down and will keep water out right?

im willing to apply whatever to make this permanent. I don’t anticipate this ever being removed
