Hey guys, I bought a blackout kit for my SR5 and it came with double sided tape attached. I cleaned the emblems with rubbing alcohol and applied while pushing down and holding like 60 seconds. The tundra emblems are already peeling; they lasted a day. I’m going to take them off and reapply but what do you guys recommend for adhesive?
    Thanks!

1.) 3M tape needs to be warm-to-hot to actually adhere well, and I see ice/snow in your photo. Probably too cold.
2.) The overlays tend to trap dirt and grit against your paint in spots you cannot see or reach to clean. My overlays were only in place for 1 year and there was so much grime underneath by the time I removed them, I was surprised.
3.) An entire set of actual black emblems is around $70 shipped. I strongly recommend you wait for warm weather or a heated garage space, remove the existing emblems with a hairdryer and fishing line and some pure 100% alcohol, and replace them with an all-black set that will last and be better in every way. As you're discovering, the overlays come with disappointing results and fitment at times.

Edit: Link to the set I bought last year. They look great and are stuck on quite firmly, having weathered MN winter nicely: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284512516652

I have the patience of a 2 year old and they arrived when there was snow/ice outside and were applied about 5 minutes later. I’ll pick up some 3M tape and redo it when it’s warmer. I’ll also probably end up grabbing the actual emblems too then. Shouldn’t be too pricey since I only have Tundra and the 5.7L badges left on the truck.
    Thanks for your input!

I ordered the covers as well. Installed when it was roughly 70 out. Have been on the truck for over a year and through many car washes and they’ll still holding strong. Guessing it’s just due to the temps when installing.

    OE blackout kit or aftermarket?

I tried to save money with an aftermarket kit and had similar results. The OE kit has been rock solid for a year now.

I have a set of the black Tundra badges, not covers, I never used on my truck. PM me an address and I'll ship them next week on my days off.

I recommend replacing the chrome emblems with the actual Pro/ black emblems. I think you'll be happier with the result in the long run.

Aftermarket. They honestly don't look that bad but they don't stick lol. If Godzilla tosses me those badges (or when I snag other ones), I'll put mine up for free in marketplace.

    That is a good deal.

For anyone else considering blacking out, don't waste your time and money with aftermarket overlays. It always ends the same.

Not always the same. Sometimes people just say 'F' it and everybody gets naked.

I’ve had no issues with my aftermarket overlays after a year plus. In the middle of the 2nd winter with them on and have it’s been through probably 20-30 car washes. As long as it’s prepped right, shouldn’t have any issues

Thanks! EAG product 'STYLINE SERIES'. They have been hard to find as of late. Nobody seems to have them in stock.

:rofl:it all started with the god awful pinstripes and TRD bed decal. On the badging, I went back and forth with black vs chrome vs none. Did a partial delete leaving the lower door badge for a while, then just went all in. Took all the pinstripes, all the badges, even the black B pillar. It makes it super easy to clean. That 5.7 badge just looked like a rectangle when black anyway.

Plastidip is another easy solution to blacked out emblems. Little bit of work with a toothpick to get the small places. I’ve had mine for almost two years and no issues.

I do like the de-badge look too.

I may have used the wrong prep. I used a mild abrasive to to scuff the badge surface, cleaned with denatured alcohol solvent, dried/warmed the badge with a heat gun, and used an eva foam pad to apply even pressure for just under a minute.

They were fine until the first winter when they warped and pulled away from the badges.

I suspect there is also some variation between the aftermarket sets being sold.

I believe I got mine on Amazon. Would have to go back and double check. As far as prep, all I did was clean the emblems well with alcohol wipes and then once put on, applied even pressure for probably like 2-3 minutes per badge. Outside temp was around 70-75° when I installed.
