Last weekend I picked up a 21 1794 with 36k miles, certified pre-owned, for $48k. I could have got a 21 LR TRD PRO with the same miles, but not certified for the same price (48k), but the wife preferred the 1794 and I didn't really care either way. This is in Florida btw.

I got a 2021 SR5 CM with 106 miles on it (practically new) for 39K before taxes and paper works and that was in Texas

you’re in NY. May have to buy from a different area and travel to pick it up. We routinely purchase vehicles from Dallas, TX at a significant savings over local (Little Rock, AR). Just did that for a car for my son. Flew in, picked up the car and drove it home. Find your Dallas, TX.

I paid 39K for my 21 strippo SR longbed 4x4 dbl cab and recently Carvana started emailing me wanting it.
Current offer from them is 34K no thanks. Maybe when the LC comes back unless its having issues.

Good advise and that's what I did. There was one in Florida I wanted to buy for my kid I think with 2000 miles on it but the dealer wanted way too much for my personal appetite so I sent them packing. Cash is king.

I'd look private party instead and just pay to have the vehicle inspected by a reputable shop prior to purchasing.

I bought my 2018 Platinum Crewmax 4wd 6 weeks ago for $36k. Comparable trucks on dealer lots were consistently $8-12k more expensive, and I found more mechanical discrepancies (signs of oil leaks, torn ball joint boots, etc) with the "certified pre-owned" trucks than I did with the private party trucks I looked at.

I also avoided paying sales tax that way too.

this is the tax nerd in me so I apologize in advance. you avoided paying sales tax at purchase but likely (depending on what state you live in) you technically are required to remit the sales tax to the state by some other means.

Right? We pay tax at the time of registration in Arkansas, not at the sale. When I purchased my vehicle in Tennessee, They collected the Arkansas tax at the time of purchase because they are required to collect the tax at time of purchase in Tennessee. They sent me a check to give to the AR DFA for when I registered it.

Each state is different (I’m a CPA in NY). What you say about Arkansas sounds reasonable and likely correct.

I did not bring this up to be a ball-buster, just want full disclosure to members who might be thinking about this incorrectly to help them avoid any unpleasant surprises.

I just picked up a 2019 1794 package with 32k for 43k. Was well cared for so I was happy to pay it. I looked at several before buying this. Seems the v8 tundras hold value.

So since I went out of state to buy it in Nevada (no state sales tax), I believe I avoided it. I still had to pay my registration fees when I got back to AZ, but correct me if I'm mistaken (because taxes and tax law aren't my area of expertise), I believe I still saved money. Had I purchased a $36k truck from a dealer in AZ (we have something like a 9% sales tax), I would've paid significantly more money for my truck.

There's a Pro for sale here in Oregon that has been on Facebook at 49 for months. Or buy mine at 47, though I have to admit I have no idea what LR or AG means.

Still depends on your state (AZ), you may have paid the 9% when you registered it and then it’s a wash. I’m in South Carolina where they cap the sales tax on vehicles at $500. (That’s for registering a vehicle in SC, if one purchases here and then registers it in another state they are subject to those state laws). My prior state I still paid state tax on out of state vehicle purchases when I went to register them in my name back in that state.

So I paid like $500 for my one year of registration on the truck. Doesn't seem high enough for them to have snuck sales tax on the vehicle in there. Pretty sure in both AZ and NV you dodge sales tax entirely when buying vehicles private party, as this experience went exactly how my other private party vehicle purchases have gone.

Meanwhile when I bought my wife a 2023 RAV4 Limited off the lot, the $48k price tag became $55k after tax, title, license.

This is roughly what my 2020 1794 was. A bit cheaper but a year older too. Also CPO

Welcome to trying to buy a truck in Long Island. I looked at one at Massapequa Toyota that was what i thought a little high at the time before i bought mine and it had busted side mirror. I asked, "you guys gonna fix that?" Salesman responded, "I can ask my manager, but probably not, these things just sell right away." I just walked away after my test drive and didn't even bother talking price after that comment. I think it was gone in like a week or so. About a week after that i flew to Florida to pick up a certified used one with significantly lower mileage at a much lower price. Would not hesitate to do that again. As a matter of fact, I'm shipping for a jeep for my wife right now and plan on doing the same. With my truck, i just put cash down so it was easy. In the case of my current hunt, I'm looking to trade in my wife's Chevy Traverse, so not sure how this is gonna work.

so i've been waiting and saving money to potentially buy a new tundra, but i've kept my eyes peeled for used tundras. in the ohio area i've discovered a few things:
    - 2015-2019 Tundra CMs are overpriced in this region by roughly $5k over KBB -- i suspect these dealers overpaid for the trucks in the late fall and december, so now they're trying to find a sucker to bail them out
    - 2020-2021 Tundra CMs are right on the money with KBB ranges, and as soon as they hit the lower portion of KBBs range they sell within a week -- i suspect lease turn in's are keeping the prices suppressed in a way that isn't happening with '15-'19s.

Anyway.. i found that pretty interesting. I was bored enough to run a regression analysis on Tundra SR5 CMs with the TRD Offroad package, no wrecks, within 500 miles.. it generally agreed with my above suspicions.

I guess this is my first post on here. I have been shopping and watching the markets on 21 TRD Pros, specifically in Lunar Rock. The wholesale market has supposedly dropped, but dealers are still asking an arm and leg for this specific package, especially with low miles. I PMd a member already about a vehicle and I might be posting a WTB in the near future. I have found that the less than 36K Lunar Rock TRD Pros are selling within days within 3 hours of here. I just offered 48K on a 29K and was denied. That dealer is buying them at auction, at the historic low wholesale prices, and still asking the accepted retail pricing of a month ago. They wanted $56K for it.

I have one other suspicion: Toyota dealers are definitively worse about pricing than other dealers - especially certified

I read an article from an owner of a dealer group and he said if he had to hire a salesman, and had a choice between a former Chrysler salesman and a former Toyota salesman, he’d hire the Chrysler guy. His reasoning was that the Chrysler salesman had to work to sell a product, the Toyota salesman didn’t since their products sold themselves.

It has been my experience that any dealership will work with you on price, but the Toyota dealers have been far more stubborn. Their pricing is higher, they’re lower on trade in, and just generally don’t negotiate very much.

I don’t think it’s that they don’t know how to negotiate, they just don’t do it. They sit with some computer software that tells them profit margins, and then they wait for their used Toyotas to do what their new Toyotas do.

So I’m becoming a little leery of contacting Toyota dealers about used tundras.. hasn’t been going well for me lately.

Interestingly enough, the 3rd gen TRD Pros are not selling. The prices are all over the place, but even at sub 70K (still ridiculous) they are sitting. I’m not a hater of the 3rd gen, just an observation.
