Hello all, I have a 2020 with a 5.7 and am looking at getting a tune. There is a guy somewhat local to me that can do a canned tune with Vf tuner and said he can update the tune for my mods (33's and DD 8" exhaust). I've read on here about some people getting custom tunes done with HP Tuners now that they support the 2020 ECU. There's also local support for the OTT tune. Was just wondering what Y'all recommend and if the extra cost of a custom in-person HP tune is worth it. I understand the gains on N/A will be minimal more looking for better torque in lower RPM's, better shift points, and better throttle response. I'm in San Antonio if y'all know of any custom tuners here with tundra experience. Thank y'all!

Custom is better than canned. It’s like using a 9/16” wrench instead of a crescent wrench.

OTT or Yotawerx. I don't do N/A stuff, I don't know enough to where you'd gain any power.

    Nitrogen filled tires!

If you want local/semi-close to you; way better low-end torque; accurate shifting; and throttle response, then you are in luck! Get with Marc @mZiggy and YotaWerx. Best customer service you can get and tuning surpassed by none. You will be amazed and happy with your choice.

I don't think there is much to gain. One of the members here showed a dyno were the TQ curve moved left/earlier.

I have the OTT tune on my 2018 5.7. Worth the money I paid for it. Throttle response is excellent and I honestly notice a difference in torque at about 2500-2800 rpm when towing a trailer.

The OTT is pretty straight forward but it can be customized mostly for throttle response. Bigger tires benefit from a tune up in throttle response.

Just got off the dyno with a N/A Tundra literally minutes ago. This is what you get with an OTT “canned” tune.

Good lord. That’s a massive torque gain. Looks like a diesel curve. Which tuner does LOI use? Did they start the run sooner in the rpm band? I’m guessing they had to and I’m guessing they lock the converter sooner and longer so they can start it earlier.

That’s solid gains and similar to what it feels with the OTT tune I’ve got. Curious to see what John comes back with on my request to lock up in 4th both in tow//haul and regular.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    where is the HP hiding?

do they lean out the AFR?

or as said above - lock the TC?

can someone be sorta kinda specific?

because the only variable you are dickering with is Fuel & air. maybe TQ converter lockup.

and does changing these variables affect adversely affect the engine?

These are genuine questions...I'm S/C'd & shit, so these types of n/a adjustments intrigue me, albeit they are very small.

    yes, 30hp is small.

Actually they are rather large for NA gains. 30hp//60tq from a tune is unheard of. Even on the LS engines. The fact the curve starts 1500rpm sooner tells me they are locking the converter differently and can start the run sooner than factory.

Cam timing, fuel, air, spark timing, throttle mapping, there’s a lot that can be manipulated but not sure what all is being done here.

so, 30hp/60Tq is hiding in the engine.

    fascinating.

    that graph above...one run starts @ 2500...the other starts @ 4200. weird.

    Yes but it's oddly high.

During a dyno run, the converter needs to stay locked or it throws skewed numbers because of the torque multiplication of the converter. The factory converter lockup schedule will force downshifts early when going to WOT. So they are locking the converter earlier and forcing it to stay locked up which allows them to start the run sooner.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    the OTT tune looks "right"

the other dyno - our N/A engines don't make TQ that soon, unless you count the bump when you start the dyno.

S/C'd Tundra make TQ that early. and I agree...my TC was locked, by the tuner, on the dyno .

interesting differences, to say the least.

    color me skeptical.

The OTT is more in line with what I would expect from an NA.
