    My Pops has a 2003 Chevy 1500 w/ the 4.8 motor & 110K miles. (Paw-Paw Miles) LOL
That year(s) motor is kind of notorious for valve train noise.
Highly contested what it actually is, or causes it.
I did the spray can of Seafoam in the intake while running, then a 1 oz. per quart of the treatment to the oil.
I ran it for a full tank of fuel (approx. 250 miles) then did an oil change.
Oil came out dark as predicted, but nothing 'unusual'.
Results seemed to get rid of 95% of the valve train noise . . . still a tiny bit right at start up, but mucho better.

So what's your take on our trucks?
I know you talk about sludge build up under the valve covers on low mileage, short interval driven 1st Gens.

    I'm not a Snake-Oil, or 'Genie-in-a-Bottle' kinda guy . . . but can't argue with what I saw in Pops ride.

    Just curious.

I guess you could have PM’d him? Lol but I’m also here to see what others have to say. I’ve personally seen some cool vids with cameras showing the top of the pistons before and after and Project Farm (everybodies favorite) has a some really in-depth videos on the subject

BG. put BG EPR in before an oil change, Run for 10 minutes (like do a few hot laps). Drain. Add BG MOA to you oil at every oil change (takes place of the additives found in "High Milage" labled oil). Use BG 44K in the fuel tank. If able and equipped to do so, perform a fuel induction cleaning through a vacuum line and clean the throttle body. @shifty` has posted many times about how to locate a retailer or how to order online.

It doesn't matter whether you use Seafoam or BG products, but Seafoam is more readily available from what I see. Both make high quality products that'll do the job. For Seafoam, I prefer the High Mileage stuff. I have some in my crankcase now, in preparation for my upcoming oil change. I dumped the remainder of the bottle in my gas tank @ 1/8 tank, after pouring several ounces in the crankcase. I've done this with all of my vehicles since I can remember. MMO is another great product I use that's similarly effective.

This video from PF speaks for itself.

Thought the early LS engines had piston slap that everyone was hearing.

That Lucas stuff he used in the video worked for that. But I think the slapping was primarily in the earlier GenIIIs. I remember folks bitching about it on LS1tech when I was doing the LS1/T56 swap into my C10. I never experienced it personally.

I’m reluctant to apply it directly to the engine. All that carbon coming out of the engine is liable to take a few years off my cats. If I took my cats off I’d have no problem using it.

I just add it to gas. Oil application, I’m unsure about. Guess I’d have to read up on that.

Cool Cool, thanks. ... I seen that vid. prior to treating my Pops truck.
    And it's weird . . . I must've spelled 'Seafoam' wrong the search window or something. . . cause I didn't see 'S' pop up. Should've known better.
Oh well . . . glad I was able to provide a little comedy hour for the monkeys . . .LOL.

That seems to be the overall consensus . . . but everyone chimes in with valve / tappet / lifter knock etc. etc. etc.
Oil pressure 'seemed' to bump up a bit too after treatment.

Wife 2005 Burb has 320K and has that annoying Vortec tick since about 200K. Couple things. First GM uses shitanium hydraulic lifters prone to collapse that cause this. Second o-ring on oil pickup can get pinched on install or deteriorate and shrink. Problem is you have to remove cross member and drop diff the remove pan.

Needed the psi up over 145 to get the crank bolt off. The main shop compressor is an old and tired 110v piston compressor from the 60s. Pops just swapped it out for a 220v compressor motor and plumbed it into the old larger tank. Hasn’t finished fixing some leaks, so pancake it was.

    I'm just messing with you.
A pancake compressor is all I had for years, still use it for in-house and backyard stuff.
I use my 35 gal Husky several times a week for just blowing stuff off other stuff and cleaning out vacuum cleaner filters.:eek2::rolleyes:
    It's just a 120V.....

I’ll admit it. Mine does. I ditched both my larger compressors 6-8yrs ago when I offloaded my Lincoln and plasma. I haven’t yet found a time when I said to myself, “man I wish I had more air”. Maybe if I painted I’d be there but for everything else? Electric does it.

So with adding the BG MOA to the oil can you just get regular synthetic oil, instead of high milage? Hope that makes sense?
