Toyota needs to get serious and offer an "XL" version to compete with the Suburban and Yukon XL. 38 gallon tank, integrated trailer brake controller, etc.

If I ever need to get another three row SUV, I may go Grand Highlander.

I’ve been saying this for years. I’d buy one immediately.

No offense meant, but an XL 3G Sequoia could barely match the 122 cubic ft cargo volume of the 2G. Then there's the big problem of no fulltime 4WD, then there's the problem of no rolldown rear window, then there's the problem of an enormous turning circle, then there's the sheer cost, then there's the complication of a hybrid system. Only 19000 units sold since debut so it isn't hot. We decided a third 2019 Sequoia was the way to go.

Agree 3rd Gen leaves a lot to be desired, but 19000 in just over 12mos is more than Toyota sold the previous 2-3 years combined and looks like a result of production volume limitations over lack of demand. I have a '23 that my only really complaint on is fuel tank size, towing my travel trailer on 35s & I'm barely hitting 200 miles before the light comes on. Had 4-5 more gallons to play with in the 2nd Gen

2025 Tahoe and Yukon refresh will eclipse any ground Toyota made with this new generation.

    Chevy advantages:
    1. V8
    2. flat 3rd row folding seats
    3. Upgraded interior
    4. Larger 3rd row (width and height)
    5. More storage area and better design
    6. Price points will be similar

Yeah everybody complaining about lack of roll down rear window and 3rd row seat difference which I find perfectly fine now....but the stupid fuel tank!!! I'm not even on 35s but pulling a large boxy travel trailer and full vehicle of people across 2000 miles, I really want a bigger tank. I will definitely pay for an aftermarket secondary tank if someone releases it, I just don't know where they would put it except the spare tire spot.

Yeah, we'll be looking at used Tahoes if the 2G Sequoias are acting up. 3G Sequoia with 87 cu ft max cargo volume is ridiculous. May as well buy a used 4Runner, same cargo volume and flat cargo floor. 3G Seq also lost the sweet Torsen fulltime 4WD. My daughter said "One step forward with better MPG, two steps back". Yota will have to do something to make it competitive in the segment.

Agreed. For some reason Toyota failed to successfully execute the requirements behind the very reason you buy this segment of vehicle.

I'll be in the market for the 2025 Yukon refresh.

I’ve also started looking back instead of forward for my future vehicles. We were looking for a third vehicle and I just picked up an old Sequoia (2005). I’m blown away how well it’s held up over 18 years and a 1/4 million miles.
I don’t think the new ones will have the same longevity.

I’m in the same boat as you because Toyota/Lexus refuse to make me real large SUV’s. Looking at used Yukons XL now but I’m seeing the Escalade ESV is similar in price.
    What’s the ‘25 refresh offering?

Diesel engine as an option, refreshed grille (mildl), and the interior infotainment is upgraded to something similar or identical (unsure) to what you'd get in the Denali currently.

Sweet. The Indiana plant that built that did Land Cruiser quality IMO. I tried to find one for cheap in the Denver area, no luck for me. Used 4WD Toyotas move off the lot fast in Colorado.

This what I'm looking at in my area.https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...ear=2005&state=CO&zip=80120&clickType=listing

Carfax is clean, had a lot of maintenance done at 230k miles. It's about $4k overpriced but that's what I see in Colorado. I wanted to buy it for $7k when it was at Groove Toyota, but I waited two days and the used car dealer snapped it up and is asking $10k. Used Subarus and 4WD Yotas are hot around here.

Dude, you got me thinking bout a 1st Gen, so went to look at an '04 w/190k miles, $7k firm price at Mt States Toyota.

Never drove it off the lot, two person job to open the hood, no jack or tire tools, wouldn't go into 4hi with dash button (which wasn't correct, did not have the split button for 2wd/4hi and the 4lo button), somebody did a manual t-case swap 4lo-n-4hi that I couldn't get to work. Then it wouldn't engage any gear in the trans, so I put it in P to abandon ship, made an awful sound and a red "A/T P" lit up on the lower right corner of the dash.

Well, we'll keep looking but our budget is well below $10k and everything Yota 4WD is way over bluebook.

Didn't see any at the front door. Didn't notice any new Sequoias either. RAV4's and Tundras were presented at the front door of the dealership.

Hey, maybe you can advise me about this 2006. https://www.shiftauto.net/details/used-2006-toyota-sequoia/97270470

I'm worried that the Carfax doesn't show a timing belt replacement, sparkplugs not replaced, trans and diffs not serviced. 220k miles is a long interval for none of that being done. Did yours have a Carfax showing good regular preventive maintenance?

I was surprised that '04 I posted about above a bigtime Yota dealer in the Denver metro area would even trot that out for a test drive. I called a day ahead of time and there was three empty Pepsi cans in the passenger footwell. I didn't even drive it off of the lot and the transmission was wrecked. Wish me luck next time, I hope yours is kicking ass and taking names.

Sorry - missed this somehow. It had regular maintenance on the carfax but no timing belt or spark plug service I could find. I was prepared to service the diffs and t-case but fluid looked immaculate when I pulled a sample. Did a drain and fill on the trans and it looked good too.

I think with the age and mileage- you have to check out the condition yourself. A ton of maintenance history is no guarantee the truck wasn’t abused.

Thanks. I do a good look underneath, carfax is just one of the tools to weed out obvious "not worth looking at" vehicles. Most dealers are willing to hoist the vehicle in their service bay so I request that.

My daughter needs one final piece of the puzzle to complete her fleet longterm doing animal rescues and adoptions, spay/neuter clinics down on the Rez. Something AWD/4WD cheap and reliable that can do adoption events at Petco and Petsmart every weekend. Only need to get 150 miles per week from it since it will be weekend use only.

We're scrambling to find an affordable CUV, they jump off the lot fast around here. Too bad I don't know jack about anything other than Yota. Shelby wanted to look at a 2017 Pathfinder, that was gone off the lot in three days for $17k. Just have to keep looking, not a desperate need, maybe the market will cool down.

I actually saw a 3rd gen Sequoia in the wild today. Maybe the second time ever. They look really nice.

I still wish Toyota hadn’t deleted the roll-down rear window, option for 4wd w/ unlocked center diff, and a good chunk of cargo space.

I’m not saying it’s back on the table for a near-future purchase, but I’ll keep paying attention to people’s experiences with it.

Meanwhile, 172k on the LX570, and my only issue is the horn fuse keeps blowing. Maybe I should clean the fuse box out…

3G is so far off of the table for us it's in the basement crawlspace for the reasons you said. Maybe works for some people but doing what my daughter and her crew do cramming dog crates into the cargo area she nixed it just looking at pictures. Doesn't matter if it drops drastically in used price five years from now, it just won't work.

Lack of fulltime 4HI is a killer, they have volunteer drivers that do not want to swap back and forth 2Hi to 4Hi constantly in a Colorado winter going down to the Rez. I hate swapping back and forth and I'm experienced.

I hate to say it, but I will likely be looking for a new 5.3 Suburban / Yukon XL due to the space limitations of the 3rd gen. It does not fill the same role as the 2nd gen did.

I have a 2023 Tundra that I love. Wife drives a 2017 Suburban. We were really hoping to like the new Sequoia, but we just don't get along with it.

The rear cargo area is terrible. We don't want a tray system and we need the seats to fold flat. We can fit two kids kayaks and a beach wagon in our Suburban, but there's no way in the Sequoia. We also like being able to store our bikes in the cargo area sometimes and I don't see how we could store 3-4 bikes back there.

I'm 5'10" and my head rested against the ceiling bulge in the second row due to the pano roof.

I opted not to get the hybrid Tundra and I would rather not have a hybrid Sequoia. Wish the rear window rolled down.

The SR5 Premium and Limited trims also seem really expensive compared to the competition.

I'll most likely try to find a certified pre-owned Suburban or Yukon XL for our next family rig. We've had good luck with our 2017. Currently sitting at 95,000 miles without any major issues.

My plan is keep the three 2019 Sequoias we have maintained. Spread out the mileage and that's a good fleet. Hopefully I won't have to be looking for anything else for a long time.

I unfortunately came to the same conclusion and just bought a 24 Yukon XL with the 6.2. Initially was looking at used but a used GM scared the crap out of me.

The key to successful GM ownership to me is a) buy lower trims without fancy air suspension/electronics/gadgets b) dump them just before the end of factory powertrain warranty.

Do you mean in 10 years? You got a lot of life left in that '21 Sequoia!
