Great news but not. More evidence only helps you though.

Yes. Agree. I should have video and report from mechanic tomorrow. Then it gets real. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Thinking of contacting one of the States news agencies "on your side" people. This would be perfect for them!!!

That's a good idea. Also talk to lawyers. Rarely do I say this but at times you have to just lawyer up and ride the wave.

Does it include the cost to replace the engine and transmission? How much is that?

Good and bad. Good they didn't put in the recommended oil or you would have been 15+ qts. Great that you had a mechanic drain and video the whole thing.

I told my wife wherever we end up after retirement a mini lift or some kind of 4 post will be installed for oil changes. I just can't risk this kind of negligence.

Even if resolved they might have you sign a NDA which will mean you will not be allowed to disclose the settlement terms.

They did, by putting one pan under the engine and the other pan under the transmission.

Although it sucks sometimes it’s best to just move on. Whether it’s fix it or sell it or whatever. Throwing good money around the problem in hopes of a decision in your favor or just throw that money at the problem and fix it. It’s your money and your time but I know what I’d do at this point.

You’d have to prove they overfilled it which at this point would be almost impossible. It’s possible you overfilled it…and that would be all the reasonable doubt they’d need!

There is a lot of good information here, but I am surprised that no one mentioned taking this to the attorney general of your state. This is exactly what they are there for! They go after companies and businesses that are dishonest or negligent.
Go look up the attorney general’s website for your state right now and plan on contacting them tomorrow.
This shop was negligent and then lied to you on top of it. They have potentially destroyed a very expensive vehicle because of that- and worse, they put the safety of people on the road at risk. How is it we all have the same story about these drive in oil change places and they still operate this way? Bring it to the attorney general. Nobody should be treated like this.

Ok. Quick update. Got the video from my shop back and it’s awesome. They did a really good job with it. Clearly shows old oil wasn’t drained and even the filter was filthy. I’ve sent that video to JL via email and requested that I be called back to discuss the situation. That was yesterday. No call today. I’ll be calling them and emailing again tomorrow. Good idea on the Attorney General.

Also, shop is working on a quote as to what they recommend be done to the truck. Ie Transmission and Engine. Not sure what that looks like yet.

It's going to be tough to prove engine damage. Or transmission damage for that matter, if the truck now operates correctly. Take it apart? Expert testimony?

Edit: how does this even happen?
Tiny trans drain plug with short threads, pan shape, pan location, fluid color, fluid smell, dipstick after filling engine.... There are a dozen red flags. No filter change??

They are not going to take you seriously until you’re represented by an attorney.

If you are trying to pursue some type of financial retribution, doing this alone is a bad idea - you need to have an attorney. Even the fact that you shared the video without representation is probably going to be an issue......they are a HUGE corporation and likely have legal representation either employed for them or on retainer. They won't "settle" anything that could be construed as setting precedent for future customers filing similar grievances. Like it or not, they will take you much more seriously with an attorney. They can afford to wait you out too. You are a number to them - ONE customer with a gripe. And whether legit or not, they are not going to pay you to go away. You will have to prove that they did wrong and that what they did caused damage necessitating financial consequence.
