I’m a 30 year commercial machine mechanic. I want to hear everything the engine is doing. A person will eventually relate to it and will notice any nuances that may alert to something not being right. I often think I may hear something hinky and will turn off the radio and listen. It may only be a leaf caught in the door but I want to identify any sound that is not “normal”. I also recognize I can be slightly OCD, so for me….Artificial engine sounds is a horrible idea. Almost to the point of “what were they thinking?”

We have active noise cancelling (ANC) too! In addition to engine sound enhancement (ESE). I turned off ESE but not ANC. I should try turning it off too and see how it sounds. I too like natural sounds.

Wow that much difference! I guess I’ll leave it alone. I’m 67…too much noise while driving bugs me too! :(

It not artificial noise. Toyota says it is a transducer mounted in the engines intake manifold and fed thru the JBL system. So to your point, you might be able to hear something going wrong. For those that have spun main bearings, wonder what the heck that sounded like? Probably wouldn’t have your foot in it at that point so no noise coming through.

What kind of noises did you notice with this off? I don't know what noises they were hoping to cancel out. I personally wouldn't mind a little more intake noise, but don't really like the "enhanced sound" either.

You hear less of everything. It's hard to describe. Road / engine / potholes kinda stiff. You still hear it but at about 35% of normal. Make sense ? Passenger talking is normal sound, radio is normal, tires thumping on the highway is deadened a bit

Shut it all off a few days ago. Noise cancelling and fake engine crap. It's surprising how quiet the cab is now. Almost miss it but it's fake. I'd rather hear the DD exhaust in the future without it being muddied up

I asked my dealer and they said they can't do it. I said I will do it myself and he said that could void my warranty

"Void the warranty" That's hilarious. Agree with finding another stealership. Your warranty is in no danger

For the people that bought the carista device, did you buy the carista obd or did you spring for the Evo model? I’m curious to know if it’s worth the extra 30 to buy the Evo over the regular

I bought the OBD. It worked great on the Tundra. I also used it on my wife's Lexus to get the temperature for a transmission fluid change.

If anyone is in the Parker Colorado area, I'd be willing to meet up and let you use my Carista OBD2 on your truck.

It literally takes about 10 minutes to turn off the annoying seat belt warnings, fake engine noise, and make a necessary tweak to the HVAC system. There's a bunch of other stuff you can customize too, if you want.

Is the general consensus if you like quiet and non-artificial noises to also disable the Automatic Noise Cancellation feature? Or is this feature beneficial with the Engine Sound Enhancement disabled?

I can't see why you'd need the noise canceling either way IMO. The cab is whisper quiet with both shut off. You can hear the raspy V6 and turbos a little better is all

I have my fake engine noise off but noise canceling on, the quieter the better

If your truck sounds at all like a V8, your hearing it ;). It's pumped through the JBL speakers if you have em.

I just bought one for $6.50 on Amz just to test a Bluetooth method vs my $30 WiFi one and by God it works great!! The Bluetooth is better because you don’t loose your CarPlay WiFi connection like I would with the WiFi OBD adapter. *Note - I thought this BT adapter was faulty because I couldn’t see it in my iPhone BT device list for pairing. No pairing needed. Just start your fav Scanning App and set it to pair to a BT ELM327 device and it connects on its own. Awesome deal.

Must have the JBL Premium system with the subwoofer for the plumbed in intake noise.

I turned mine off, it was just too loud in my opinion. Now, if I had the option to lower the volume of the effect, I might have kept it on.
