Avoid buying a Tundra that was used with a Plow?

There is a Tundra near me with low miles, 2013 with 70k miles and the Toyota dealer wants 23k OTD for it and will not budge. I test drove the truck and it drives nice but what is concerning to me is that it has a snow plow bracket in the front (Boss name brand) and snow plow controls inside. The carfax shows no accidents and two owners, both for personal use. The first owner owned it 8 years and the second owner for over a year.

I understand that a snow plow can stress the transmission. Should I avoid buying a Tundra that had been used with a snow plow even if it was just for small time use like plowing their own driveway? I see many Tundras with snow plows and they seem to not sell well.

    Any insight would appreciated.

Personally I would not buy a truck that was used for plowing. They take a beating.

With snow equipment in place, another issue I would be concerned of would be rust on the frame and body.
Be sure to address that if you end up wanting the truck, but I personally would stay away from it.
Even though 2013 does have factory transmission cooler and likely the work environment is way colder than most, but again it is a big strain again what it was made for.

If a third party inspection can be done, and it checks out OK without too much major repairs needed in the near future, then go for it.

    Function before sparkle.
Unless you want to buy a jacket with a Mr Plow logo and make some side cash, I would suggest to keep looking.

There is a 0.0 chance I would buy any truck that was used as a plowing vehicle. Way too much wear and tear to a lot of components that I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable dealing with. I am sure some individuals / companies take care of their plow vehicles, but it cannot negate the stress placed on the truck.

They sent me a video showing the truck up on a lift and the mechanic saying how well maintained the truck was. It drove like a new truck but I did not get a chance to take it on the highway tho. I might get it inspected by independent mechanic.

They sent me a video with the truck on a lift showing the frame and undercarriage in excellent shape, just la little surface rust. The Toyota dealership also sent me a full inspection report, it just showed they replaced rear axle diff vent. I would definitely get an inspection. Do you think I should avoid taking it to another Toyota dealership for a pre-purchase inspection? Or do you think Toyota dealerships are in cahoots with each other? I like using a Toyota dealership master tech because they know exactly what to look for with these Tundras and they provide a video of anything problems found.

Actually, I thought it would be cool to clear my own driveway when the snow hits hard. It doesn't appear to be a work truck, it is too clean to be one. Could be a side hustle driveway snow plow truck.

It doesn't appear to be a work truck, probably a side hustle driveway or personal snow plow truck for their driveway. What if I take it to get fully inspected at a Toyota master tech and there are no issues?

It's not the miles, in this case it's the hours. I assure you there on many hours of wear on that truck.

Carfax says it was always a personal vehicle but I know many people lie and use it for business on the down low. However, it is definitely not a fleet truck.

Those 70k are hard 70k, so prob closer to 140k on it (not bad) but all the stress on the ball joints, trans, bearings, etc to push around so much weight

My first thought is the front coilovers are probably shot, the rear leafs are flat from the counter weight that it needs.

Surface rust is on the surface now, but won't be later. Transmission and transfer case are probably beat too.

Unless you are getting this for a screaming deal, I would spend a bit more money on a pavement princess.

eh somebody else's trouble now, it was just sold yesterday. It was a RCSB. It is impossible to find a great low mile rust free RCSB 4x4, most down south or out SW are 2wd or a long bed. I guess you can always have the surface rust blasted off and have it coated.
