I was told there is a recall about the transmission (trucks will advance while in neutral)

The did (10,000 miles) service and the did the recall

Man,,,, this thing is jerking and skipping a bit when acelerating . Feels like the Trans doesn't know what to do.

It's drivable but not very smooth. ( I hope this doesn't mess with the plugs or anything else)

I asked the service about other complaints, and none so far on the recall.

Im headed back in a few days to reverse what they did,,, NOT GOOD>

Has anyone else been thru this?

Its the transmission relearning your driving habits. Its normal. Drive it for 100-150 miles and it should be returning to usual. My old tacoma did it, and my tundra did it too on the parking brake recall.

Accelerate from 0-60 at mild to moderate throttle several times to relearn transmission shift characteristics. They should have done that once they completed the transmission control module reflash. Obviously didn't.

I noticed the same thing. I hope it gets back to being totally smooth again.

I have been doing this, thinking it would relearn if that is the issue... Its getting worse?

Does it really take 150 miles to relearn if that's the case? That will take a long time driving around here in town lol..
It's pretty jerking at a slow, steady increase of speed. Thank you for info btw

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Well if slow and steady isn’t making it learn, then the correct answer is clearly to drive it like you stole it. One of two things happens: the transmission control unit learns, or you blow up the transmission. If you blow up the transmission, you can get a new one. Toyota can’t fix or replace any major component these days in a reasonable amount of time so you can probably lemon law the truck while you wait!

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that mine is much better. The first drive it was really noticeable. I just went out for groceries after having the truck sit for a couple of days, and it feels pretty much like normal and smooth. I am one week out from the service, maybe 100 miles or so.

Whatever they did to satisfy the recall, I guarantee you that they will NOT undo it. I would have the same thoughts if I were in your shoes but that's wishful thinking.

Damn, this thread is making me second guess my scheduled appointment for the trans recall. Mine is so silky smooth, and it doesn't roll in neutral. I'd hate to mess that up.

Regarding the "learning" theory, my truck had 12 miles on it when I picked it up new. Why didn't I notice this transmission learning curve then?

Had my Transmission recall (ecu flash) and don't have any symptoms you describe. Runs and shifts fine. Wonder if your ecu flash had an electrical system voltage hiccup during the flash?

Had my recall done last week, I did notice some funky shifts when leaving the dealership, shifting at a higher than normal RPM.....But as others have said, its part of the relearning process.....Mine is doing great now, I also never had the neutral lurch.

Break in period, keeping it under 4000 rpms, not realizing it cause youre happy you are in a brand new truck, could also have an initial setup from the factory and doesnt need to relearn from scratch per se. Could be a number of things. I didnt experience it initially either but i bought my truck with 350 miles on it. Dealer trade.

My wife drove it today and told me it was hiccuping when accelerating.

Im a little surprised the service guide didn't mention the truck relearning when I mentioned the transmission issues?

I will find out Sat... Maybe they will let me talk to the tech and see what he or she says.

I would tend to agree with this. After my recall, I noticed there was extra miles on my odometer than when I brought it in(about 10). Suspect the techs took it out to do just that... relearn.

I've been doing some research on this transmission "learning" thing.

I'm reading that it's a myth that the transmission "learns to adapt to your driving style". The transmission adapts to changes in the hydraulic fluid (the ATF) due to age, contaminants, etc. and it adjusts how the hydraulic pressure is applied to the clutches that shift the gears. Apparently there are several different torque tables/maps the TCM can select from. It should not take 100-150 miles for the proper tables to be selected. It should happen almost instantaneously after a re-flash of the TCM.

At least that's what my research shows. Please correct me, If I'm wrong.

Wow, some more info. I appreciate that. Interesting. I wish I knew a Toyota tech here online to get some inside info.

It's my understanding that upon a TCM or ECU flash, it's the AI in the computer that is basically reset back to new and instantly starts logging the new data. The transmission is just waiting for data from the TCM (to be told what to do). When you only do in town stop and go driving it really doesn't have a chance to see the full range of available information (all gears and wide range rpms). Usually the tech will get on the highway and rip it up to 75 a couple times and have the truck go through every gear and essentially setting the new performance parameters for the AI and you're good to go. Your truck will continue to try and optimize as you drive but doesn't start off like that.

If you put it into S you bypass the AI. See how it drives in S but don't drive it like there's an egg on gas. Let it work! I think you'll be fine

    @ryanwgregg will chim in.
Just had mine done today and same thing. Fun y how it's in first gear as soon as you stop now then go no throttle lag now just a gear bang here and there lol. Time will tell!
Feels like it's in tow haul mode.

I can understand the relearning thing. But I would hope that the dealership would've performed a test drive, and maybe warn the OP of this condition.

The dealer is about 20 minutes from the Interstate (only place to get the truck through all gears) Bad traffic here in Sarasota (Blue Hair Snow Bird Season,,,,,no offense to those who do this)

anyways,,, they don't have time to get to interstate,,, there got to be another way if indeed the trucks has to do this to "relearn its thanga"

Kind of off topic, but how do you have a "2023 1794 TRD Pro?"

You either have a 1794 -or- a TRD Pro. Maybe you have a 1794 w/ the TRD Off Road package? OR do you have two Tundras?

    Enquiring minds want to know!
