After 2 years, my wife and I are debating trading in my basic '22 SR5 (sport) and upgrading to a '24 Platinum. We originally bought the truck for my use with work hauling a pallet or two of materials weekly, however we found that we are using it more and more, and I am driving it daily to work because there seems to always be a need.

I am looking at a Platinum with AVS because 99% of my hauling is on-road, but we are also missing out on a lot of comforts with how much we are using it; heated/cooled seats, AVS, larger screen, better seats, etc.

My dealer is offering me close to what I bought the truck for, so it would be about $10k to upgrade, plus I get to start over with mileage and maintenance schedule. Currently have 25k miles. Just wondering if any Platinum owners could weigh in if their purchase was worth it, or talk me out of it for any reason.

    Appreciate any feedback!

I just hate the factory tires.
*she sits level with a ton of pellets*
The air in the rear is great as I unload a ton of pellets I just hit low again and it drops back down so its easy to get those bags out.. Power running boards are a must too in my older wiser opinion. My wife appreciated the lowering as it helps some getting in and out.
My lab loves the rear window being down too!
You have to get Blue print or this conversation never happened wink wink.

Thanks for the feedback PwP. I'm no spring chicken either, and with lower back issues I think AVS and the power steps would be a huge help. Beautiful pup too! The back seat gets more use from my 2 dogs than anyone else.

*Edit* How are the seats pwp? Might not be able to compare them to the SR5 I have, but is the lumbar and more adjustability helpful? I find my basic cloth seats surprisingly comfortable, but I have been in rental cars where the lumbar was more of a hinderance than a help.

Been looking for an upper trim to test drive, but unfortunately all the incoming fleet is spoken for and not able to be test drove.

I love my platinum except the remote start it shuts off after you open the door. New tires next Saturday.

I never considered anything but a platinum so like all the bells and whistles

adjustable lumber is really nice as is AVS and load leveling rear , power running boards and power bed step are really handy as well

go for it if your getting that much on the trade , it’s worth it

Appreciate it Borla. I added bolt-on running boards and manual back step to my SR5, so power running boards would be nice. Any risk of them having issues with MN snow? My father-in-law has a GMC with power running boards that are forever in the deployed position.

Had my plat for 4 months and absolutely love it. The plat trim is definitely worth the cost with all the cameras, pvm, power running boards and bed step, comfy heated and cooled seats plus the seat/ mirror memory if you share the truck. I can't tell you how much more I use the bed step than i thought i would. If you're already spending this much on a truck you might as well get the whole package. My only gripe or worry is the plastic door trim possibly breaking this summer since it gets to 110 where I live but I'm thinking of just removing it anyway.

You'll never likely say you wish you didn't have comfy seats, sunroof, cameras, etc; but saved $50/ month on your payment. Also a good time to change your cab/ bed size if needed. I'm so glad I got the 6.5 bed.

For $10k, definitely do the upgrade to Platinum if for no other reason than to get a more comfortable, powered seat for your wife. Consider the 6.5' bed.

Also, suggest you get a quote from Carvanna for your SR5 to see how that stacks up against the dealer's.

The seats took a little to get used to (slightmy firmer). The lumbar adjustment is awsome as it goes up and down too and I was not aware of that and to my surprise it's a game changer! Memory funaction is nice as I just had some service updates done and the tech must of been 8 feet tall as I'm almost 6ft and couldn't reach my steering wheel.

ya if you park outside I could see the boards getting iced up at times , there is a switch you can make them stay in or auto ect so perhaps in extreme weather they stay in

im not totally sure as I have a fully insulated and heated garage

Unlike Ford Toyota keeps it simple with that switch. No need to turn truck on and dig In
    to all the menus!
Use this every year and the Ford had no issue's in Pa's nasty roads.

10K plus your truck seems like a fair deal to me for a Platinum. Go for it.

I was set of getting a Platinum myself.... Saw the interior of the 1794 and for basically the same amount I went for it.

Got to be careful with spraying that stuff around the rubber bushings etc. Rubber and Fluid film are NOT friends.

All I can find is none oil resistant rubber/seals may exhibit swelling. Not sure if the PRB have any type of seals in them. Thanks for that info as I never read the can.

What were the differences and changes that you preferred? All I'm tracking is the leather interior and some badging.
    Thanks for the feedback.

To be fair my2022 had gremlins. Tailgate popped open getting on hwy and stuff in the bed fell ou. Bad accelerator lag. Multiple problems with one of the keys. Reprogrammed the truck about 9 times. If you left the "stay in lane system" on it made loud noises almost continuously the lane monitors were wrong quite often. Constant check back seat errors. Phone start worked half the time

2024 1794 has much nicer interior, heads up display and everything works

I had to have all black interior, does the 1794 have it now?

Sat in an sr5 and then my Platinum. It's a huge upgrade. I have avs and load leveling with 6.5ft bed. Love it and wouldn't get any other trim

I had a white 2018 1794. My father-in-law wanted it, so I started looking around. I have always preferred black leather, but Toyota never offered an off-road package on a Platinum. 2024 is the first year that a TRD Off-Road package has ever been offered on a Platinum trim. I found a Magnetic Grey one, and with the package, the trim just blended in with the truck—no chrome. I couldn't be happier. The black leather inside has blue stitching.

People who live by the ocean buy Cappys!

All kidding aside what ever trim you decide on the AVS and load leveling is key and definitely get the hybrid (MG) too!
    Good hunting

All good suggestions in this thread.

I don't understand one of thing - how can your dealer offer you close to your purchase price for trade in for a 2 year old Tundra? Usually trade in price drops about 20-30% in the first year.

I've been calculating, and I would loose about $10-15k to trade in my 2022 and upgrade to 2024

I'd be questioning this deal. I'm seeing about 9k off Plat and 1794 Hybrids based on Jim's facebook updates out here on the east coast.

If they are not giving a solid discount on the new truck, then they are basically pocketing 9k on the selling price of the new truck to offset the higher trade allowance.

Otherwise, if the deal comes with a decent discount on the new truck, I'd jump on this deal. AVS is a must and is a very useful feature.

    The numbers worked out to:
Purchase price $49,000 for the truck (I got the 100k mi warranty too, but I believe I eat that price)
Trade in estimate: $44k + $500 special if used towards another purchase
Purchase price of '24 Platinum: $68,500
Dealership specials: -$1500 repeat customer, -$5000 incentives including if financed through Toyota.

So you are correct my initial $10k was a little low (roughly 16k if my sleepy napkin math works) since I was including my additional cash down.

Didn't mean to misrepresent the offer. Wrote down that number after coming out of the meeting at the dealership.

For my Tundra I used Corrosion Free Rust Cure Formula 3000. Also bought a spray gun kit to apply it and use an older small compressor.
Whether it be Fluid Film or this stuff, dont do it on a windy day! This stuff is made for coating metal not people.

You can ask the selling dealer to refund you your warranty if it's not used. Make sure you do that... You may have to chase the finance guy around to get the refund but they must refund it, even if portion of it was already used...

Is the 68500 the msrp price of platinum from the window sticker, or has dealer add ons and dealer markup above msrp?

Oh, and make sure you get few more loan quotes from other banks and credit unions, so you know lowest apr you can qualify for. Even though loan may be through Toyota, dealer can add on extra percent points on top of it to make more profit to offset any discounts offered to you. Loan rate is negotiable!

And don't buy extended warranty from your dealer, Jerry has lowest pricing here on the forum for FACTORY Toyota platinum warranty. Don't buy aftermarket warranty.

What’s the going rate these days like 2k?

OP: Yes it’s worth it for 10k. The cameras and the lights and bed view…the auto running boards and auto seat positioning auto side mirror folding…it all comes together to make a really nice truck to drive and enjoy
