Has anyone installed S&B intake on the 3rd gen Tundra? If so, would you recommend it? I cannot find any video reviews online about them. I stuck between S&B or AFE Momentum GT.

Thank you for the feedback. You wouldn't happened to have a video of how it sounds like would you? Some text reviews that I saw says that you can't hear any turbo sounds anymore than the TRD filters. How would you compare it to the stock filters or TRD filters(if you had TRD filters before S&B intakes)?

Oh really? Dang. So I'm probably better off just keeping my TRD filters then. With the filters, I was able to hear a little more turbo spool with the windows down and very minimal power gains. Thank you for your response.

I took off the honeycomb screen inside the airboxes and got a ton more noise with drop ins

Here's a vid of my truck when I had the intake kits

If your guys' kit includes ram air tubes then Id expect them to perform better than OEM or other replacement boxes for sure.

They definitely perform better than OEM. I'll be posting our dyno graphs soon once we have them ready!

OP, if you're deciding between S&B or AFE, both are good brands but we work with S&B a lot and only have good things to say!

What you need to be asking yourself is what will protect my engine better. Let's face it, these are 6000lb bricks and not sports cars. Unless your doing something drastic to your engine, the price for a CAI on a truck that already has a CAI isn't worth it. Also, every company publishes HP/TQ numbers, I don't think I have ever seen the same company publish filtration numbers. Yeah great, you gained 10hp at the cost of less air filtration.

I recently installed a SC and it came with a KN air filter. First thing I did was throw it in the trash and bought an OEM filter.

I had the TRD filters. I hear the turbos breath more with the S&B intakes for sure along with my JB4 tune.

One thing I noticed about S&B, they have inserts for the mass air flow sensor. Perhaps if in the near future if a tune comes out it can take advantage of the additional flow provided by the intake tubes.
When I have an opportunity I’ll film the sound. I’m pleasantly pleased with these intakes from S&B. Awesome quality and customer service.

they also post their flow numbers.

In all fairness. The new Stillen CAI, which there is a group buy currently looks phenomenal.

    I’d go with Stillen.

Great! Yes, I would definitely like to hear how it sounds like when you get a chance to film it. I did see the flow numbers which is what drawn me to it.

I'm just looking for more turbo noise. I'm not expecting a lot of power out of it because I personally think that it already has enough HP, but probably slightly better fuel economy. Definitely not racing with it lol. I know that it comes with CAI, but the air box is slightly smaller and has that honeycomb inside the bottom intake box that's blocking about 15-20% of the drop in filter. Of course I can always take it out, but I need to find a way to do so without breaking the corner tabs that holding it down.

How did you take off the honeycomb without breaking the corner tabs that's holding it down?

That's what I had in mind, but I didn't know if there was another way to take it out while preserving the tabs. I guess drilling it is then lol. Thanks.

I'd go S&B every single time. I had an S&B on my F150 and have had AFe Momentum GT's on my GX460 and LX570 and thought the S&B was better built and that the price was far more reasonable for what was a more complex intake(single intake splitting into two turbos.)

I also and an AFe intercooler for my F150 Ecoboost that was an absolute piece of garbage, but was one of the most expensive intercoolers available. I replaced it with an intercooler that was half the price and kept my intake temps 30-40* cooler than the AFE.

Granted, the AFe and S&B are pretty close on price for the 3rd Gen Tundra.

The way these trucks are tuned, they wont pick up power from an intake generally. They need to be close to maxing out the turbos to really see a gain.

Did you happen to read the rest of my post. So you don't care if you get more dirt into your engine just as long as you can hear your turbos? Alrighty then, I will see my self out.

S&B and AFe’s dry filters are very efficient. Within a couple tenths of a percent of an oem filter.

Have you seen the tests? 3rd party tested? K&N uses ISO 5011 just like other to test their filters and it been shown that K&N sucks at filtering air. They even have a scientific page about it. Yet when held up to light, you can see through it.
    https://www.knfilters.com/efficiency_testing_procedure.htm

AFE has some numbers and SB has no numbers posted on their site, at least where I searched. I ran AFE Pro dry and I thought it looked good when compared to OEM. I am actually waiting for them to release their CAI for the Magnuson 1900 SC to see the specs and test on it before I even think about buying it. It will also be the dry and not oiled filter since oiled filters have also been proven to be an issue.

I have seen K&N testing. Thats why I didnt say that K&N's filters are very efficient. Ironically, K&N makes the TRD filters don't they?

There was def an ISO 5011 test document for S&B's filters floating around and I believe I saw one for AEM's filters as well(might have been the same document)
