Got a notification the dealer had a limited 2019 under 50k miles that seemed pretty nice for $43k. Went to go check it out and it seemed like a decent truck, so I asked the out the door price (I don’t play the monthly payment game). They came back with a piece of paper that said 52k and I laughed. I gave them a number and they came back a KBB sheet that said the truck was worth $45k and a paper saying they’d sell it for $51k. Immediately got in my car and drove off. Are people seriously paying that much? I had found the original window sticker in the glovebox and it was $51k back in the day. I also found the old owners registration card and I’m half tempted to try to contact them and ask what they got on trade in. Just seems wild. Guess I’m waiting longer to get in a gen 2.5

I'm guessing they paid 40k trade.

Traded my wife’s 2020 Silverado LTZ in after a year and 15k miles. Few weeks later checked on it and it was listed for higher than I paid for it brand new off the lot.

The 2.5s will go up in value and hold it well.

Good thing too! All of us 2.5 owners are too broke to afford the king of all trucks - the uber-reliable 3rd Gen.

My guess is people whose vehicles got totaled and have little choice - also, commercial electricians cause they’re making $76 hour in my neck of the woods.

As a poor, I approve this message.

Funny thing is when I bought my 21 pro in the end of 2021 money wasn't the deciding factor in choosing the 21, for me it was the 5.7.

Yeah, I’m sure someone will. I told them they’re crazy, and maybe someone will pay that, but it won’t be me.

They were really trying to push the gen3s hard so I had entertained it too when I told them to knock the 2019 price down, and they came back with a $72k out the door price on a 63k 2024 Tundra limited. Walked right out and no one tried to stop me.

Same here. However, the billionaire 3rd Gen owners said it was because I was too poor to afford the truck that is “better in every single way” so that must be true!

I can never find white 2018+ 4x4 Limited/platinum/1794s and I’m centrally located between (3) dealerships. I just happened to check the other dealer near me and they just listed a 1794 pending price, so I guess we try again haha

I’ve been hunting for one since a kid ran a stop sign and totaled my old (supposed to be forever) car. Unfortunately that car had depreciated more than I was hoping for, and I was never going to sell it. Luckily I scooped up a 2000 Toyota echo for $650 that I will cling to until I find the right tundra. Glad I’m not in that bad of a bind

We have put ourselves in this predicament. We are the ones to blame, period. I have seen members on here trade in a 1 year old or less truck to get the next model up because the next model up has a vibrator. It is amazing how we have been conditioned to want to keep up with the Jones. Hell even Toyota made a Jones video, if that ain't a insult, I don't know what is.
I leased my 2020 for $383@36m 12k miles. When it was time to trade in and get a new lease, they wanted $650-700@36m 12k miles. Told them they where fucking crazy. So then I asked about buying out and refinancing my truck through them. Fuckers wanted to add $1000 for dealer fee. Again told them to go fuck themselves. Got a great used vehicle rate and I still pay less than a new truck. Oh, and the new 2023 SR5 optioned like mine was going to be $11-12k more than my truck.
Maybe, just maybe if people did buy at these ridiculous prices and let them sit at the dealers, we wouldn't be paying that much. But you can't help stupid.

this is a great point. When we left my wife was pretty mad at the experience. I told her they will keep doing this so long as people keep paying the prices they ask, and they likely will. I see people cry that they have no money, but they have a new car, new phone, designer clothes, eat out every day; and it’s truly a wild world we live in.

1000% correct. I live in S.Fla, you should see the amount of idiots down here that will literally go bankrupt just to show off.
With the money I saved myself on not buying a 3rd gen, I did spoil myself and bought a SC.

The SC 5.7 is like the direct answer to the 3rd gen. Increased mpg, power, reliability. Shit I wana SC my 21 pro. If the 3rd gen would have proven reliable I would have been looking this year to potentially pick one up, I normally wait it out when major changes occur for exactly the reasons we're seeing in the Gen 3's. But going on several years later it isn't looking good, SC 5.7 instead.

Yeah, late 2021 i remember seeing a new 2021 in dealer with 52k sticker price.

I was seeing trucks 3-5 years old at that time with 100k miles or more listing in the 40s. Prices have been stupid for a few years now.

at least 3-5 years ago interest rates weren’t starting at 6%+ on a used car.

I was going to suggest you could carry the echo around in the bed of your Tundra when you find one… but that mayyyy be over payload and then we’d have to start up another payload thread.

Toyota just sent out notice to I believe all that have a 3.5 (Toyota&Lexus), about the issues with engine bearings. Seems it's only 22-23 but there have been reports of 24s also having bearing issues. It's a know fact that turbo engines work harder than N/A engines. So even long term reliability will be an issue.

Yea I don't disagree on power adders shortening engine life span. But a SC'd 5.7 would probably outlast a 3.4tt and definitely doesn't suffer from catastrophic bearing failures. And yes, there are confirmed 2024 with bearing failures.

New Tundras are sitting on the lots waiting to be sold around here. 6 deep ..Even a few Tacomas stacking up, seeing discounts on Tundras. Drove a new Tundra just to have an idea, haha- the seasoned salesman who Ive known said don’t buy it, he had seen 3 with engines replaced to long time customers. Unhappy ones.

Anyone who pays msrp is an idiot.

I bought mine from a recently divorced lady. Under 20k miles. Initially she had it listed at 48,999....I think we went back and forth for a couple months. She was obviously in need of money and we finally agreed on 32k.

How someone else didn't buy it during all the back and forth, I'll never know.
