    Ladies and Gents,
Bought a 2024 capstone and with in 20 days Company did the recall. So now I'm thinking about how I can document things. Was thinking about oil testing and maybe even saving and cutting open the first few filters to document any metal. Does anyone have any other ideas about what else I could be doing?

Not a bad idea that you have already although since the recall is out (for gas engines only at this time). I doubt what you're doing will help in anyway besides letting you know if you have one of the bad ones. Documenting it is great and I'll probably do the same thing but it won't cause Toyota to do anything more than what they are already doing. Throw a few magnets on you oil pan near the drain plug, pull them off after you've shut down the engine and before pulling the drain plug. It may draw out some flakes that may have bypassed the filter.

Capstone is a hybrid. Currently none of the hybrids are in the recall.

I would start shopping for a low mileage 2021 before they are gone!

    Lots of stuff!
According to Toyota they fixed the cleaning process over a year ago. And no hybrids have been included in the recall at all.

While it may seem a bit unknown at this point, do write down oil changes and if you increase the intervals or do the changes your self, keep the receipts for the oil and filters and note the mileage.

Let's hope that Toyota has the cleaning process figured out and that the machining debris turns out to be the culprit and not come other reason. Fingers crossed!

If the engine fails, the only documentation required is the receipts showing toyota performed (or you) the service to the owners manual recommendation. Any addition service{s} perrformed will not matter in decion of any warrenty coverage.

Check behind the rear seats for the tie downs and other accessories. That's where mine were.

Just save anything you did just incase. I don't see toyota playing any games. By the way my 2023 Plat 9500 miles on a 1/8 tank of med grade half throttle blip just accelerated with alittle tire spin then ripped 2nd gear(bark) in normal mode a/c on.
Bad ass so please enjoy your Capstone!

I believe the recall was for 2022/2023 engines only. If you have a 2024 you should be fine.

Maybe he doesn't or didn't. However, now's the time to stop thinking about the problem and start thinking about the solution!

Yep, they can joke and laugh now. However, when their second engines go to crap at a bad time it might change their tune. Even worse, when they get their trucks totaled by inattentive drivers and insurance cuts them checks for about 18-24 grand less than they owe due to low resale value. Ouch!!
Seriously guys, when given lemons, make lemonade!

Love the recent drama. Truth be told any gen3 owner who did even the smallest bit of research was aware of the risk.

if the gen2 wasn’t so damn ugly I would have bought one instead!

I can't understand why all the 2nd gen guys are on the 3rd gen talking shit? Buy one and get involved, or go live your life in inferior equipment, we don't care. I would bet money no one with a 3rd Gen cares what's happening in the 2nd Gen forum.....but holy hell are you 2nd geners living your lives over here.

And I would buy another 3rd Gen tomorrow before EVER buying another 2nd Gen.

Easy there Krusty, don't blow an engine over my posts. The superiority complex on display by you and others in here is quite hilarious. The fact you have to go so hard on the 2nd gen to prop up your 3rd gen speaks volumes honestly. 3rd gen has its brightspots, I don't need to (and did not) put down 3rd gens to validate keeping my 2019.

Why the hell am I here? I drifted over to read about the engine due to liking the GX550 and at one time considering adding the new Sequoia to my fleet, both have the same powerplant as most know. Being some poor schmuck in a rat bagged 2nd gen I guess that's hard to comprehend though.

    Stay classy Krusty
