Pretty much the 2nd gen got americanized. Rounder shaped body, bigger engine, a bit faster, worse fuel economy, bigger dimensions (yet less usable space inside). My initial draw towards the 1st gen was the quirky box shape and the diminutive size of it. One of my friends has a 2nd gen, and there’s no way i could fit half the stuff i carry in one of them. I also have an 2002 econoline e350 (5.4 v8) van for hauling other larger loads, but that thing doesn’t get that great of mileage.

And FYI, the 1st gen autos are gutless when compared to the manual transmission. I was searching fir a few years for a 6 speed close ratio manual transmission that’s behind a JDM Corolla “black top” engine. It’s been documented (once) that it’s possible to mix and match the Corolla tranny with a xB bell housing.
I almost pressed “buy it now” on an ebay transmission, but it didn’t come with the shifter cables. At this point in my life i kinda gave up on doing that conversion. It wouldn’t be difficult for me to do, but i’d rather spend my $$$$ on my other vehicle projects.

My buddy got a first gen xB in college when they were newish, and as a big guy myself, I rode in the backseat and it was spacious.

Let me get me flame suit on........

I used mine as a work table while I worked on me Ferd. I swapped out the useless to me coin holder on the dash for a voltmeter with 2 QC ports and 1 PD port. Nice!

Is it just me, or does the Monroe shock body appear to be slightly narrower than the OEM?

Oh don't worry, you'll be replacing the quickstruts in 5k-10k miles anyway, so .... you'll spend the same as 4600s before you know it.

Well hopefully the financial situation will change by then. Those old ones were not OEM btw they were some cheapo aftermarket that the previous owner had on em, I beat the crap out of them over 40k miles. Finally replaced and looking forward to beating up these craptastic Monroes. @shifty` I think it was you who had a great writeup in a different thread on how the power of the dollar is F'ed up and millennials without parental support are living the struggle.

The knobs do look great at night too. These are a win if they don’t break quickly. I have no feeling they will unless the material used is more brittle than it appears, but seems very quality at this point. Finishes are nice, the scallop on the knobs even matches the rest of the scalloped buttons on the panel.

I think I need to grease my knob. That center one feels like I’m fighting the cable.

My coworker kept whining about the fuel efficiency of his first Gen that he was going to use for hunting. Found this and sent it to him. Lol.

My tundra came with Quick Struts. I’m keeping them if the time being. I have no complaints with their performance, but at the same time i can only compare them to my set of worn OEM Tokico struts. The Monroe shock body is the same diameter at OEM. The Monroe actually has a larger diameter shock piston though! I think it was a full 2mm larger diameter when i measured them last summer. When i get some extra $$$ at some point i’ll replace Monroe with Bilstein, but i’m currently in no rush.

My sister said my niece and nephew really wanted to cook out at my house for the 4th. And I said sure no problem I got a small package of fire works. Apparently she thought I meant sprinklers and snap caps and some smoke bombs and burnny worms....... Cause she was like HOLY FUCK seeing this
    IMG20240629221453.jpg

Not understanding this is a small pack. She's only been out of NYS for 3 years. I told here next year imma get the extra smedium one which like double the size of this one

Made it on a 700 mile trip yesterday with no major issues. 214k and still chugging along. The valve cover gaskets seemed to have dealt with the oil leak and oil level is still normal after the drive. Only thing I noticed is the PS fluid is down below the minimum. I prob should top this off. I didn't check it before leaving...should be easy enough to just add a bit.

Truck looks awesome. Leaking at the rack? Or maybe the check valve to the intake?
