We were talking about a specific issue on a 22 with 103k miles. If that was confirmed as the bearing failure (debris)

Ya, I think it says they will contact the affected truck owners by the end of July. I guess they have a list of VINs?

Probably a letter to say there is a recall on your truck and they are preparing parts and instructions or something like that. Sort of like the fuel line recall wording I would suspect.

Still waiting to hear more official word from Toyota.

In unrelated news we’ve been informed that the RR plans to store a bunch of autoracks on our subdivision. About 11.5 miles of main track 2 will be devoted to this. For a roughly 80ft car, that comes out to 754 of them, minus 1000ft to clear a few private crossings. Figure room for 740 or so. Each one holds about 26 cars or trucks. So capacity to move 19,240 automobiles from ports or factories is about to get laid up in storage.

Guess the auto market is slowing down. Sucks to be a guy or gal who bought a new or used vehicle the last couple of years. Paid too much and now the used value is coming back down to reality.

Inland port storage facilities are the rage now. Not so sure it is related to the auto market as much as ports are very competitive now and this is a way to clear dock space quicker to unload more ships. Dredging channels, rebuilding bridges higher, inland cargo storage no $ amount is too big for the responsible state to throw money to win the port arms race.

Near me is an abandoned few hundred acres that used to be car auction storage that is now car storage for rent. What goes on there correlates with the car market. When COVID hit it went from empty to cars stacked in a few weeks. When car market went vertical it reversed and emptied out in days. Been empty ever since as vehicles were shipped to dealerships. Kia and Hyundai used to rent it when they would blow out end of model year production to hoard for plants to turnover for new models. The Germana would do some holding there for stuff coming in the port. Ride by it weekly and just a handful of vehicles in trailers talking a rest. So seems nobody is stacking vehicles they can't sell here for this region.

The recall DOES NOT state that Toyota will release the remedy at the end of July. It states that they will be sending out INTERIM LETTERS to owners no later than today, July 15, 2024.

Go here and click on RECALL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT under the Debris in Engine May Cause Stall

This is a very interesting document that explains the entire chronology that Toyota went through. First time I've seen it.

Dang, I ignored that Ramen guy three locked threads ago. You all did a good job engaging with him, he probably had to leave his basement in northern Colorado for a long walk in the park.

I’m really impressed with everyone else on here tho. We have our differences in opinion and experience and sometimes we get frustrated with one another. All of which is perfectly normal and acceptable. I mean we are all ultimately hoping for the same thing (I hope). It was heartwarming to see all of you guys stand together to call out uninformed and ignorant ramblings. If we’re going to disagree, at least have a logical argument.

It mostly sucks if you are moving out of your vehicle prematurely. Interesting that rail capacity is being reduced but is it a certainty its directed at automobile transport?

Especially those not controlled by Longshoremen's Union. West Coast port volume has fallen off a cliff.

Good info ! Here is what it says

The remedy is currently under development. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed July 15, 2024. A second notice will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TB07/24TA07 and 24LB04/24LA04.

Now lets see one of those letters!

Reading online from several law firms

If the following 3 conditions are met:
    A- Manufacturer issues a recall
B- The Recall is safety related
C- The manufacturer is unable to provide remedy is not available at the time of issuance
Then the manufacturer is legal required to provide a rental car to the owner

So does A+ B + = rental care eligibility for 98K Tundra owners?

Not sure if this is true, curious what others know.

Have you even read all the documents available on NHTSA?

Toyota has already issued OP codes for rental cars related to this recall.

I sent the rental car codes to Toyota Canada after they told me that they DO NOT offer this!

I don't expect to hear back from Toyota Canada or the dealership. Toyota Canada did say that they are trying to meet or exceed my expectations! I have sent 4 emails to them already. Too bad we don't have lemon laws in Canada!

The Canadian Tundra sales represents about 10% of the total 100k potentially affected engines. So our representatives at Toyota Canada only need to be 10% as good;)

The codes listed in the documentation on NHTSA are specific to the United States.

Ya, I was looking at that but the document posted on the NHTSA website from Toyota says Toyota North America at the top left and also say Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. on the right hand side.

It includes our ~10,000 engines in the trucks sold up here and added to the grand total shown on the NHTSA document totals.

Our Recall notification is pretty limited as it appears on the Transport Canada website:

    Issue:
On certain vehicles, the engine may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, metal debris could cause the crankshaft bearings to fail. If this happens, the engine may run rough or may not start. This could also cause the engine to stall while driving.
Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 3.5L twin-turbo engine.

    Safety Risk:
A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

    Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

That's all we have compared to the 5 documents posted on NHTSA. Sort of a casual approach to this situation.

There are no real documents or anything else to go by on the Toyota Canada website and this recall notice is pretty hard to find on the Transport Canada site. We really have no recourse to go back to Toyota and make rental demands. If we can get them to accept or include the other documents, we might have a shot.

In the end we need to lower our expectations to better match the product we got...

The only cargo autoracks are used for is automobiles. They’re useless for any other purpose.

First train full of them just got put away today.

We are also seeing bare table flat cars for hauling truck trailers getting laid up. I think consumers are finally running out of steam.

Seems Canadian laws pertaining to consumer protection and class action suits are almost non-existent compared to the USA. My sis had a Hyundai Santa Fe that should have been part of the engine recall years back but was not. There is a guy in our LC Club who works for Transport Canada in the section looking at vehicle safety/recalls, and I recall him telling us years ago, that of all vehicle motor manufacturers, Toyota took matters seriously, and always co-operated with them. He said Ford was the worst to deal with. Haven’t seen him in years, so wonder if Toyota is still the same.

I have access to a company that does specific satellite work to track the # of cars in mall parking lots vs the previous week, year and so on. Not dying, but a consumer slow down.
