Official Banks Power 3rd Gen Tundra Discussion

I was under the impression that the harness wasnt to power the unit, rather to control the activation of the spoiler/access canbus. I was a beta tester for that as well. I believe power comes from the MAP sensors

 

I believe so. I actually left the obd connection instead of the FAS harness. Makes for easier install/removal for me just reaching under the dash vs reaching the spoiler harness.

 

Does this include a pedal monster with different firmware?

 

Yes, Test Pilots will wirelessly receive beta firmware.

 

So you need to already have a pedal monster?

 

Well we just got done with the testing and I’m hooked on the banks pedal monster. It’s pretty dam good. I’m running city mode with level 4, just went up to level 5 today. It feels great compared to stock. The reverse safety feature is great. It detects when you go into reverse and switches back to stock so you have that really soft pedal feel for backing up. I also tried the track mode and it was insane lol you press the pedal a little and it’s pretty much floored. No reason for me to use the track mode but it’s there if I needed it. I’ll probably be adding the idash to it as well. Not that my opinion is special but I would recommend the pedal monster to anyone. With the wide variety of options it can suit any way you want the pedal to feel. Thanks again @ToyFan for giving me the opportunity to help you guys test it out.

 

My only wish is that it had a dedicated switch. I don’t really need the I dash (with all the extra info)and I don’t like using my phone to make adjustments. It would be great if perhaps they had a switch with say 4 favorites that you set using your phone, but after you set it you don’t need your phone.

 

Yeah, can definitely tell when it goes in/out of reverse safety mode. I have about a 5 second delay and can tell/see when it switches over and it's an instant noticeable difference in pedal input.

 

Also running city mode on the pedal monster and absolutely love it. I also like using tow mode with pedal monster, and dial it down when I do that. Amazingly satisfying and responsive power on tap. Using it with an idash where I’ve corrected the speed gauge with my revised tire size. Just a superb product that since the most recent Toyota neutral roll recall and transmission flash has basically eliminated my turbo lag.

 

So I was one of the testers also. The reverse safety is a cool feature. I am running mine on city and at level 2. When I tried the higher power settings I didn’t like how it was shifting. The lower settings work perfectly for me. Cleans up the dead pedal feel doesn’t eliminate it but it is way better. Super easy to install. Over all it’s a nice product and it works great! I was lucky enough to be selected to test the PedalMonster. Being able to change the throttle response curve is an absolute game changer. To anyone that is on the fence about the PedalMonster, do your self a favor and purchase it. In my opinion, you wont regret it. As @Tacotundra mentioned, it really cleans up that dead pedal feel. Makes Sport mode just that much more fun. I went as far as purchasing the iDash as well after the testing period. Being able to control the Pedal monster from the iDash is quite nice. I have used Banks products before and appreciate the time and effort that Banks puts in to each product they support.

@ToyFan Thank you again for allowing me to be apart of the pilot testing. I tried to take a look back through the thread to determine if the engineering team was able to find a solution regarding current gear information for the iDash. However, I didn't find anything. Have there been any updates on current gear PID for iDash?

 

I recently purchased an iDash and pedal monster and also would like to be able to see the actual gear instead of just PRND as well. I recently took a trip and noticed the truck was hunting for gears, would have been nice to see what gears it was cycling through so if it continues to be an issue it will help narrow down my issue.

I really like the Banks equipment I have installed in my '23 Platinum non-hybrid. This is the first time I've owned Banks equipment and I was hesitant to go "all in" up front. Initially, I bought a Pedal Monster, an iDash and a single gauge pod mount. I got one of the early pods that didn't fit so well. The first 2 pics show the single pod and the fit problem. Pod issue aside, I really liked the Pedal Monster and the iDash, but I wanted more info. @ToyFan worked with me to go from the single pod to the double and now I have a second iDash - pics attached. Much better fit.

For me, the setup removes the pedal sluggishness, but I think it may have affected the leather surface of the passenger seat because I've gotten a little side eye from my wife that I can only assume is caused by some rearward shift that she didn't expect. I don't know. I'll continue to monitor that.

The iDash gauges give me instant on the fly changes to the Monster settings and all the real time feedback I want regarding what the truck is doing. I especially like being able to know what the transmission temp is when towing. I usually run the Pedal Monster in City mode Level 7, with occasional trips into Sport and Track mode levels. I have to say, Track mode at 10 is flipping crazy (see side eye comment above). This thing doesn't need to go to 11.

Great news! New PedalMonster firmware is now available for 2022-2024 Tundras. This firmware adds Reverse Safety for those using PedalMonster as a stand-alone (controlled via mobile app). This was previously available to those with an iDash or using beta firmware. If you'd like to update, the next time you connect the mobile app to the PedalMonster, you'll see a pop-up alerting you to download the new firmware. If you don't see it or accidentally dismiss the notice, you can access the firmware by clicking on the menu in the top left corner and then scroll down to Module Info. From there, you can command the update.

As a side note, this update also adds Reverse Safety for 2014-2024 4Runner and 2024 Tacoma stand-alone PedalMonsters.

 

Is there an ETA on possible air intake yet?

 

Anyone using these to monitor speed? Really considering getting one as I’m looking to upgrade to 37s and would like to see accurate speed as I do a lot of interstate driving for road trips and this allows you to update tire sizes in the module itself. Also are there any group discounts or group buys currently on going for this? Saw a post in this thread on some earlier but wasn’t sure if still active. Thanks!

 

I use it with 35s. Works very well, verified by GPS and a handful of different radar signs on my way to work

 

@ToyFan - Is there a date for the next iDash firmware release? Looking to have oil pressure, current gear and convertor locked added to display for '23 Tundra Hybrid application. Currently on iDash_6288X_05_1_24_0, it does not have the coverage.

Has there been any progress on adding current gear to the iDash? I'd really like that option, I've noticed the only way to get it to display on instrument cluster is to move the stick to manual side.

 

got bored waiting for the wife in the parking lot, so I tinkered with the idash and color matched it to the stock electronic gauge. Love how it turned out.

 

For those of you who have installed an iDash, does it require an update to view Toyota specific PID's? I just installed one on my 2nd gen and have nearly zero options for gauge selection. Some of the initial PIDs don't even work on the 8 gauge display and are just blank. I've worked my way through the settings page and selected Toyota, adjusted some colors and brightness, etc, but I'm feeling like a simpleton not getting this gauge to display any useful information. I've been using my head unit via iDatalink to display trans temp and such for towing but wanted a dedicated gauge. I followed the link they provide on the instruction sheet. Firmware is 1.24.0

@ToyFan I'm kinda feeling a little snookered. Or like my IQ took a nosedive over night (not out of the realm of possibility). I bought a second iDash for my sequoia so I hope I can get it working.

I don't have a recipe unfortunately, it was done ad hoc.
