KO3's vs Wildpeak A/T4W vs Open Country A/TIII or Open Country RT Trail?

    Stock on my 22 limited is 265/60/20

    I'm running KO2s 275/60/20

    The standard load 115 or 119 at my current sizes for the above run about $302-$370 each. KO3 unavailable in 60

    If I go 275/65/20, the kO3s become available, and they come heavy duty by default. If I go this size in either of the other tires their duty rating is better than the 60.

    I don't do a lot of off-roading but when I do I don't want to get stuck in the mud ..
    but more importantly when I'm in the mountains I don't like the idea of sliding around in the rain or slush because my kO2s already do a crappy job in the rain even in the city.

    My question is should I try the KO3s because they said they redesigned the rain channels, or should I go with a better rain Rated Tire like the Falkens or Toyo's?
    Lastly what is the difference in the 2 different Toyo's in your opinion?

    I am looking at the Falken's or Coopers; I have run both brands previously on my Highlander, Wrangler and Outback with great results. I hate mud but for better traction, airing down to 15psi will allow you to crawl through most situations.
    I have found KO2's and Toyo's to have too stiff of a sidewall and much too heavy. My buddy that has an Alu-Cabin truck camper swears by the KO2's...:notsure:

    I just walked by a neighbor with Cooper Discoverer A/T 3's and they look almost as beefy as the KO2s, but wet traction and noise ratings are superior to everyone else. Plus 17/32 tread depth. See attached image...

    EDIT... Just realized they are the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 XLTs (not on this chart) which look more like the kO2.. but I am betting they still have the Great wet traction. Cooper has a great reputation

    I am also interested in these tires. Three ply side wall is important to me due to rocky trails off-road. Which of these have 3 ply side wall? I know the KO3s do just not sure of the others.

    I don't believe the Cooper has 3ply sidewalls like the KOs.

    The Falken Wildpeak in certain sizes has what's called an HD or something called Duraspec or other descriptive name. Go to the Falken Tire website and look up the tire you are interested in and they will show various sizes on a chart and tell you whether it's available in their heavier sidewall. I think it's a two and a half ply from what I've heard it described as, meaning that the second ply is folded over.

    The only problem with the KO3s in my size is they're E rated which might be a stiffer ride because e-rated tires are much stiffer because they are designed for trailer towing. My KO2s are D rated and I like the ride except for the crappy wet traction. As far as sidewall strength, I would go with the k03s over anything else if you're doing a lot of off-roading and you're worried about sidewall punctures.

    i'm thinking that should you that if you end up with an e-rated tire that goes 60 or 80 psi that you can air it down slightly on an empty bed for a smoother ride. If you're doing a lot of off-roading in rocky areas the k03 I think would be superior. I've had some rocks (and a few curbs unfortunately) make contact with my sidewall and I've never been worried about it because I have the Kos

    Ok. Only one I saw out of these with a 3ply sidewall is the KO3's. Thank you for the info!

    Still curious of the Toyo R/T trails though. Cant find ANY info on these on the website about sidewall thickness.

    I run a set of these on my current truck in a 255/80R17 and can confirm they are a 3 ply sidewall. I can also attest to them being a phenomenal tire in dirt and on pavement in the 12k miles i've run them. I'll likely put them on a Tundra if I ever make a deal on one. I reached out to Toyo early on and was told any of the LT branded RT Trails would be 3 ply sidewalls.

    General Grabber A/TX comes in 265/65R20 both with LT and P version. It is as sturdy as KO2. It has sipes that helps with ice. I don't remember rain problems with them, but I never run them at 50 PSI, more like 30-35. They are as good in mud in snow as KO2s. I'll be getting me second set soon.

    I used the Cooper AT3 on my 4x4 suburban. I opted for the P rated tires as it's load rating is higher than my SUV's rating. I used them for about 55000 miles over 6 years and they were awesome. I wish i could buy that for my Tundra. Now i am looking for 275/70/18 tires in P rating (my trailer is only 3500lbs). Not many options. If I was ok with stiffer ride (LT) i would have all the options. Tundra already drives stiff as is, i'd hate to compound the issue.
