I received the engine recall letter. SR5 TSS 4wdIMG_7388 (1).jpg Truck has 26,000 miles and runs excellent!
The last couple of days GMC has offered me $40,000 towards trade in...
However, I just like the way Tundras handle and feel.
A couple of questions for y'all...
Thoughts on the 2024 having issues?
    Trade in value to Toyota?

What do you have in the truck? $58k plus mods?
There aren’t a ton of them, but there are multiple recorded ‘24 failures.
If you got it all set up the way you like it, I don’t understand the appeal of trading it in at a substantial loss.

As for trade value, I traded my ‘22 SR5 about 6 weeks ago and got $45,500. Something to compare it to.

Before trading make sure to check the Carvana, CarMax etc offers (if they will make one on a car under the recall)

I happen to have a May-built ‘24 and am curious where that info is from? That was sort of my ‘gamble’ but would sleep better knowing it was confirmed.

I’ve heard that a couple of times around here. Not sure if it’s a fact or just speculation. Would love to see something to confirm that.

    Lots of stuff!
I spoke to my dealer a while ago and they don't want my truck (Aug 22 date) with only 4,600 miles.

They would help me get out of it by auctioning it where I could see about 30k loss CDN.

Trading for another brand probably makes better $$ sense since Toyota knows more about the recall and they don't want a recalled truck sitting on their lot that they can't sell.

As far a the engine being fixed, only time will tell if they got it right after May 24. I am counting on it so they can put one of those engines into my truck eventually.

YMMV but if it’s sorted the way you like, keep it. Schedule the engine replacement, be inconvenience for 30 days and have a truck with a new motor.

Tend to agree here. Perhaps keep it for a few years otherwise it will be a sizable loss. Then trade it off when they come out with a new appearance 3.5 gen.

Why trade it? You'll be getting a brand new engine (whether your truck really needs it or not). I expect you'll get a free loaner while it's in the shop.

I’ve done a lot of research on when Toyota realized the issue, when it was fixed, etc. what I’ve seen is around Sept of 2023 is when they began using a new production process to clear up the issue, which is why they didn’t recall the 24s. There have been a few 24s that have died and had issues but I don’t know what build date they are. The May 2024 thing is Toyota came out with a new part number which some speculate is the fix. But there is no confirmation for this. The only thing Toyota has confirmed is cleaning up the manufacturing process around Sept of 2023. I’m in the same boat as others as my 24 has a build date of Oct 24, bought in November. So far has 12,600 miles and knock on wood, no issues yet.

I have more miles than you, but i am happy to be getting a new engine. I am currently at 52,000 trouble free miles.

I believe one of the build dates for a 2024 failure was 11/23. But the 4 documented cases on the spreadsheet have all failed with under 10k miles. Which seems to be way below the so called “average”. But as of now I’m seeing post about 22s failing and those have even seemed to be slowing down. Could be too early to tell with the early 24 models as most will have around 10-15k miles on them. I have an 10/23 build date on my truck which I bought in February and has been solid for almost 6k miles. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
