No issues... So far! Stillen Cold Air Intake Mass Air Flow Sensor

Just installed my new Stillen TruPower Cold Air Intake (Wet) My biggest concern? The potential mass airflow sensor issue everyone on the forums is talking about. It was many 100s of miles before my MAF crapped out on me with an oiled filter. On an NA engine it will probably take longer since you aren't going into boost.

Stillen is like getting a SABM without cutting a second hole in your fender.

Recommend cutting a clear lid for easier inspection of the filter.

 

Yep the stillin tube upfront works great at pulling cool fresh air. I recorded a significant drop in Iat temps. No rain issues here at all

If it does need a new MAF it is a fairly cheap part and quick to install. I ended up switching to a dry AFE filter.

In case it does crap the bed you'll probably have to do a throttle relearn to calibrate to the new MAF. It is usually the case after disconnecting the battery long enough to trigger a reset; ~+20mins? I had a rough idle after swapping MAFs and the throttle relearn fixed everything.

I torture tested mine and never managed to get the filter wet. Unless you are water fording at speed I don't see a scenario where the block off plate is needed, it seems more necessary for dust. I think a better option is to use one of those mesh filter socks over the inlet in both water and dust scenarios.

UPDATE: No issues so far. Trip was successful, MPG has increased +1 on Highway at 75MPH on cruise control or steady speed. Overall, solid unit and the performance is 100% there.

 

I recently installed the same CAI on my Tundra but I went with the AFE dry filter.

Prior to your install, were you running the TRD air accelerator and if so, were you able to install the Stillen with it?

 

was running stock with a k&n oiled filter.

 

Update: ZERO issues. Been in rain, desert, humidity, all climates and is kicking ass

 

So there is a true performance upgrade versus the stock intake box? I know that most of the CAI's out there are just noise makers.

 

I second this ^^ is this worth it? I’d love to know real world gains 1mpg isn’t anything to write home about however better throttle response and slight hp/tq gains are money.

I used to be all about CAI and wet filters but as I got more knowledgeable I came to the realization that OEM air box is already a true cold air intake and that wet filters are a huge no-no hence why people are losing MAF sensors. Dry Filters only. Compressed air for cleaning the filter is your best friend.

I think what I like about the Stillen is the front air ram. That’s completely different than any other CAI and it provides a secondary pathway for the truck to get more air through.

 

Doubt it on NA setups. Possibly at the high end of RPM.

The stock box is fine for NA applications and isn't a restriction.
For S/C setups this able to drop down IATs quicker than without.
Rule of thumb is 1% HP gains per 10 degrees of temp drop so on NA setups you'll probably see 3HP at best; doubt you'll see more than 10 degree shifts.
