Looking for a GPS Tracker

I am looking to install a GPS tracker that also reports if the truck is not moving.

Any recommendations?

 

Watching to see what’s recommended. Most GPS trackers I’ve seen require a monthly subscription. APRS is an option that may or may not work in your area, no monthly fees, but is generally less refined.

 

How about a Apple Air Tag? Can hide it anywhere with no wiring, the battery lasts about 1 year.

 

That’s what I use, have 1 in each car (cheap LoJack) and put other ones in bags when traveling. They make them for android phones also. Pretty cheap on Amazon.

Batteries are easy to change also.

yes, so long as an iPhone/ipad comes within a close proximity for it to use the underlying mesh Bluetooth to send an update from the air tag to your phone (that’s how I understand it working).

 

And until it pings again it’ll show last known location. It’s usually pretty quick to update.

 

I just use the Toyota app. It tells me exactly where my truck is, what is opened or closed (doors/hood), and how fast it is being driven. All in real time.

I have used it various times for the exact reasons listed above especially when my wife is driving it…lol.

Can other iphones track these air tags? I've never really understood how they work.

but if you are in a vehicle with one in it ,it will tell you if an AirTag is tracking you

 

Assuming you have an iPhone

an android will not notify you of an AirTag

 

Wrong ... Android will let you know AirTag is tracking you and even make it beep.

Yup, if wife (iphone) isn't riding with me (android) when we take out the ebikes (airtags) I get a notification within an hour.

 

Thanks guys. What kind of app/install would I need for this to work on my Android? My phone is a dinosaur, maybe it is not compatible, I wonder.

 

Trak4 is web based and no app. For Android you need Galaxy Smart Tag2 device that works with Smart Things app. Airtags do not work with android.
